People without the SE.People proactively looking for issues.. Nothing new here folks
I do not want to have this annoying noise in my videos, but most of you can probably live with it.
lay your finger on top of the lock button, shake your phone and the rattle will mysteriously disappear.
Opinions of 5 and 5S owners seem to be divided on this one: some say they have this issue, others have never heard about it and their power buttons don't make any sound. The 6/6S does not have this.
It is certainly a pity that you get a rattling phone when you order a new SE. Imagine making a video while moving and you have this strange noise in it. Definitely, a no-go for me!
What's wrong with Apple? Don't they learn from their own mistakes?
If you're shaking your phone so much that you hear the home button, you won't even be able to tell what's going on in the video to begin with
Non-issue really, making mountains out of molehills imo.
Regardless of all the people saying it's a non-issue, for me it is. I am in the situation where I am in no rush for the phone, as currently have a un-rattley 5S, so don't mind waiting. FWIW, it's 100% the power button as placing ones finger on it when filming/walking stops it.
However, if my replacement exhibits the same issue then I will probably just roll with it.
...or buy a Z5 Compact![]()
Just to make sure we are on the same line here: we are talking about the lock button (used to switch on/off your iPhone) that rattles and not the home button.
I'm a little concerned with the QC on the new SEs now. Just realized that mine has a scratch on the screen straight out of the box, and it has the loose sleep button.
Guess any product will have some defect rate. It's just aggravating to have to deal with it.
It seems some of you are not concerned about this "issue", but it is nevertheless a problem to others. I know how a camera lens rattles in an iPhone and can distinguish this rattle from the rattle of the lock button. If you think you are smarter than the rest, lay your finger on top of the lock button, shake your phone and the rattle will mysteriously disappear. Do you still think the camera lens was making this noise?
The iPhone 6S feels more premium than the rattling 5S because it is sturdy and well-built. I do not want to have this annoying noise in my videos, but most of you can probably live with it.
Don't you have to shake the phone to hear the rattle? Are you going to be shaking the phone while recording videos?
Often, I walk while shooting a video and I am pretty sure I am not the only one doing that. As someone has indicated here, it might be a big issue as you will hear this rattling sound in the video when you play it.
What could be a solution is to hold the lock button (but not to press it) when you make a video. But we shouldn't have to do it: I had never needed to hold the lock button while filming with the iPhone 6 or 4S.
I do think you will be waiting for a different phone then. Lock button or camera, 95% (made up statistic) of iPhone 5S' do this. I do not think I owned or have used one that did not.
I can only refer to a sample size of 2, my 5 and 5S, and they were both silent.
Serious talk now, I am not one of these people who finds fault for no reason. Never returned a phone/laptop before, apart from for repairs, but this was very noticeable taking it out the box. As I say, if the replacement is the same, then it is what it is and I will just keep it. If it's better, then I gambled and won.
Granted I was turning the phone from portrait to landscape over and over, but I wasn't shaking it. You can hear the rattle.
