It seems some of you are not concerned about this "issue", but it is nevertheless a problem to others. I know how a camera lens rattles in an iPhone and can distinguish this rattle from the rattle of the lock button. If you think you are smarter than the rest, lay your finger on top of the lock button, shake your phone and the rattle will mysteriously disappear. Do you still think the camera lens was making this noise?

The iPhone 6S feels more premium than the rattling 5S because it is sturdy and well-built. I do not want to have this annoying noise in my videos, but most of you can probably live with it.

If you're shaking your phone so much that you hear the home lock button, you won't even be able to tell what's going on in the video to begin with :p

Non-issue really, making mountains out of molehills imo.

I actually did that to convince the Genius it is the lock button. Like you said, if I put my finger on lock button, the rattle disappeared. But I was told by these Geniuses that it the camera lens...

However, I wouldn't rule out the fact that it could be faulty lock button. If you have chance, visit an Apple Store to examine whether other SE's have this rattle.

Opinions of 5 and 5S owners seem to be divided on this one: some say they have this issue, others have never heard about it and their power buttons don't make any sound. The 6/6S does not have this.

It is certainly a pity that you get a rattling phone when you order a new SE. Imagine making a video while moving and you have this strange noise in it. Definitely, a no-go for me!

What's wrong with Apple? Don't they learn from their own mistakes?

Why should they? All the people would still be there, buying their phones.

Regardless of all the people saying it's a non-issue, for me it is. I am in the situation where I am in no rush for the phone, as currently have a un-rattley 5S, so don't mind waiting. FWIW, it's 100% the power button as placing ones finger on it when filming/walking stops it.

However, if my replacement exhibits the same issue then I will probably just roll with it.

...or buy a Z5 Compact :p

Yeah. It was one of the first things I realized when I opened up my SE. My old 5S also had a sleep button that rattled. I'm tempted to take it back for an exchange, but I think it will be the same as it was with the 5S...a crap shoot. It seems that the odds are pretty high that you would just get another one with the same thing.

Anyone with an SE yet that has no play in the sleep button?

Just to make sure we are on the same line here: we are talking about the lock button (used to switch on/off your iPhone) that rattles and not the home button.

I do think you will be waiting for a different phone then. Lock button or camera, 95% (made up statistic) of iPhone 5S' do this. I do not think I owned or have used one that did not.

I'm a little concerned with the QC on the new SEs now. Just realized that mine has a scratch on the screen straight out of the box, and it has the loose sleep button.

Guess any product will have some defect rate. It's just aggravating to have to deal with it.

Yes, simply a typo (meant lock/power button)... but either example works for my previous post above

That's sad, I am sorry to hear that. I know how it feels when you discover this kind of flaw in your new Apple device: I had to exchange some of them several times in the past. Just contact Apple and they will be happy to send you a replacement. Their customer service is the reason why we all love Apple.

Don't you have to shake the phone to hear the rattle? Are you going to be shaking the phone while recording videos?

Often, I walk while shooting a video and I am pretty sure I am not the only one doing that. As someone has indicated here, it might be a big issue as you will hear this rattling sound in the video when you play it.

What could be a solution is to hold the lock button (but not to press it) when you make a video. But we shouldn't have to do it: I had never needed to hold the lock button while filming with the iPhone 6 or 4S.

It's slightly audible when you just rotate the phone to landscape. It's not horrendous, but it's definitely there. Then again, I get way too caught up in the detail of things. I don't think it should do it, but it's not a massive deal to me.

No I agree, I just don't think that you are going to hear it on a filmed video. But hope someone films a video and shows how you can hear it, if you can its a big issue.

I can only refer to a sample size of 2, my 5 and 5S, and they were both silent.

Serious talk now, I am not one of these people who finds fault for no reason. Never returned a phone/laptop before, apart from for repairs, but this was very noticeable taking it out the box. As I say, if the replacement is the same, then it is what it is and I will just keep it. If it's better, then I gambled and won.

I hope you luck out. I've had it happen 2/2 times. Now. Let us know what happens with your replacement.

That definitely doesn't seem normal. I actually have to shake the phone to hear it. I would probably go crazy if I could hear it with normal usage.

I have also had an iPhone 5 that does not have a rattling lock button.

Of course, I am also not looking for issues and could not wait to order an iPhone SE, but now I am rather reluctant.

Guys, if some of you have these rattling buttons, could you make a video while shaking your phone and post it here? It would be great if we could analyse how severe this issue is. Thanks in advance!

Granted I was turning the phone from portrait to landscape over and over, but I wasn't shaking it. You can hear the rattle.

Thanks a lot! I can clearly hear this rattling sound and you weren't even shaking your phone hard.

Hmmm, I guess in the end everyone has to decide for himself/herself whether this rattle is acceptable or not. I just wish the SE's lock button was as silent as the 6S's.

Thank you, PaladinGuy!

You're welcome. Whether or not you would really hear it as much with one or two turns of the phone. I don't know. As I said, this is slightly exaggerated, but not by a ton.
