A user in the previous posts said that Steermouse doesn't give you access to 2 of the 7 buttons ("unfortunely I can't use buttons 6 and 7).
So I asked if "USB Overdrive" gives better results.

ps: nice SSDs ;)

Well, buttons 6&7 are very hard to use anyways, but I'd rather have complete control over some rather than none.

Yes they are nice SSDs! Thank you :)

I see, but I think that it's not so uncomfortable to open VMware (or even boot with Windows) every now and then to configure the mouse, once I configured it usually I don't use the configuration center anymore, so it would be ok for me.

However, I'm starting to rethink about this mouse...not for the mouse itself but for bluetooth mice...right now I'm in a living hell becouse of Logitech v470 and I'm about to make a "Never BT Mice AGAIN" oath...am I wrong? Can I have the same issues with the Orochi? (unwanted disconnections, ecc.)

ps: every help is accepted for the v470, the problem is that with every machine and OS I try it (windows and OSX) it works in the beginning but the first time it enters Sleep Mode it stops working forever, except for random clicks (only clicks, not movement tracking) that work and are transmitted to the computer :(

I like this mouse but how it handles in bluetooth mode?

I had bad experience with logitech v470, sleep all the time after a few seconds of unuse.

I'm playing around with the Macally BTmouse right now, it feels and works pretty nice.

the razer orochi is trash literally i got rid of it, sharp angles and would not sync plus it felt horrible compared to my logitech performance mouse mx

I can't seem to find this in stock anywhere =( Said probably have to check back toward the end of the month, early next month for some. Anyone selling theirs? haha

Oh yeah I have been using mine since they came out and I am glad I got it. All of the features work fine in OSX, but I had to configure it in a windows virtualization first. The settings remain the same from there on out doesn't matter what comp you use it on. It is nice and small, yet still oddly ergonomic. Excellent buy imo, GL finding one!

Razer Orochi

I have bought an Orochi 2 days ago. It took me couple of days to find the driver for mac, and steermouse. It's great. A bit rough at the initial connection, however, the rest is pretty smooth and cool. The signal is very strong, and i haven't got any problems working wirelessly. It's working best with steermouse, allow me to config 2 buttons on the left side (the 2 on the right sides are dead, can not be used on MAC) I'm very happy with it. Recommend for everyone.

I've been doing some research on this mouse to compliment my (soon to be) 17" uMBP and apple bluetooth keyboard. This looks like a winner. I doubt I will ever use it while plugged in since I am right handed, and since all the ports on the MBP are on the left side it will be difficult to make that possible....especially with only a 3 ft cord, and I won't have to deal with that annoying light. When plugged into USB a light appears, and when in wireless mode it turns off to save battery. I will mainly use it for everyday use, photoshop / illustrator work, and some gaming here and there. I am glad to see bluetooth is making a good turn in regards to mice and response times. It looks great for traveling, obviously since its a laptop mouse! Style of it looks great, and will look forward to purchasing it in the coming weeks.

If this thread is still on the main page when I get it I will definitely post my thoughts on it.

The thing about Razer is that their products tend to have more random issues than most. My DeathAdder's scroll wheel was loose (first Razer so I thought it was normal...especially since one of the Microsoft or Logitech mice had a super fast wheel), Barracuda microphone terrible and speakers flat, Mamba dying, light shot on Diamondback 3G.

Don't get me wrong, there's a reason why I have so many Razer products. When you get a good one then it's quality is really good.

So your experience with Orochi will differ, but all in all, the tracking speed is better and more accurate than most bluetooth mice, and while there is a slight latency, it's only noticeable in FPS games...and that's assuming you've used it in USB mode before to compare the difference.

Orochi

I just got my orochi in the mail and I can't stand the thing. It works great when it's plugged in, but that isn't what I bought it for. The thing puts itself to sleep seriously about 1.5 seconds after I stop using it. Then when I move again it jumps half way across the screen before moving smoothly again. So surfing the web is a pain in the rear because I have to shake it every time I want to move from click to click. The thing is garbage for wireless use. Maybe it's just a firmware update to make it stay awake a little longer, but until then it's back to the trackpad. If anyone knows how I can fix this very annoying problem please speak up.

Just got mine, having the same issue ...

well isn't that something.....I was looking to get it too.

Did you install the driver for it? Here's the link for the driver

Let me know how that works for you, I must know so I know whether or not to get it

Yes, I have it and the issue is still occurring. That being said, when it's working, it's awesome ... for a notebook mouse, it feels amazing in the hand, scrolling is nice, accuracy is amazing ... but I'm using it in wired mode because I can't deal with the stuttering.

Awaiting a response from Razer, but honestly, at this point I cannot recommend it. Wishing I'd saved myself the trouble and gotten the Anywhere Mouse MX.

I heard someone say you should make the initial setup in Windows, so if you have access to a windows machine, you should setup there.

The only gripe I have with the uMBP and this mouse, is I am right handed, and all the ports are on the left side and a 3ft cord will not cut it.

Ahhh the trials and tribulations of finding a good bluetooth mouse.

ALSO: I googled that Anywhere Mouse MX and looks pretty cool! I don't know about that extra .3 of an inch sticking out, but I guess it can easily be taken out and it's not like a major setback or anything....because it's not sticking out 3 inches

You could try the Kensington Slimblade Trackball Mouse. I had it for two weeks and experienced no lag, but I didn't like the profile or the noise that the trackball made so I returned it.

Source on the Windows thing?

So the Razer Orochi turns out to be a bit sh*t. And surprising to see Razer hasn't addressed the downfall of the earlier Razer Pro Click Mobile Mouse in this new and far more expensive edition.

Back to the Radtech BT600 I think. Unless anyone knows of a better 5 button wireless mouse?

Razer is a joke.

I said:
I got my Orochi today. I really love it. I am not a gamer, but I wanted a
comfortable, good-looking mobile Bluetooth mouse and this fits the bill.
However, I am having a strange issue. It seems the mouse goes to "sleep"
if I do not move it for five seconds, and when it is "awakened", it skips
or ignores input for the first half second or so. Obviously, a
power-saving feature is good, but this is too short a time and I wonder if
it is normal, considering that this is considered a "gaming" mouse, and I
can't imagine that would be OK in a game.

Over three days later, I get this wonderful response.

Please try the following:

1. Try plugging the device into a different USB port on the system. If the device is plugged into a USB port on the front of the system, try a USB port in the back.
2. Disconnect all other USB devices.
3. Remove any USB Hubs. Plug the device directly into a USB on the system.
4. Try the product on another system, without using any drivers. Does the problem still occur?
5. If the problem is occurring in an application, does the problem occur outside the application directly in the operating system?

When I responded to it, I got an automated response that another new ticket had been created. Ordered Logitech Anywhere MX, returning this thing.

I believed it worked with nothing installed but I installed USB Overdrive X and changed the settings for buttons 4 and 5 and changed them from backward and forward to button 4 and button 5 so I could use them in System Prefs.

Another way to remapping buttons of Orochi under a mac is to use the built-in 'synapse' feature.

Orochi synapse is RW-available only under windows (driver). Hence:

  1. On a windows PC
  2. Download and install the orochi driver for windows
  3. Connect orochi with USB line to PC
  4. Open the driver panel after the icon shown up
  5. click 'macro' tabs, add some Mac shortcout, e.g: Win+[、Win+] for backward/forward browsing in safari.
  6. click to main tab
  7. change the button 4,5,6,7 or even 3 to DPI up/down, macro you just set up.
  8. Click apply or OK. The settings (button mapping) will be saved in the Orochi's memory which can also functionable under mac.

Just bought this mouse to do 3D modeling. Works beautifully, the tracking is very smooth and it can switch from USB to Bluetooth almost seamlessly. I'm glad that I can turn off the unnecessary lED lights.

Are you experiencing of the any issues above with sleep and bt? I just got confirmation that mine shipped and I was curious.

I just bought this mouse the other day despite of the issues i've read about it regarding using it on macs and I gotta say that it isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The minor sleep mode it goes through every 2-3 secs of it being idle in bt mode isn't as bad. It skips about an inch for a split second then its good to go. Although if you're doing something that requires you to click and pause, then it might pose a problem. i can put up w/ it and hopefully sometime there's a firmware upgrade to fix or change it to a longer idle period. As for it waking up the computer on sleep mode, it takes a tad bit longer than it would w/ your previous mouse. I've experienced some instances in a game where the mouse skips or lags w/out it being idle. Connecting to the computer once you turn on the mouse takes about 30 seconds or so for the bt to recognize and function. Other than that, it functions almost the same as my usb wireless mouse w/out the minor lag.

Wired mode is pretty much flawless. I'm sure if you'd use it for gaming such as first person shooters, you probably want to use it for fast twitch reaction. As for using all the buttons, it is possible to use and program the buttons without the use of any third party mac program. That's only if you have a pc at hand to use the windows version of the configurator. Here's a link of someone demonstrating it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShwYXNs4xJs

Overall I give this mouse a 3.8 out of 5. It's a bit too delicate and im afraid the slightest drop will break it. There's a 2 year limited manufacturer's warranty so I'm a little bit at ease.

Now that's the Orochi's been out for a while and there are new Mac drivers too, can owners speak to how effective it is in Bluetooth mode for gaming (in OSX or Bootcamp), especially games that require fast responses (FPS)?

The Bluetooth aspect is what appeals to me the most, but if lag is still an issue, I may get a wireless (USB receiver) mouse instead if those don't have lag (do they?).
