I'll stick with an iPhone lesser than the 7 as long as I can. But today Apple just closed off any upgrade route for this early iPhone adopter.

You realize that people said the exact same things about floppy disks and cd drives right?

Eventually other phone makers will remove it as well now that Apple has so you may be out of luck for any future upgrades ever.

On the contrary, this issue is the very essence of the problem with the iPhone 7. It take courage (not the apple type) to stand up for your beliefs and point out the flaws.

Ohhh.. we are all so impressed by your "courage". Stick with your iPhone 2G, switch to Android, don't use smartphones at all.. No one cares, honestly.

The market will determine whether Apple made the right move by dropping the 100 year old jack. My money is that Apple has done right thing, as they have throughout their recent history.

Or not. I remember the iPod Shuffle fiasco removing the screen. That was a silly product and other manufacturers said the same and didn't follow Apple down that path.

I'm simply wondering what was gained in exchange for the inconvenience of messing with the dongle. But as long as they are shipping one in the box at no extra charge, I can tolerate it.

No headphone jack. No sale.

Apple will be heart broken;)

I've just fired off an email to tcook@apple.com pointing out how courageous Apple has been and that they should be less courageous and return the jack to its rightful place for the post-phone 7 generation in 2017. Hopefully others will do the same.

Not going to happen.

This isn't about me. It's about what is right for the smartphone industry. Apple have just committed a faux pas which they might not recover from. Steve would never have signed off on this.

You are being delusional now. "It's about what is right for the smartphone industry" Seriously? what is so great about the standard headphone jack? you really don't think there is any possibility that it can be improved upon?

Leave steve alone you don't have any clue what he would signed off on.

...and if that wasn't bad enough, what exactly did we gain here?

I guess if I were an avid swimmer or frequently dropped my iPhone in a toilet I'd be mildly interested. This release is so bad the big buzz is that it's now available in two shades of Black.

Holy shark-jump, Batman.

BJ

You gained a lesson in highly deceitful marketing techniques. Masters! The photos that were allegedly shot with a 7 were so processed that ...

Yay, we have a chief whiner adding to the chorus.

Boltjames - according to your "predictions" which you kept insisting on for many months.. Apple would never drop the jack. Similar to how they were never upgrading rMB to Skylake.

Aren't you tired of being constantly proven wrong about things? :)

Already a few Androids out there without it, I think some Motorolas.

This entire "water resistant" thing is designed so Apple can reduce returns and increase profits.
Not destroying your phone to the point you have to return it seems like a better thing for the consumer than Apple. And besides, there's plenty of money to be made repairing water-damaged iPhones past the return period.
This iPhone is a gussied-up 6, nothing to see here. Oh, unless you're a fan of black. Because, after all, we need two shades to choose from.
I am a fan of black TBH, but regardless, the internals are impressive. The only part I was disappointed about is the screen resolution. Had they upped it so the Plus at least runs at its native resolution, that might've pushed me over the edge on an upgrade.

I don't do that. I'll just not buy. My money (or lack of it) means more than an email. At the end of the day, if enough people feel this way, great. If not, I get to deal. I'm just trying to be a realist here.

If people like you got your way, my iphone would include a floppy disk drive, a hard disk drive, a cd drive and a black berry type keyboard. xD

Move on with the times, sheesh.

My predictions are what is best for consumers, that's my flaw.

See, I actually thought Apple still cared about us. Won't make that mistake again.

I didn't mind the price so much as the aesthetic. I think they look downright garish.

It's going to be fun to watch people look this stupid.

In both ears.

You are hilarious.

No, your flaws are that (a) you are misguided, and (b) you treat your opinions as facts.
