So overall this is a good or bad mouse for mac. I am coming from a $5 MS basic mouse but want speed and precision for occasional gaming. I am getting a MBP 15 so would Razer Mac drivers work or should I get some other software?

I've been reading so extensively on 3 different Razer mice including a few others by other brands, so hopefully I haven't mixed up my info: The Orochi's side buttons and other settings can only be customized in Windows, but because it has on-board memory, if you have access to Windows, you can customize it there and the settings will transfer over to OSX. In fact, if I recall correctly, the side buttons don't even work in OSX without going through Windows.

Now that's the Orochi's been out for a while and there are new Mac drivers too, can owners speak to how effective it is in Bluetooth mode for gaming (in OSX or Bootcamp), especially games that require fast responses (FPS)?

The Bluetooth aspect is what appeals to me the most, but if lag is still an issue, I may get a wireless (USB receiver) mouse instead if those don't have lag (do they?).

No way you can game with it on Bluetooth, it still goes to sleep after 2 seconds and Razer says it's not an issue and they made it to save battery

I got mine a few days ago. For gaming it would use it on wired mode but then if you want to go back to Bluetooth you will need to restart you Mac, there are issues the Razer doesnt even give a damn to fix..

Lag issues...

Well, there is something terribly wrong with the Orochi. It is wonderful, very precise, but, I use it in wired mode... there is little sense in using bt mouse with a wire all the time...

Razer released V2.00 drivers for Mac, and some people say that it fixes the issue with the lag. But for me, it didn't. Yeah, now you can adjust every setting of the mouse in Mac - you don't have to switch to Windows for this.

At the moment, I am in a very big discussion with Razer. To resolve the lag problem, they suggested installing driver v2.00 for Mac, switching to Windows, installing drivers v1.02 for Windows, and installing firmware v1.06. I followed their advice, but no luck... it still lags.

I am considering switching to something else... maybe, MX Air? But I really don't want those bt receivers...

P.S. Can anybody answer me - if a person is sane enough to buy a COMPUTER MOUSE for more than $100 - will he really care about battery life??? I don't think so... even because you can always switch it off, and attach a wire!

I bought the Orochi a couple weeks ago, despite reading, asking, worrying around about the lag issue. For my use, it's worked out perfectly in Bluetooth mode. I'm only using it for gaming, consequently the mouse is always actively in movement and the lag never has a chance to appear. But as everyone else who's used this mouse points out: after a few seconds of inactivity, when you move the mouse again, there's a slight lag/jump of the mouse cursor.

And ignore my April 21 post above. With the new Mac drivers, the Orochi is now as customizable in OSX as the Windows version. Although the button assignment option is only for single keys, so you can't assign Command+I, for example, to a button, and there's no presets for basic OSX functions like Expose, Dashboard, Spaces, etc.

Well, I've managed to talk with someone in support, sent them about four letters, then they redirected my letters to the ones in "higher support". I've talked to them about releasing the firmware and drivers that will add an ability to change the time after which the mouse goes into standby, or just to switch it off.

And here is the result:

We have heard you and our engineers are working on a fix on this. We currently do not have an ETA on this but once it is out it will be released on www.razersupport.com/downloads. Thank you for your kind feedback.

So, soon, I hope, there will be a fix on this... :D

Buy an intellimouse 1.1A

I've had the Orochi for a few weeks now. Due to the lag/jump issue, I cannot use it for gaming in bt mode. But wired it's a great portable gaming mouse. I actually like it better than the Anywhere MX.

Anyone use this one with a macbook pro 2011 with osx lion?

I bought it for this system, but I am returning because the 3 second sleep issue in BT makes it a pointless purchase. There are plenty of wired gaming mouse options out there, so why pay more for a dual-mode mouse that is useless for its intended purpose (gaming) in one of those modes?

To me it is simply not worth it; the battery saving mode is just plain silly.

I ordered it last week, I will mainly use it for CAD... we will see....

Any Autocad for Mac user here? Which mouse do you use? How did you set up the scroll wheel (= zoom function) in Lion with that painful acceleration?

€dit: Got it, works like a charm in Autocad! Mainly I use it in wired mode, because of energy saving reasons.... Bluetooth only, when I'm too lazy for pluging in the cable.... :D

So, I take it they still haven't fixed the sleep issues? I'm in the market for a good gaming BT mouse and this is one of the few options. Believe it or not, I'm still using a 7 year old Razer Diamondback that's a flawless performer. I love the feel of it, the precision is more than enough and besides my Klipsch Promedia 4.1's, this is now the oldest piece of computer I own that gets everyday use. I wish the Orochi would do half as well.

Mine's fine. I bought it knowing about the problem, I just use it wired whenever I can. Whenever I'm out with my MBP, I use it via bluetooth. Simple!

Plus, the Diamondback IS a wired mouse, so you'd definitely get some good performance from that. Wired mice will always be more precise than wireless - Well, at least for now.
