So does this mean that mine is on Flight 94 into Memphis? FedEx expected delivery: Mar 31; Apple estimate: Mar 30. Doesn't seem possible to get to Tallahassee by tomorrow, Mar 30th???

Good chance that your unit is on Flt 94. If so, don't give up hope on delivery for tomorrow. Could be on flight from Memphis to Florida in the very early am and then out for delivery before end of day tomorrow. Not guaranteed, but also not an unusual result.

So do we know for sure if Apple shipped iPad's today? I want to know if Apple is shipping iPad's individually 24/7 to try and meet demand or if Apple waits for iPad's to be assembled before sending them in giant groups.

Could be, although last week my smartcover came through Memphis and had an almost identical departure time out of Anchorage. Guess I will find out in the am when the tracking updates. I hope it is on whichever flight tonight gets it to me soonest.

yeh .. my cover went through MEM too (ANC had turned it around the same day) .. then went straight to sort at EWR where it sat for a day until it showed up today ..

funny, but I never thought too much about shipping logistics and flights - they can adjust the windows a little better to fit when they fill the planes which is a different game than passenger flights .. they can be a little more fluid in the routing (and timing - within bounds) when you don't have complaining passengers trying to make connections .. this is probably why we don't see the same consistent sets of flight times that exist on most passenger routes.

i know via FlightAwake that the flight from anchorage to newark left at 16:05 Alaska time (final destination nyc)...

so does this mean my ipad cleared customs right after the flight left (and thus will stay there another 24 hours until tomorrows flight to newark)?

...or could it have been a late scan possibly still on that flight??

Unlikely you made it on to the flight. Released for delivery means it cleared customs, and if it was that late I doubt it made it onto a flight. Mine cleared customs around 15:00 and didn't make it on any flight. But it seems that once it leaves Alaska, it gets to the hub late that night, then catches a flight that same night/early am to your destination and sometimes makes it out for delivery that AM it arrives. So if it leaves Alaska tomorrow, it wouldn't be surprising if it delivers Thursday.

Looks like our iPads are still together -- both headed to Boston area. My shipment email from Apple indicated delivery no later than today, but the fedex tracking has been consistent and indicated delivery no later than tomorrow. Assuming the tracking info is up to date and the units are still in Newark, I don't think we will see them today. Looks like tomorrow -- which is disappointing.

(jonhaxor correctly predicted that we'd be on the Newark flight last night rather than Memphis.)

my cover took a day to clear Newark (local delivery -> NYC) last time .. not sure this time, but Memphis def looks problematic today given the thunderstorms - so it's a good miss:

to answer the other floating questions .. i believe it was a 1-2 days between PFS and the shipment notification, but am thinking this might vary depending on the credit card hold and supply constraints (plus engraving .. etc)

Oakland, anyone?

Anyone else have issues with delays getting out of Oakland? I'm showing a 930PM Oakland sort facility arrival, but no updates that my iPad made the 234AM flight Oakland - Seattle. I'd be surprised if there's so much Oakland to Seattle freight that with a 5 hour window it couldn't make it aboard. The flight touched down in Seattle almost 3 hours ago, no updates to my status however.
