so does this mean we'll eventually be able to flash the xfx 5870 with an efi compatible ROM?

also, will said ROM likely work with efi32? is there any way to write a custom ROM for efi32?

i could make excuses about being a noob at this, but i successfully flashed a 4870 with your instructions about a year and a half ago. soooo, i'm just asking annoying questions at this point :p
 
HI guys really sorry if this a stupid question, but does this mean if you crack this I could buy a 5870 ATI card and flash it to run in my 2009 Mac Pro ?

hi guys,
sorry for fooling around, but i need your advice :)

My machine is:

Intel i5 Quad
ATI 5700
And a Gigabyte p55 board.

will this gpu kext work for me and which hackintosh version
do i need?

as i said: sorry for fooling around, just a noob in this case :)

tested with ATI 5770 as the files do contain my dev id,


ATI5000Controller.kext - Doesn't cause KP
ATIRadeonX3000VADriver.bundle - Doesn't cause KP
ATIFramebuffer.kext ATISupport.kext - Causes KP
ATIRadeonX3000.kext - Cause KP
ATIRadeonX3000GA.plugin - Doesn't cause KP
ATIRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle - Doesn't cause KP

Will keep trying to i get the desktop to load with or without 3d extensions :p

files cause panic but it does try to load the slot, have tried a few FB's, will continue to test, i'm changing the ATY_Init to match my card, installing kexts and repairing makes system panic so i will continue to fool around, thanks for the news i have been waiting for this over a month now :D

The question isn't that stupid.
Flashing may be possible when Apple provides a Mac edition of said card, which could come soon since the drivers are present in the most recent OS X version.

I can help you test kext in hackintosh running a fresh install of 10.6.4 on my gigabyte ud5 motherboard.. fully working but with no video :) 5870 from sapphire.. willing to risk it :) keep up the good work.. netkas you;re more popular than Obama :)

I'm guessing it's the iMac who's getting 5000 series cards first
 
Can install ATI5000Controller kext, ATIFramebuffer without KP.
The 3000GA, GL and VA install fine.

ATIRadeonX3000.kext KP's
ATISupport.kext KPs
 
I get kernel panic immediately after installing kexts from first post, before I had a chance to install ati_init. Then got kernel panic on boot. (hackintosh with 5870)

I get the exact same thing when installing the kexts.. i don't even get to install ati_init because of kp. tried to install the 5000 kext,ATIFramebuffer an the init they've installed fine but when rebooting kp
 
Heyyo,

Dang, I get KP with "ATIRadeonX3000.kext" on my ATi Mobility Radeon 5650.

If I try and boot with aty_int latest the one with the typo fix? it boots, but I get a very distorted screen and I can't make out anything, lol. I know it boots fine cause I can hear the sound and use the power button and enter key to shut down. :p

So my question is... is there a way to get an ioreg dump without the new ATi kext's installed? from what I see in verbose boot aty_int fails to get the dump. Cause I can boot without any new kext's other than the latest aty_int.kext
 
carbondry, dont install x3000 kext just yet, need to figure out framebuffer first.

first test would be - with aty_init and without these new kexts

then, if 5870 card was identified by system as 5870 card - kinstall ati5000ctrl, atisupport and atiframebuffer.
 
Just want to point out that one of the kexts was causing a AppleIntelCpuPowermanagement timeout (hangs) on boot. Don't know if that helps.

I removed all kexts with linux, will repair on mac os x and will try again with the order you suggested
 
YES!!!!! Detected my 5870 in system profiler!!!

I removed all custom kexts. I compeltey cleaned up the kexts folder with kext utility, and then re-installed aty-init.kext and restarted. I managed to boot this time with no kernel panic. And now the 5870 is detected.

Of course, Im still getting nowhere because im still in vesa.

Now onto the other kexts.
 
now install framebuffer files

and we will be trying all new fbs one by one.

first is already in aty_init
 
I'm not sure if I understand you completely.

Do you want me to install

1. ati5000ctrl, atisupport and atiframebuffer

or

2. just atiframebuffer?

If 1) , do I install them all in one go?
 
Something is not right here.

I installed only 5000controller before I read your last message. It had an 'error detecting bios signature' on verbose boot and then hangs.

I removed both 5000controller and aty_init, and started from scratch with JUST aty_init.

Now even though I have just aty_init I am still booting with error detecting bios signature and then hangs. This is odd becuase I was booting fine before and detecting the graphics card. Please can you help.
