Reactivating my 2g iPhone to become 3GS eligible????

I just tried it, but I can't seem to log in right now to check if it worked. They seem to be doing maintenance right now on the site. This better work, I lost my fan discount when I switched
I hope it does.. Please post when you do and if it does post a screen shot to confirm it.

So did you go through the whole itunes activation process like when you first got the phone?
yes, it is why i lost my fan discount. switch from 3g to 2g.
the site still isn't working, and its getting late, going to bed. will check it in the morning.
did not work, date is the same as before.

that sucks.. I may still try it though since the date stayed the same.. any other thoughts on how to become eligible without having to drop a line add a line break a leg and cut of your ear?
Here's the thing tho...
I just got off the line with AT&T, cuz earlier I was browsing and checking my plan, and on where it shows the prices for the voice and date, where u can view and change it. It showed I had iPhone date + unlimited text for 40 bucks and another one that said iPhone unlimited text for 20 bucks.
I was like WTF? So I called them. The lady I had was nice. She first checked if I was paying double. She said I was. Then decide to check the pass month and the month before that and that. She said I was paying double for a year since July. What's funny is, I already checked my pass bills before I called. And it seemed right. 30 for data + 20 for text. So something is up with there system, but ofcourse, I didn't mention that. So back to the story, after she told me that I was paying double since july, I asked how the hell did that happen, she was confused too. She started asking if I changed any of my plans. I told her not recently. She asked if I got a new iPhone. I was like what kind of iPhone does it say I have, that I haven't upgrade recently and I would love a new one tho (which wasn't a lie, got the phone year ago). She didn't mention which one was listed, but right before I called, I did switch it personally online back to iPhone 3g using the menus. She then started to say sorry, but AT&T expects their customers to check their bill and call if there is anything wrong and that she can only credit 3 months worth and that's the poilcy and she will get fired if she gives anymore, even tho she wanted too.
I asked to talk to a supervistor. Then waited for 5 or so min. She got back and said she talked to her supervisor and will allow another 3 months. She ended crediting 120 and told me next month will be prorated. I was like thanks and that's all I need help u. As we were hanging up, she said thank you for calling AT&T business care and hanged up. I was like WTF? I don't got a business account. But that's for a different time. I just got credit 120!! I'll fix the business thing next month after the credit shows up on my next bill. Lol.
Hah. Heres another update, well, more good news for me it seems. I just chedked my account online again, now it says i have the iphone 2g, so it like switched it back. I think I know what went wrong.
So before all of this, I had the iphone 3g data plan 30 bucks + unlimited msg for 20 bucks, plus fan discount 15%. So im guessing when I activated the 2g using itunes, and selected unlimited msg in that process it added the iphone data plan with unlimited msg for 40 bucks, which makes sense, cuz back then the data plan was 20 bucks plus 20 for unlimited msg. But i guess the system keep the old 3g unlimited msg which had its own catagory.
Where was I, oh yah, so I check my account online again, now it shows I have the original iphone (even tho i switch sims a while back, right before the phone call to att back to my 3g and switch it manually to iphone 3g on the website, using the menus by picking apple, then iphone 3g 8gb black).
Now it shows i have iPhone Data Plan + Unlimited Text $40.00, with no other msg plan. And it shows for my plan:
ORIGINALLY: $39.99
MONTHLY COST: $31.99
So it looks like my discount still applies, which doesn't make sense since the discount isn't suppost to work on 2g from what I remember. and on the right side it shows:

Your account type qualifies you to the following discounts. Service discounts are applied to the primary line under eligible agreements and exclude certain rate plan types and devices (e.g. iPhone data features and packages).
Service : 20.0%
but my fan discount was suppost to be 15%...
AND my credit of 120 bucks is on my account.
HAHA! good stuff, 120 credit, im being charged a 2g data plan (which means I saved 10 bucks from the 3g data plan), plus discount on my voice plan (which shouldn't have a discount since its a 2g plan) and an increase in my discount by 5%. I guess I'm not going to call them back about that business account thing, dont want them to figure out something is wrong and fix it. LOL
oh and one last thing. im still getting a 3g signal on my iphone 3g. ha! I may not have gotten eligibility for the new iphone, but this is good too, maybe even better. good stuff, very good stuff.
haha I'm glad I started this thread! Its very interesting and continues to get even more interesting. Thats a wild story. Think you can post screen shots of WTF is going on? its rather complex but hey 120 to you my friend. It seems like after all that you would be eligible.

Because my brother gave me his iPhone first gen last year when he got his 3G but now he wants to as well upgrade to the 3GS, would this work for him or not? He sold his iPhone 3G, so if i let him restore my phone and let him activate his number on it, would it work? Im lost lol, i would want to help him save the 200 bucks if i can haha.

One has and one hasn't worked so it maybe just random and not worth trying.. Are you eligible for an upgrade then? He could just use that.
I no longer care about the eligibility, with the credit and all the discounts I will be getting in my service, over the next 12 months it add up way more then 200 bucks then what I would have to pay to get the new iphone. I'm not going to push my luck and try to get eligibility, that will just increase the chances of them figuring out that something just isn't right, and fix it.

Wow that is really weird, hmmm...i will try this thursday and update this post with results, because i also want to try with my brothers sim card to see if push works when he activates my phone because thats also a problem im having with 3.0 GM Seed. But regarding the eligibillity, i will attempt it when i see him next on thursday. Anyone else want to give it a shot

I'd say its entirely possible.. same way last year when people who DIDNT have an iPhone used other ppls 1st gens to get the iPhone plan even though they weren't using an iPhone.. perhaps its quite the opposite now.. going from 3g to BB and back to 2G ?? complex but thats what loop holes consist of right? mazes??

No I haven't yet.. I'm hesitant to but as of right now my eligibility is 3/10 for some crazy reason.. I though it was supposed to be eligible for full upgrade price one year after the 3g purchase which would be July 11

its not one year, its 18 months. which is why my ends at dec this year. i bought the iphone 3g on the day it came out. so plus 18 months = december.
