Background: My iPhone was stolen at a park on Saturday. I was careless but truthfully I've never had something like this happen to me. I promptly made a theft and loss claim. Thinking that this process like every Apple support process I've been a part of would be seamless and easy, I wasn't that worried. Holy **** was I wrong. You would think this is an easy Apple like process. It is not. To my horror, I discovered the Theft and Loss program is administered by AIG NOT Apple. AIG is a complete joke. Their website looks like ****. The claim process is an utter disaster. The customer support folks have absolutely zero authority to do anything. Here is the process:

Step 1: Click the iPhone to file a claim.

Step 2: Submit claim.

Step 3: I am taken to a broken page.

Step 4: Perhaps it was filed successfully. I received an email and the mysupport site is updated.

Step 5: Check the claim status through AIG's website.

I called the number listed in the red error message. (866) 258-7419 AIG has no record of the claim. They say I need to do it through Apple. I explained that I followed the standard process and that I am now 10 days without a phone. AIG told me initially the escalation should take 5 days, so I waited patiently. They call me today saying there were unable to successfully resolve the case and I should expect it to take 30 business days to process as they do another escalation per their terms of service. Apple has all third party suppliers over a barrel. I do not understand how they could let another company treat their customers like this. I couldn't be without a phone for 30 days, so I just went out and bought a new one. Moral of the story, Theft and Loss is not worth it. Get your insurance through a carrier. The process is so much better.

Avoid Apple Theft and Loss at all costs.

I have had that happen in the past. The first thing after losing my phone is I walked into an Apple Store to purchase a new one and then put a claim in.

It’s a real PITA when it happens and other than fighting with the insurance company I hope your digital life was secured.

Yup, same thing happened to me last night. Tried to submit a claim from my ipad via the Apple Support app and got a blank/white website and it just kept downloading a claim.txt file?? Then I got that same email from Apple and thought I was good. Didn't feel right so after reading around online I realized I should have been asked to submit documentation and/or pay the deductible which hadn't happened. Heck I didn't even know I submitted a claim because it was a blank webpage.

I've been trying to access the AIG website literally all day today using my ipad. I finally figured out how to access the claim form to resubmit and the date picker wouldn't enter the date of the loss so I wasn't able to submit! I would choose a date and nothing would show up in the form field. I'm out of town and had to wait to access my laptop to pull up the form yet again and finally was able to submit the stupid claim which thankfully was immediately approved. I entered my husband's phone number as the contact, since my number is temporarily disconnected by Verizon since I reported the device lost. I got worried they'd be sending me a phone for his number so just had to call Apple who sent me to AIG and they confirmed I should be good since phones aren't tied to phone numbers anymore with physical SIMs.

Total nightmare trying to get this resolved and I still have 3 days of my trip to be without a phone and can't receive any texts on my ipad since my phone number is disconnected now.
