Hi guys,

I follow the threads where all of us can share our experiences with ordering and receiving new iPhone SE's and I have noticed that some of you had mentioned the rattling power button.

Is this really a problem with the SE? How was the power button on the 5S?

My 5S was fine, my SE has a rattle. If the phone is moved too much when shooting video it picks it up. Arranged a return, and going to reorder....obviously I now have a wait, but I am in no hurry.

Oh no. I am sorry you have this issue. I was tempted to order the SE, but decided to wait and see what early adopters would say. I would certainly find this rattle quite annoying...

Let's hope that only a small percentage of units is affected by this issue.

It's just one of those things. I seem to be a bit unlucky with Apple stuff of late. My 2015 Macbook pro, already has had to have a new display and logic board

Opinions of 5 and 5S owners seem to be divided on this one: some say they have this issue, others have never heard about it and their power buttons don't make any sound. The 6/6S does not have this.

It is certainly a pity that you get a rattling phone when you order a new SE. Imagine making a video while moving and you have this strange noise in it. Definitely, a no-go for me!

What's wrong with Apple? Don't they learn from their own mistakes?

My 6S Plus didn't have a rattle, but SE and 5S definitely do/did but like I said, the apple leather case stops it happening and I ALWAYS use apple leather cases.

Not exactly a "fix" but it's good enough for me.

I am glad that it works for you, but I was planning to use my SE without a case (just a leather pouch) and this rattle would definitely be an issue for me. Is this Apple's strategy to make us buy their leather cases?

Perfectly understandable, especially if you did video as well (another thing I don't use on my phone, I do take lots of photos though). It is definitely an issue, thought they may have fixed it since the 5S as they did with the newer phones.

I don't remember my 5 power button rattling

My iPhone 5 from early 2013 had a rattling power button, but it never bothered me.

The refurb replacement iPhone 5 I received in January 2016 (original phone's battery was swelling up and the Genius said they'd do a swap for cost of replacement battery) also has a slight rattle in the power button.

It's not an issue for me.

I have held an iPhone 5 in my hands that did not rattle at all. It seems that Apple had fixed this problem in their 6/6S series and reintroduced it in the SE. What a shame.

I had both the 5 and the 5S and I believe both rattled a bit. It's really not that noticeable unless you're holding the phone up to your ear listening for it, though, and it did not impact performance whatsoever. I consider it a non-issue.

Agreed about it being a non issue. Never had a situation where it came up and of course it doesn't impact performance. This thread kind of reminds me of similar ones previously about the 6s home button 'click' noise being an emergency for some

Of course OCDers might plan on doing this all day...

I noticed it straight away, i guess its just another feature of the classic design they've decided to carry over.

BTW, not bothered at all about it!

It's a metal button against a metal chassis. It's a design choice. Exchanges will only bring frustration.

The buttons on my 6 rattle too. I also have a 6S that does not, I believe due to the added rubber seals.

Of the two iPhone 5 models that i've had, both had the same little rattle in the top corner. Isn't the power button in my situation. Like you, I have to waft it like a fan right next to my ear to hear it.

I can't think of any normal circumstance that I would ever have to perform that action to accidentally hear it. :p

I actually took my 5S back for rattle around lock button. However, I was told it is the camera lens that makes the noise. And it is normal.

It is the camera, and it is normal. Pretty much all 5S' did this too.
While shaking the camera does make a noise due to the autofocus, I'm pretty sure the original poster is actually mentioning the power button itself.

That said, I see this as a non-problem, especially with a case on. In fact, dare I say it, the noise can possibly make the iPhone feel more premium because it assures you're holding on to metal, not plastic.
