Maybe they'll sell them to those cheapo prepaid plans? At any rate, that thing looks like a phone i'd give my kids

Those prepaid plans are very popular in many countries around the world. You answered your own questions. You want your kids on a $100/month contract? No? That's why they need an iPhone that's cheaper unsubsidised.

----------

Well they know where those cases are being manufactured right? Not like they just say someone come make this case for us and let us know how much we owe you.

Do you have any idea how many people are involved in producing these things. We are talking about a lot of people. As we speak they probably have a production line in China churning out these things in the millions ready for launch.

Quite Nice

I'd be tempted with one. What internals do we think it'll have, from the 4s?

*Edit*

Ok, so stay with me on this......Just putting it out there but who else is thinking that maybe this might be the new iphone 5s and not low cost?

I know its crazy, but hear me out.

Lets say the iphone sales number are slowing, or Apple wants more money for each phone. Manufacturing is the place to save. If this new iphone is cheaper to make and has 5s internals it could be the new phone. Perhaps then they might still make a metal bodied phone and call it a pro model? Or perhaps (and i hate to mention this), Apple is trying to get away from metal body phones. Coming from a Samsung S3 back to iphone 5, i have to admit i still have times where i have full bars on vodafones 3G network and it won't connect to the web, the only thing that fixes it is a airplane on/off. Now that could be vodafone, but i've definitely seen a differnce in signal levels (bars) on the same network, in the same location (work) between the SGS3 and the iphone 5. The metal body has been around since the iphone 3G, with a redesign from 4-5, so maybe Apple are going back to plastic for better radio signal?

Crazy i know, put not unlike Apple to throw a curve ball.

My guess is that it will be closer to the 5 internals. The phone will have to have LTE, and it will have to run iOS 7 with seamless ease.

Buy the Lumia now! Buy it now! Don't wait till the real iPhone comes out!

I'm not sure why people hate this design. It's elegantly clean, just like the iPhone 3G/GS exterior.

The guy on the video said the plastic was also very comfortable to hold, which is important for a phone.

Looks like garbage. I'll gladly buy a Lumia, which will be infinitely better than this, AND cheaper.

The Lumia wouldn't be able to match this phone in any category but screen size.

----------

I know it's better because it also has an infinitely better OS running it.

Infinitely better? It was just 2 years ago that WP got copy and paste...

I believe you, look at this thread and then the very last post by me ;) I noticed it after watching a video for the shell on YouTube.

The plastic feel will not translate to this phone. If you look they have a full supporting structure on the body (which obviously means that there will be no removable battery). Samsung's are just back panels that snap in. The phone should be very sturdy and have a higher quality feel to it.

I think there is a misconception about plastics and quality of feel.

I have not seen that much spin since I was stuck in red clay.:)

I do agree with you on misconceptions though. Actually it has been mostly fanboys finding a difference to by calling plastic phones garbage. In reality todays plastic, good abs, is strong. Samsung's phones do not feel cheap and I do not believe this will either.

I carried an m-16 (plastic stock's) in vietnam that went through far more than phones do and it never failed. Plastic is far better now. Glock's, xd's, (to name just 2) and just about any modern military rifle have plastic stocks. People that complain about plastic on a phone crack me up, it's ridiculous. Me? I'm not rich enough to worry about if there's plastic or not on the phone, I just know I won't/can't pay 825.00 for one just for an aluminum case.

To some use is not important, posing with it is.

Are we back in the late 90'ies - hard plastic?

Give me the phone in a natural, ecofriendly, good looking bamboo and then I'm in!

So it will not be a "low cost iPhone". I think it will much more be an iPod Phone. It is exactly that: an iPod touch (5th) with phone - that also explains the color assortment. It has been rumored for years now that after iPod touch (3rd) the iPhone will take over and leave no space for the touch. Except if they put a phone in it and start to sell it as a "low cost iPhone", called the "iPod Phone". Let's see if I am right on that... :D

LOL at elegantly clean. You work in marketing?

I thought Apple was assembling some devices in Brazil. A plastic-backed iPhone would be easier for Foxconn to assemble in places outside of China.

Apple charges brazilian-made iPhones to brazilian people as if they were made outside. iPhone 4 8GB (Made in Brazil) costs around US$500,00 and iPhone 4S 16GB is sold for US$ 700,00 (both unlocked).

Nice spot!

I def think the new iphone 5s will have these plastic cases. I also think the 5 as it is, is still a Steve Jobs phone. We've seen latey Tim Cooks relaxing of some of Steve ideas, so changing the design is another move away from the Steve design. I like them, and id go for one. Even if it was the same processor but better camera with the new OS, id go for one.
