Just curious - when it rains in anyone's hometown, does it stink up the entire community? I'm at school at University of Delaware and it seems that when ever it rains, the outside smells like the sewage system overflowed.

not here at all, but if you go about half a mile east from where i live it starts to smell like fish. since the harbor is right there and it is pretty big fishing port in MA. But i for some reason am not bothered by that smell at all.

I'm not at all bothered by the rain. We are still about 2" behind on rain for the year here in Boston. Rain also brings a nice fresh smell in the air. I agree eva01, I like the smell of the ocean. At times I can enjoy the smell where I live.

Rain and fog is the best ! Love it.

Here is Syracuse we are the cloudiest city in the Northeast, its been raining for a week and the temperature has fallen.... I can't wait till we get a foot of snow on Halloween. Its gonna be fun with all this rain and snow, one thing I gotta get used to being away from home. Hopefully I can survive December, January, and February:)

Is it normal for you to have snow on Halloween? I love snow, but usually not till after Thanksgiving. It has been cloudy, cool, and drizzle or rain all week. Suppose to last until Saturday.

we're going on a week of rain here in nj. it's getting a bit depressing. i feel bad for people around since i tend to be snappy when it rains for so long. too bad the weather channel can't figure out when we're going to see the sun again :(

A dubious record

October 2005 is on target to become the wettest ever for NYC since modern weather recordkeeping began.

Now I know why people in Seattle get depressed. ;)

Seriously, this weather is the suck. Where's my cloudless, crisp blue skies that make a nice contrast against the autumn colors? Where's my cool autumn breeze?

It just doesn't feel like autumn ever arrived.

For some of us, Connecticut autumn IS our winter ;) So we feel like we've missed fall. But it's lovely on the West Coast at the moment, so I can't relate to applekid.

I love the rain, the gray gloomy clouds and the feeling it all gives. Especially with a thunderstorm, which is like the cherry on top!

I wish it were raining here in los angeles, it's been soooo hot lately, and I hate heat. I prefer chills. :)

llama

p.s: i love rain, fog and storms!

I just left London where it was raining and arrived in Newark, NJ where the pilot welcomed us by saying, "welcome to Newark. It's really just disgusting weather outside, so I hope none of you have to drive too far."

And I'm jetlagged.

I spent ten years in Syracuse, and I think was there for 4 or 5 of the 10 snowiest years on record. I still visit several times a year.

My recollection is that Syracuse is either the cloudiest city in the US or the one with the most hours of precipitation during the year... but either way, it's one damn depressing place to be. ;) At least you've got an Apple Store there... albeit a mini.

I don't mind the rain!

AND I LOVE LOVE some SNOW!!! I cannot wait for it snow, not that I get a lot from where I am located but at least I am on the email list from Mammoth Mountain in Cali---I get emailed the weather snow report every morning! And I actually get enjoyment out of reading it and dreaming I was there!! One day I will be!! :)

Heh.. fog, I do know thee well. My school is in a bit of a ditch right behind the oakland hills, so the fog tends to hang over us considerably longer than most places. It's kind of amusing coming through the Caldecott Tunnel and seeing sun and clear skies right up to school, at which point you hit a wall of fog...

The last week and a half in Central Europe has been sunny and dry until last night when it started to rain. I actually don't mind as Krakow's air quality isn't the best and the rain cleared away a lot of the smog.

Diddums.....

Don't ever complain to an Aussie about getting too much rain...

There are kids (4 - 5 year olds) out west who have never seen rain - ever.

There are towns here at the moment with NO water at all, they are getting their supplies trucked in every week. I'm not affected - I live on the coast - but all our dams are in the mountains to my west which are affected so eventually it's going to get dire. There's a good chance of yet another El Niño event this year so it's just going to get drier and drier and drier.

This of course means that summer is going to burn - I HATE bushfires sooo much!! They're scary, fast, the smoke makes it hard to breathe and they just plain suck.

And I got sunburnt last week too.... After 2 years of winter my arms are slowly turning white again from their previous translucent pale blue. :D

On my way home the other night, I conclusively found out my new boots (which I waterproofed with hiking stuff) aren't waterproof. :( Also, my coat, t-shirt, jeans, socks and underwear are pretty much lacking in that department also. :(

It was crazy, because my college is on top of a hill, and the further down the hill I got, the roads just turned into rivers, and the water was 6-8 inches deep in places. Not that that made drivers slow down even slightly though - "I may be soaked, but being re-soaked to the knees doesn't make me happy, ok?".

It's funny how many people in RI claim to hate snow. I suppose it's accurate though, most of them can't drive for **** in it either.

Apparently the Farmer's Almanac ranked Syracuse and my old hometown Binghamton, NY as the 5th and 6th worst cities in the US, weather-wise:

5-6 Syracuse and Binghamton, New York—Similarly, two cities in New York State ran very close to each other in terms of cloud cover and precipitation. Syracuse ranks fourth among the rainiest cities in the U.S. (171 days); Binghamton came in tenth (162 days). Binghamton is among the top ten cloudiest cities (212 cloudy days annually), while Syracuse ranks fourth among the snowiest cities, with 111.6 inches annually. The climates of both of these cities are representative of the humid northeastern United States. Being adjacent to the so-called St. Lawrence Valley storm track and also subject to cold air masses approaching from the west and north, these cities must continually endure unsettled weather patterns.

Found that at http://lwxi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2987&postcount=98 so can't vouch for accuracy, but it sounds about right.

I live in the Boston area now, so I haven't really improved my weather situation. And the two years in Michigan weren't much better. :p
