WOW! Lucky you! I have seen others that ordered later in the evening on 3/11 and they have later shipping dates than mine (4/7). Not sure how it works, I will just be happy to get mine in hand. A Target in my area has them in stock, but I've been on this emotional roller coaster and I've decided to ride it to the end!

Some useful tips:

Smart Cover shipment seems to have no bearing on when iPad will ship.

I found that when the funds are withdrawn from your bank account you have approx. 24 - 48 hours before your item goes 'PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT.'

Sorry for the delayed reply. Sometimes I do other things.

FDX86 is not really a factor here since it's an Oakland flight that took off at 4:54 pm AKDT. As for the other two possibilities, which concern Memphis flights, two things are pertinent. First, the scans shown on the Fedex trackers are for actual departure times and not scheduled departure times. Second, the time shown by the scans are typically within one minute of the reported actual departure time shown on the flight trackers that cover airline activity.

If you have a departure scan for 3:10 pm AKDT, the closest match is FDX14, which had an actual departure time of 3:11 pm AKDT. I imagine that the time data is being generated by atomic clocks at some level, but I've also seen some drift in the times actually reported by such clocks. So a one minute difference is not significant, either theoretically or in practice.

Since FDX72 departed at 3:16 pm AKDT, it's possible but unlikely that the 3:10 scan was really for that flight. I've seen at least one instance where the reported departure time differed from the scan time by 4-5 minutes, but that wasn't in Anchorage.

Parsing the data to this extent probably doesn't have much value so long as your iPad is headed toward Memphis this evening. If it became vital to get the exact flight number for your package, I imagine a Fedex data center could pull up a detailed record that shows such data. Alternatively, one of the forum members could just call a Fedex friend in Anchorage and ask him or her to verify which scan went with which flight.

Apple Customer Service told me a couple of days ago that mine would be shipping from a warehouse in Illinois - anybody else have theirs come from Illinois? Any guess how long before it goes from "Prepared for Shipment" to "Shipped?"

That would be surprising if it shipped from Illinois. I think that would be the first one we've seen not come from China. Let us know once you get the tracking info.

EDIT: Also, do we think things will go from prepared for shipping to actually being shipped while it's the weekend over there?

Whoo-hoo! Ordered 3/11 and got my notice. Delivers by March 29th, that's over a week earlier than estimated. Awesome.
 
Although the initial excitement of the iPad2 deliveries may be wearing off, I suspect there are a number of viewers out there who have some information relevant to deliveries over the next week. If you have any information on the following situations, I hope that you will post so that we can get a better sense of where Apple and Fedex stand in getting the iPad2 out to the public:

1. If you have gotten a Fedex tracking number from Apple within the past day, what was the time and date of your order? And what model did you order?

2. Are any iPad2's being held for more than 24 hours at either Lantau Island or Anchorage, especially on the weekend? This was a problem a week ago.

3. Is Fedex continuing to truck orders out of its Ft. Worth hub, or is it now arranging connecting flights to places like Wichita and Kansas City? Related to this, have buyers in Kansas been able to get good delivery service through the Memphis hub if parcels have been routed that way instead?

4. Does anyone know for sure where the Shenzhen to Memphis iPad2 shipments are going (e.g., the Apple stores)? Knowing this might help us assess any ramp-up in deliveries by Apple to its retail outlets.

5. Are there any other unusual delays or situations affecting your delivery?

Posting the actual tracking data is often helpful to the rest of us in understanding whatever is going on. Thank you.

In the past, FDX1951 would depart Newark at about 4 am for Dulles, and your iPad2 would be out for delivery by now. Fedex doesn't seem to have scheduled such a flight today. I'm very surprised that Fedex didn't route your parcel through Memphis, which did have a connecting flight to Dulles this morning. I suppose this means waiting until Monday.

UPDATE: Some further checking shows that 1951 doesn't usually go on Saturdays, Sundays, or Mondays. Possibly Fedex expects to truck the parcels to its DC service centers on these days.

My ipad is on the same shipment, and I live about 30 miles from Newark airport, doesn't look like it is moving out of the airport today, so I will probably get it only monday :(. I have to work late monday, so just a little disappointed that I will not have it around to play with it today.

Mine is sitting in NJ as well, arrived at 2:19am I thought I was going to get lucky and have it today. Boston is only 3hrs away:(

Got my shipping email last night! Order a 16GB black wifi at 9am EST on launch morning. Estimated ship was April 1. Had been "prepared for shipping" for two days. New estimated arrival moved up from April 6 to March 31 (though Apple's email had even claimed arrival on March 30).
 
My 64GB White is now in Memphis TN (from Anchorage Alaska)...looking to be delivered on or before March 29th. Original ship date was April 1st.:)
 
I ordered mine on march 11 at 7:09 PM, and it had an expected ship date of 4/1 with delivery on 4/7. It now has a delivery date of 3/30. When I got up this morning, I expected it to still be on Lantau Island. I was surprised to see it in Memphis.

mine arrived in memphis early today morning from anchorage. has a deliver date of 3/31 in st louis!! not sure why so long when its already in memphis, expect it by monday or is it that fedex does not move shipments on weekends??
