Total nonesense. Post a video and prove me wrong. I just installed a 120GB Vertex 3 in my 2011 Macbook Pro 17" and it booted in about 19 sec before I migrated everything from my old system. Now it boots in about 24sec. It absolutely screams. Any Mac will take 7-9 sec before you even see the Apple logo come up.

i was counting from when apple loaded! sorry i was told this by tech support on my prev ssd

from screen re-starting up and home screen display my owc boots in 12-15secs
this is with trim enabled, it was a lot faster on clean install and no trim
here are my vids:

video 1

video 2

video 3

x2 more vids

im still getting 13secs on average

Thanks for the videos, but I still think you are overstating the speed. In the first 2 videos you are doing a restart, so it's a bit difficult to tell when to start counting, but it's clearly more than 13 sec. In video 3 it is still shutting down right at the beginning and then the desktop comes up in about 18-19 sec. The video is 21 sec long and ends about 1 sec after your desktop comes up.

I just installed my Vertex 3 last night in my 17" 2011 MacBook Pro and I'm seeing about the same boot times as you, 18-19 sec. When I look at boot times, I'm figuring a cold boot from the time I press the power button to when I see the desktop.

This is just splitting hairs. The bottom line is, this thing is ridiculously fast with a fast SSD.

.

agree 100% matey

i tell you what i will do a boot-up from system'off' and have my iphone timing it simultaneously -

i think it was my mistake as i was counting the time taken from when the apple logo came on - which i normally got as 7-9secs on fresh install and without trim

currently i have 92/102 gb filled and trim enabled - still superfast imo

really notice the difference - when i load win7 in bootcamp with the stock drize
< combo of an average hdd and an awful os - lol>

-maybe i was being a lil overexcited but did not mean to deceive any1

i've got a question for vertex 3 (or any ssd for that matter) on the mbp. i installed the 240gb v3 in my 15" mbp. on istat, the temperature on the HDD reads 128 C! yikes!

this can't be true, can it? what do your temperature reads? is there a fix?

update slowing down boot time!!

hmm this is weird. i went from an 11-12 second boot to a 20 second boot after updating my computer. this is no fair!!! i had some sweet bragging rights and now they're nowhere near as cool. my friend didn't believed me when i said i had an 12 second boot time! but now its 21, which sucks. well not really sucks but still :D

What updates did you apply?

Same thing happened to me going from 6.6 to 6.7. Really blows, and doesn't really make any sense. I wish someone had a fix!!!!!!

the x.x.7 SL update. it totally killed my boot time. Literally almost doubled it. very uncool of apple! i wonder what they did to make the computer take so much longer to load ya know? had more stuff start running as soon as you clicked power instead of waiting for the background to show maybe? i have no idea what the situation is but it kinda sucks. i mean a 19 second boot time is still pretty quick, but considering i was getting 11-12… meh.

so does this mean overtime my boot time will go back to normal? or maybe on x.x.7.1 they will have the problem resolved ?

I think it is more of a problem with permissions getting messed up and stuff like that.

I have applied all updates (Apple or otherwise) and my boot time increased from 12 seconds to 15 seconds. I didn't get anywhere near 20 secs. Repairing permissions brought it down to 13 secs, but that is within the margin of error (my thumb on the iphone timer)

I'm assuming you are counting from the "bong" sound or when Apple logo appears. I always figure boot up times from hitting the power button to seeing the desktop. I have yet to see anyone's boot time less than 18 sec. If you mean from hitting the power button, then I would love to see a video.

Nope, I'm counting it from the press of the power button

didn't 10.6.7 enable trim? I bet it looks for an apple ssd to enable trim and if it doesn't find it moves on. Might be the problem with longer boot times. Just a theory.

Hi there,

Does the vertex 3 have any issues with the new macbook pro 17" like the OWC 6G drives do? Anyone got this setup?

Regards,
Simon

I had no issues on a fresh install. My results are:

I was just super cautious w/ the cable, removed the stock hd screws, remounted and away I went.

Well I dont really see why boot is used as a test. That drive is supposed to be about 50% faster than my SATAII SSD but it only boots about the same speed(15seconds)

What should really be used it loading a lot of databases or something that requires a lot of disk use and is not limited by CPU or RAM.

Vertex 3 AJA benches on a 17'' i7 2.2 with Vertex 3 120gb

:D Aja benches on 1080p 10bit RGB...
Love it.

I'm curious how most of you installed your SSD?

I'm planning on booting off the install dvd and using Disk Utility to transfer the whole disk image to the new drive. I looked at Carbon Copy Cloner but since I have a boot camp partition it looked simpler to just use Disk Utility.
