Everyone I show it to throws their iPhone and screams Steve Jobs would never have let this happen. Then they sit there dumbfounded about how hard it is to use. One guy said programming is easier.:D

New users who have never used iOS before struggle to even get the phone unlocked. Every single person who has never seen an iOS device before (mostly older folks) has instinctively swiped up at the lock screen, and then gotten confused thinking that Control Centre was all there is to iOS 7.

People who have used and/or currently own an iOS device are all either "meh", "it looks like something Google designed", or "It's very hard to look at". Almost none of them understand the interface because it's no longer intuitive- they're used to clicking on things that look like buttons, and now that we've done away with the obviousness I'm finding that a lot of people are having troubles navigating the built-in apps.

I've asked every single person who I've showed it to if they'd ever buy a device that came with iOS 7. The answer has been 100% "no". Several people commented that the entire thing looked so cheap that they'd consider looking at Android devices, because nothing about iOS 7 feels premium anymore.

But.... But.... They signed a.... Oh forget it no one cares about laws anymore why should we?

You may have forgotten some of the specifics of the NDA. Paragraph 4 states:

You agree that any Apple pre-release software and/or hardware (including related documentation and materials) provided to you as a Registered Apple Developer (“Pre-Release Materials”) . . . will be considered and referred to as “Apple Confidential Information”.

It goes on to say:

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Apple Confidential Information will not include: (i) information that is generally and legitimately available to the public through no fault or breach of yours, (ii) information that is generally made available to the public by Apple . . .

Much of iOS 7 falls under (ii), stuff that's already been made available to the public by Apple. Pretty much everything else falls under (i), stuff that's been leaked to the public by someone else, through no fault or breach of mine.

Everything that is publicly known about iOS 7, whether it was disclosed legitimately by Apple, or illicitly by someone else, is no longer considered Apple Confidential Information according to paragraph 4, sections (i) and (ii), and I am free to discuss it.

What's under NDA is not the UI, because that was shown at WWDC Keynote, it's the API's. So you shouldn't ask for help if you're developing an app that's iOS 7 only unless you're a registered dev and only on the Apple dev forums.

My friends say, when I don't tell them that I don't have an iPhone, and when I don't mention anything about iOS 7 when I don't speak to them:

" "

Thank you. Everyone showing it off is breaking the NDA they signed. If you like what apple has shown, be patient or pay to use it but remember its a beta and you aren't supposed to be showing it off...

I am blown away by how many people just don't care about the things they sign and they throw their screenshots and videos all over the internet.

I doesn't seem like Apple cares enough because otherwise they'd have to go after a huge amount of people. They probably figure it's not worth it.

Brothers girlfriend saw me using it at the dinner table and said "what the hell is that" and I told her and after I showed her around it she said she would absolutely not upgrade.

Isn't it a bit hard to gauge reactions from people who aren't using the OS and just see/play with it for a few minutes? Obviously its new and different and probably will take a little while to get used to. I haven't used Windows 8 but know people who have and the more the used it the more they started to like it. I think that will be the case with iOS 7. The more people use it the more intuitive it will become.

Did she say why? And is she going Android or Windows then? Or staying on iOS 6?

If anyone actually read the NDA it says that you are allowed to show what Apple has already shown publicly.

Section 10.1
"Notwithstanding the foregoing, Apple Confidential
Information will not include: (i) information that is generally and legitimately available to the public through
no fault or breach of Yours, (ii) information that is generally made available to the public by Apple"

Remember the iPhone 4?

Remember how Apple told all the users with reception issues (due to Apple's defective antenna design) that they were holding it wrong? I suppose that's OK, because all those users will just get used to holding the phone in an unnatural way after a while, eh?

iOS 7 is the same thing. Blame the user. Expect the user to "get used to it". Clearly we are all at fault, and Apple is infallible.

It's not like one of the selling points of the 4S was a new redesigned antenna system or anything.

I remember that any phone that was given the death grip suffered from signal lose. The only difference was that apple has a plethora of forums with whining owners.

No one 'signed' anything if they're not an actual developer.

I really do not know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. The loophole to install iOS beta's has existed since, from memory, iOS 5. I'm not going to post the workaround as it's against forum rules, but people who dabble in iOS betas know what I'm talking about.

Now, are you naive enough to think that Apple, the ultimate 'control freak' of the tech industry, has left a loophole open for non developers to gain access to the latest beta builds of iOS for THREE generations now by accident?

Apple, the company who issue .1 updates for 'bug fixes' which actually exists to close the loopholes that allow the latest jailbreak to work (see 6.1.3 which stopped Evasion in it's tracks).

My point is that for three generations of iOS beta releases, Apple has not closed the loophole to allow non developers access. Why? Because while developers can submit feedback on bugs via their portal, real world use statistics are just as vitally important. Apple are basically saying, "Yeah we'll let you guys in, we'll let you think you're working some back door trick, but in actual fact YOU are real world testing for US."

The crash logs and statistics that Apple will be getting back from these tens of thousands of users cannot be underestimated. And, normally, NDA's only apply to things which have not yet been made known to the public. iOS 7's home screen and features are plastered all over the Apple.com homepage ... so do you think Apple care about 'NDA' when someone shows their friends iOS 7 on their iPhone? It's no different to that same friend going to Apple.com and watching the features there.

Some of the self righteous, sanctimonious nonsense from people on here regarding NDA's is laughable. Do people realise they come across as nerdy sounding, elitist snobs?

The only issue I have with people who use beta software is those who moan about their apps not working and post reviews on the store, or people who start threads to moan about graphical glitches or bugs. Other than that, we're all here for the same reason. We want to know more about iOS. And if Apple wasn't happy with unofficial beta testers posting videos to YouTube or putting screenshots on MacRumors, don't you think the Admin of this very site would have been told to pull these screens and videos LONG before now?

Exactly.

Yet I've shown it to more than ten work colleagues, all liked it, and non-iPhone owners said it was enough of a change to make them consider an iPhone.

The consensus?

What people you know say, and what people I know say, means nothing in the grand scale of things.

Not one of the people you showed your device to had problems unlocking it? Not one person you showed your device to got confused by the lack of buttons, or the clashing UI designs and innovations?

I'm not even sure what this thread means anymore, because I've noticed something- "showing" and "giving" are two completely different things. Everyone I've "showed" iOS 7 to has initially been intrigued and excited- hell, I was pumped during the keynote. It looked awesome. Then I actually got to try it, and my decision reversed 180°.

Likewise, I've noticed that people I **show** iOS 7 to get all hyped up about it. When I actually hand them my device, that opinion radically changes. Excitement gives way to frustration and confusion. Soon enough people start asking "well how the heck do I do that?", and that is not indicative of a properly designed system.

After my friend played with it, he said "thats it? it just looks different and has a thing you can swipe up."

This. Most people just kinda shrug their shoulders and say 'cool, I guess.' Of course when I tell them that once they have iOS 7 installed I can just AirDrop my contact info or the pictures I just took, that gets their attention.

Honestly, I think most people just don't care that much about how it looks. If anything, the lack of buttons and so on will make it harder for a lot of people to use (I'm dreading having to walk my grandma through stuff on her iPad once she upgrades)

I'm just an ordinary Joe who cannot wait to get his hands on iOS7.

So I was wondering about all you lucky ones who all ready have it. What are people's reaction like when you show it off? You must do that I would!

Do they like it hate it or not bothered?

I would love to see it for real instead of just reading about it on here for the next few long months.

There are ways you can play.... just look.

I signed no such agreement and show every one I can. I have had nothing but positive reactions.

not legally.
So you're saying it's illegal for me to download something off the internet and put it on my phone even though Apple let me put it on my phone through iTunes AND they continue to shoot me updates OTA.......yeah ok.

Oh, dry your eyes.

I LoL.

I've not seen one person I've HANDED my iPhone 4S to with iOS 7 running on it have any issues unlocking it or using it. It's not a drastic change, you're going on like it's a massive change to iOS. It's not.

All that's changed is the LOOK of the interface, but everything that was where it was in iOS 6 is the same in iOS 7. Sure, the physical looking 'buttons' have given way to text buttons (simply tapping the word 'back' as opposed to a raised button with 'back' printed on it), but the every day options have remained in place. There isn't a 'lack of buttons', they've just taken away the stupid raised 'tab' buttons and replaced them with text buttons. The things these text buttons do hasn't changed.

You're talking as if Apple have moved lots of stuff around and confused the user, they haven't. And, I'm sorry, if my 11 month old niece can unlock iOS 7 then the people you've shown it to need to attend some workshops at the Apple Store. The ONLY piece of confusion that the new lock screen causes is the arrow pointing upwards to indicate Control Center ... I've seen one person think the Swipe To Unlock refers to the arrow pointing upwards and thus they launch Control Center instead of unlocking the phone.

All iOS 7 is is a brand new paint job, the removal of texture heavy interfaces, and a couple of new features (which is something every OS always gets anyway).

I've been using iOS since iOS 3 when I got an iPhone 3G and I've used every version since. I wasn't confused with anything, it felt like the same iOS infrastructure with a new paint job and the excellent addition of Control Center and a nicer Multitasking UI.

If YOU personally are a long time iOS user and you got your hands on iOS 7 beta and couldn't use your phone due to confusion ... well.

----------

The thing that cracks me up the most is that people are moaning that iOS 7 is confusing and too much of a change so they're switching to Android. A mobile OS that's far more confusing to get into after using iOS and one with more menus and sub menus than I care to remember.

You're becoming a bit of a pain now to be honest. It's like listening to the same record over, and over.

If a person/user/customer does not like something then it's the person/user/customer who has the issue.

I don't like Celtic FC, so I choose not to go and watch them play.

I find their shirt garish and I have no time for their manager. Now, is that Celtic's fault or my fault? Should Celtic change their shirt design and manager to make them more appealing to me? Or should I just accept that they are the way they are, I'm never going to like them, and do my own thing?

Exactly.

when I was in high school, they loved it, especially the ladies for some reason they would play with the camera and take pics.

At work nobody cares because I work with people younger than me (I'm 17) so they probably have no idea what iOS 7 even is.

Dude, skeuomorphism totally screams "premium".

I don't know about you but I could use faux-leather in all facets of my life. It makes me feel like a boss.

People love it! Few people have asked me to set it up my there iPhone.... What's really funny is when I'm getting girls numbers I get the same response,"Oh my God, why is your phone so different is this iOS 7??" Great opener to by the way :)

not so stealthy brag.

My opion is I think is ok to show it off, Since if you go to Apple.com already has a iOS 7 page up with images of iOS7, if they did not want to show off at the WWDC and did just kept the WWDC for the devolpers, and did not post the keynote video, then I would say it would not be ok to show it off.
