Real dumb if the 5.5 has better specs. Getting the 4.7 regardless but I see no point in that.

So disappointed. Now if I want the best phone Apple has to offer, I have to get a 5.5" iPhone (too big for me but I get others like it). :(

I don't mind Apple making a 5.5" iPhone along with the 4.7", but they should keep them the same spec wise.

I have a hard time thinking it's true. There's certainly a market share to be taken for Apple from the phablet category, but the biggest is by far the smaller ones and because of I don't see why they would compromise the 4.7" phone.

Everybody just needs to chill out. We're going to know in 4 days if there are any differences between the two iPhone sizes. No need to get worked up about it now:cool:

Here's hoping for:

4.7"
8MP, 1.75um pixels, OIS

5.5"
12-13MP, 1.75um pixels, OIS

why not keep megapixels the same, the iPhone community is definitely split 50/50 with the 4.7" and 5.5", most likely more iPhone users will probably go for the smaller of the two.

Just like the iPad Mini w/Retina Display the iPad Air, the only thing differentiating the two should be display size and battery, and maybe slightly bumped processor to compensate. THATS IT!

Not that what we read is official until Apple says so, but
I agree with that. I going a little further even. I want an update for the 4" as well.

If there isn't going to be an update for the 4", then you have to go big when you want the new technology. Make the 5/s/c wider and you have a bigger screen, but is for a different topic. But as it seems the "6" is going to get taller again. Means: new tech, adjust to the big size or go home... And if this is true you have to go massive if you want the best tech updated iPhone. I do not want a bigger phone.

We will see next week. till then it is all speculation of course.

I really hope the 5.5 gets the same September 19th release. I don't think I can wait any longer.

Crossing my fingers for this too. If they say not available till late October/November I think I may have to get the 4.7" and then sell and buy the 5.5" when it comes. I can't wait another 2 months to upgrade. At least let me pre-order the 5.5 the same day as 4.7 preorders(assuming there are preorders this year)

iPods are like this and most people put the phone in a case.

iPods are not important and compulsary deviced while phones are.
and you are basically saying we need to hide the product inside a case to cover it's ugly and poor design.that's the dumbest solution I've heard.
Apple is known for perfection in design,if one of their products is so badly designed that people have to hide them in a cover, then that product is a disaster.

There is no way two iPhones that differ by so much internal space would have the same specs. To do so you would have to artificially limit the 5.5. According to the article, the camera sensor with OIS simply won't fit in the 4.7" case. If you're going to make one unit a premium model, you're going to do it to the more expensive, larger version; similar to what you see between the iPad Air and iPad Mini.

What's the difference between the Air and retina mini other than the CPU being clocked slightly higher on the Air and the color gamut being slightly better? I don't see anything that makes the Air the "premium" model. Is the CPU difference even noticeable between the two devices? To me a flagship device is the one that sells the best. I'm highly skeptical that consumers (especially in the US) would chose the 5.5" model over the 4.7" version.

They will probably keep them as close as possible When it comes to specs. Size is the ultimate differentiator. I could see the larger model running a faster processor and maybe more ram just to further justify the price difference. Like the macbook pros.

Here was I sure to get the 4.7 iPhone 6 as my first iPhone...

Thanks leaks. Now I'm stuck deciding on a phone smaller than my Nexus 5 or bigger :|

I'd prefer the same sort of specs. Why make the 5.5 have a higher resolution?

More internal realestate, for a larger sensor. *shrug* wild guess and wishful thinking based on the article noting it's a larger module that doesn't fit in the 4.7.

Something has to change, the sensor module is supposedly different.

I'd rather a spec like megapixel which doesn't mean much suffer, rather than pixel size or OIS.

Battery life should be the primary concern. If it doesn't negatively impact battery life then it should be available for both sizes.

Still not sure Apple cant match the Notes' specs. I wish... but I dunno. It'll take a miracle.

i wish they would build a specced out phone also but i had this discussion the other day with a friend. Galaxy Notes almost have to have that much ram to push Android as well as Touchwiz with the note features on top.

Apple has the luxury of tailoring its software to run stable and fast on its hardware Samsung not so much.

Are both the new models the same height?

You're absolutely right. And no, the difference is only by a few percent if I'm not mistaken according to Anandtech. The only reason for that is obviously that it can clock itself higher when it's running intensive games, thanks to better (more room) TDP, i.e dissipate heat better.

Is it possible that when placed on a surface that the camera will be pushed in to be flush with the rest of the phone?

While an interesting concept, I think if they had the space to do that, they'd just make the lens flush from the start.

D.

I don't actually expect that, given that Apple has been very adamant about keeping the same resolution for quite a while. That's really one of the reasons why they've made such a great "compromise" the mobile camera department compared to its competitors. If it's getting increased, I'm sure i'll happen to both models.

Are the flex cables just different position wise, or is the actual lens larger?

Don't see why they wouldn't sneak in more with the extra space they are getting. Just look at the Macbooks. And they are probably taking a higher margin on the largest, why not sell as many as possible, make the most money.
