Truly no offense to anyone, but I don't get people that are saying it isn't happening to them.

As I see it, it's simple... by definition this is a design flaw, so by definition, it affects everyone, as the phones all share the same design.

It doesn't happen to everyone, because it doesn't happen everywhere, only under specific circumstances where signal is either 1900mhz or is low enough that the loss sends the phone into searching mode.

In other words, if all of the 1.5 million iPhones sold were sitting in my home, or work, it would happen to everyone.

God, I have gone naked since the original iPhone... I soooo don't want to have to use a case. :(

. . . by definition this is a design flaw . . .
Just playing devil's advocate, but who classified it as a design flaw? Maybe its a manufacturing flaw that only happened at certain manufacturing plants. Maybe its software related. Maybe its related to what type of WiFi you are connected to. I'm sure Apple is looking into it and trying to figure it out, but I think declaring it a design flaw is still premature, even it the evidence is pointing in that direction.

I'll give you that, you're right.

As you say, it is certainly looking like one, but that was simply my opinion based on what is currently known/observable.

Far from trying to be right on this, believe me, I hope I am utterly wrong, and that 4.01 makes it go away! :(

I think they will tweak the signal indicator in software to make it appear less severe. After that, most people won't care anymore. Problem "solved".

I'm afraid you may be right, but even if they do, they can't hide the fact that since having my iPhone 4, I have dropped over 75% of my calls, whereas before on my 3gs, it was maybe 5%.

I'm not exaggerating those numbers... it's actually really sad!

People shut up it's not the end of the world and not every iphone is affected. I tried to get my phone to drop signals and I can't. The Xbox 360 had a severe problem of actually dying multiple times but that didn't hurt the 360 did it? When your the top dog which the iPhone is people are gonna do whatever it takes to take you down and make this seem like the worst problem in the world. I'm sure a software update will come and everything will be rosy. Your phone is not unusable and it's not broken so shut up until an update comes. Thank you.

Um, is that what you do, go around forums that are designed for people to express themselves or their ideas, and tell them all to shut up?

Shoo!

Yes, because it's not the end of the world! And many people don't have a problem so it's annoyning to only hear the iphone is broken and it's going to be recalled blah blah blah. Just relax and wait for a software update and if that doesn't fix it then complain all you want.

And I'm sorry I'm so calling bogus on your 75%. In fact did you know that 80% of all facts are fabricated?

Same exact thing for me when compared to my 2g and 3GS. I don't ever recall dropping a call at home or work with those. With the 4, easily more than half my calls are dropped and data is sporadic in the exact same locations. I even miss calls if the phone is in my pocket. Only way it reliably works is on a table with no touching.

That said, I am hoping for a miracle fix. I really don't want to go back to my 3GS after experiencing this screen.

Recalling 1.5 million iPhones would probably cost $400 million, stocks would drop, and that would be bad news for the company. The issue isn't bad enough for a recall, that's for sure. Free bumpers would be the best solution, with no recall necessary afterwards.

I agree. If Apple didn't recall the early 2008 MacBook Pros with their self destructing GPUs, the iPhone 4 will not be recalled.

Remember people:
Cost for recall < Cost for lawsuits
for a recall to happen.

So your saying you can't even touch your iphone to make a phone call? That sounds like a bigger problem then just covering the antanna.

Yes. I am saying it is far more sensative to signal interference than my previous iPhones. Reliability of calls was never a question. Now I am happy to complete a conversation.

Yes - the chance of me completing a phone call without it getting dropped is about 50-50 by my rough reckoning. I think I had two or three dropped calls in two years of using my iPhone 3G on the same network (O2).

Nope not bogus.... The majority of calls on my new iPhone have dropped/failed, even in areas where I know there are no service issues. One 10 min phone call I had with a friend yesterday dropped 4 or 5 times.
My sister got a new iPhone the same day I did, and she has had none of the issues I've had with mine. We even tested out making phone calls from the same spot to the same phone number and like clockwork my calls dropped.

So both you and your sister have 4s??

I can say with 100% certainty that all of my phone calls over 15 mins have dropped.

I can also say with 100% certainty that my wife has zero problems with her iphone 4.

I was given a new phone last night. so far so good.
