I got mine yesterday... 16GB.. ;)

Well, I'll give it a 9.5... why?

I think this is the greatest phone that I ever had. I'm still playing with it and getting along with all it's features. I think the web browser is the best one from all the other phones out there. Maps works great... I work as a photographer and this phone is perfect to show my portfolio to my clients. Emails work super nice... no complains there. The only thing I don't like is the back cover... is plastic, not like the first iphone with the aluminum cover... overall I say 9.5

Because theres always more room for improvement:apple:

VERY Happy

I have to say i am so pleased with my 16GB Black 3G iPhone. It is so great and i dont think i could possibly live with out it now i have had a taste of it. I got mine at the beginning of august as i waited so i could easily get it.

I have to say one of the greatest things about it is they way it seamlessly links up with my macbook - I Love it! I have to say this is one of the things i love about all of Apples products (even though i dont have many! - i want them tho!)

I have to say the thing that amazes ,me apart from one time (which i will easily forget), I have NEVER had a problem. and even if it did crash once a month i would find it easy enough to plug it in as everything is backed up. My little sister could so it - heck a monkey could do it (maybe not!)

My favorite thing about my phone is the App Store. I love it. and now after months i have finally resisted and started buying apps not to many though as i am only a student. I think the fact you can get these almost PSP games for £0.59 is amazing.

However. To make it the best phone on the market by miles (i still do) it needs:
-5MP Camera and Flash
-32GB or 64GB Memory
-MMS
-Cut and Paste

I do however not find the camera bad even when i bring it up on my mac it never becomes pixilated a flash would, i feel, would make a big difference to quality. Overall a 9/10

never had a blackberry so i will rate the 3g 9.5 its a great phone but if next version they dont do major improvement i will rate it less.

What is the hole for on the lower front part of the phone used for?

9.5. It's a great phone, definitely the best phone I have owned, and I just know it's going to get better and better. It does everything I NEED it to do but there's still a few things that I WANT it to do that I'm sure will come eventually in software updates.

experience rating 10

phone rating is more like 8 because of the missing features (i know, i know, they weren't there when i bought it. i decided i could live without them and i put up with the lack of mms, contact forwarding via sms, more sms functionality like forward/delete single messages. theres no harm in wanting them back though.)

despite missing a few things, this phone has completely changed how i use phones and what features i'll be looking for from future phones. a mobile/cell used to be about taking calls and sending texts. thanks to the iphone its so much more. there's no way i could downgrade now.

9.5

occasional black screen of death, have to reset it. and the occasional SMS window not bringing up keyboard, jus exit and re enter fixes that.

Service:

8: Not sure what you mean by this one, but if you mean AT&T Customer Service, I have never really had many issues with them. A few billing issues but other than that, solid I guess.

....
etc.
....

If Emails are priority #1, then I would not get an iPhone under any circumstances. I am sure some Apple Fan Boys will boo me, and that is fine, but for Emails, iPhone still does not touch a Blackberry.

However, if basically everything else is more important to you, then the iPhone is for you for sure. Better Music, better Web Surfing, better Apps available and better overall Entertainment value.

What this person said! Best overall review I've ever seen, maybe because it says everything I would. ;)

Service: 2
Coming from Verizon, AT&T's service is an abomination. The number of dropped calls is ridiculously high, even among my friends who do not have iPhones.

Web: 9.9
Sometimes I like surfing the net better on my iPhone than I do on my Mac. The only thing missing is Flash, but I don't really miss it.

Email: 9
This goes to 10 with copy-and-paste.

Text: 9
I love seeing text messages as an iChat-esque thread. I know a lot of people want MMS, but I really could not care less about it.

Camera: 7
The iPhone 3G takes really good pictures...in bright light when the subject isn't moving. Since I don't rely on my phone to preserve all my memories, a so-so camera is fine with me. I gets the job done.

Phone Calls: 6
This number is really only as low as it is because of the service. When the calls aren't getting dropped, they sound loud and clear.

Overall: 9
I know the numbers don't average out to a 9, but I love the iPhone that much. I hate AT&T but it doesn't ruin the iPhone for me, especially since I surf the web, listen to music and text message as often as I talk.

The exact same phone with Verizon's service is an 11. As long as VW doesn't try to add any of their horrible software when they finally do get the iPhone, I will most likely be switching back, even though it will be more expensive.

A 9 for email?

Really?

Have you ever owned a Blackberry?

I am surprised anyone would give the email a 9 unless they are just Apple Fans trying to be generous.

Well my experience has been about a 9 up until I became the proud owner of a 2.2 Ibrick ...lol:(

I would give the iPhone a 7 out of 10.

I would give every other smart-phone I've ever used a 4 or 5 out of 10.

Those are nearly the same as the scores I would give. 7 to 8.

Once upon a time, PalmOS devices used to rank up there in the 7 to 8 range with their PIM ease-of-use and open SDK, but they haven't kept up with the technology for way too long.

No I have never owned a Blackberry. I am an Apple "fan" but that's also my honest opinion. Email works flawlessly on my iPhone and I can do everything I need to with it (short of copy/paste). What exactly is the problem?

Lack of true Push email for personal users without having to pay for a substandard Email experience (Especially on the Web.)

So, yes, I would say the email "works."

It could just be so much better.

But I understand Apple had to make a dime, hence, the birth of MobileMe.

I easily give my iPhone 3G a 9.75. As far as service goes, I have no complanits. In fact, I get better reception in areas around town on 3G with my iPhone than I ever did on Verizon. As far as copy/paste & mms, I could really care less. If you didn't know about they weren't features before you bought it or within the first 30 days, you fail. The UI is simply the best mobile OS in existence. There has been some bugs with 2.0, but they got straightened out pretty quickly, and I feel like my 3G is as stable as my first gen was on 1.1.4. Mobile Safari completely owns every other mobile browser. I'm a huge fan of Johnathon Ives' designs, and the iPhone is high on the list.

And as far as email goes, I've never understood my people talk trash about the iPhone's Mail.app. It works seemlesly with my Exchange, .me, gmail, and yahoo accounts. I am completely blown away with how well the iPhone works with my Exchange and MobileMe accounts. It's one of my favorite features. So I really don't get why so many haters think BB's are better at email. My 3G is an email machine.

Easily the best mobile device on the market, IMO. Nothing else combines a music player, PDA, gaming device, & camera as well as the iPhone does. There isn't anything else even close.

6.5

Why? First phone had a screwed up accelerometer, second had a crooked LCD, 3 stuck pixels and a light leek. 3rd seems to be the charm, but now I'm having problems receiving calls on 3G, a family member has started having the same problem. And i miss my phone alerting me when i had email every two hours instead of doing it manually. I guess Apple still can't fix this issue?

It definitely beats my ATT Tilt in the cosmetic aspect and screen size. Though the tilt can still DO more.

I think Push email is overrated. I have it through MobileMe, but I also have regular fetch (set to 5 min) through a Gmail account. I can't think of a single time I've needed an email so badly on my iPhone that I couldn't wait 5 minutes for it.

That being said, Apple never advertised push email as a feature of the iPhone, only as a feature of MobileMe. To give the iPhone's email program a lower grade because it doesn't magically force Gmail to push or make MobileMe free is a little silly, don't you think?

Why? If the phone doesn't do everything they wish for it is perfectly legitimate to assign a lower score. The phone can obviously do Push Mail, Apple just wishes to sell an additional service to get the feature.

I just got mine as well. A solid 9 would be 10 if the battery life were better with all the features turned on.
