just a couple of things...

student discount (HE) is 14% of machines. i got my £829 macbook for about £710.

Also, is there any reason you blackbook buyers bought black instead of white? purely cosmetic, right? because in the UK its £70 cheaper for a white macbook with the same spec. just curious about this. i was gonna go for black, but then realised i could have the same white one for cheaper (plus it'd match my white ipod :))

Also, kg1984, you said you upgraded your to 4GB of ram. hows that goin? i've been thinkin of upgrading mine to 4GB too. what brand did you use?

thanks

Thats why I bought mine. Plus I'd seen the white ones in the apple store and they were super grubby... Of course I didn't realise the black matte finish looks grubby too after a few uses!

I think the edu discount in UK is diff from US. I'm in US and got $100, which was 8%. Also, the blackbook has diff specs in the US (mainly in the HDD: 160GB vs. 120).

I just bought my MB (had an iMac before) so it's my first time with the MB, but I dumped in 4GB out of the box, and it's screaming fast. I haven't tried any games (I'm not a gamer, so it's not that important to me) but I've been doing itunes, movies and even 720p NTSC video editing and the MB is taking it all. No hiccups yet. At one time I've had a financial package, was downloading my iTunes lib from my iMac had iPhoto open and Safari, and the thing didn't blink. I got my RAM for $119 after rebate (Mushkin brand from newegg.com) so the upgrade was COMPLETELY worth it. I'm running 10.5 (didn't move to 10.5.1 yet)

ye, its exactly the same spec as the UK. i was just comparing a midrange white macbook with a 160GB upgrade from apple. exactly the same processor, ram and hard drive and still a £70 (roughly $140) price difference, which is just for the black casing it would seem.

I also only got the black cos I thought it looked sleeker than the white but there are no differences otherwise

I used Kingston ram for my 4gb upgrade simply because they were the cheapest from at £56 and its boosted performance alot and even made the laptop run cooler

Yeah, I only got the black because I like the way it looks better that the white and it matches my iPhone. Since I was already planning to get the upgraded 250GB hard drive and to put in 4GB of memory myself, I could have gotten the same configuration white Macbook for cheaper. But whatever, I got the color I wanted!

I also got opted for the Kingston 4GB ram from this site Newegg.

I compared the Sony Vaio I bought in September (13.3" screen, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram, 160GB hard drive) to my Macbook when opening Firefox, MS Word (Pages for my Macbook), and iTunes on both all at the same time and the Macbook blew the Vaio away.

1st gen macbook user... and was ready to buy a black macbook as an upgrade...but decided to wait until MWSF just in case. Hopefully things will be very clear on the 15th.

I can't post a link here due to lack of copy/paste on the iPhone. Anyway search the forums for "The Cheapest RAM Retailers" the first hit should give you the thread you're looking with various links to cheap RAM in UK. The one I used was the play.com one....the first one

we ordered one for my wife maybe a year ago now. Maybe less. Not sure. Only remorse I have is that illustrator CS2 CONSTANTLY bombs on the thing. It's unstable in general but it's TERRIBLE on the macbook. I can barely work on the damn thing because of it. It's actually pretty unstable all together. I've never had so many problems with a mac before.

I run a G5 at the office and it's pretty damn stable. Illustrator has it's issues but that's illustrator for you.

As for the timing. Not bummed. Couldn't have waited.

why is it a rookie mistake? i'm on it right now and i love it. i got it an hour ago.

Because you bought with MWSF 6 days away... it's always good to wait until after a big event. While the rumors may trick you into thinking the regular Macbook won't be updated...it may be.

Nope, the only remorse I would possibly have is, if they released a Mac Notebook with a BETTER GPU then the Macbook's.

But if s/he bought a stock model then s/he has 14 days protection against updates. If a newer model comes out then s/he can send it back for the newer model.

I love my macbook pro, bought it for around $3050 and couldn't be more happier. Sure it was a huge investment but to me it was well worth it. I see a lot of people at my school (a IT type school for graphics, art, game design, etc) with macbooks (non pros), a good deal with the new blackbooks while the others who don't have macs use Dells or HPs. I love it when I go into my Design II class and me, a friend of mine, and my teacher are the only ones that understand the power of macs and so we all joke around and talk about how bad Windows is (though it isn't that bad, I still use windows, just not as much).

Today, a person in class was talking about how his Dell laptop is so slow and how he thinks he has a virus. All I did was look at my mac friend and my teacher, Jay, smiled and said to him "that sucks, Macs don't get viruses." My teacher is great and tells how he loves his mac and uses it all the time

The only think that I'm not happy about is the fact that rumors of an upgraded Macbook pro sometime soon and sucks that I spent $3000 only to have it be outdone so quickly. Oh well, I still get compliments all the time (and a ton of looks).

I regret buying my Macbook 2.2. The display is really bad.
The graphic cards is also bad. I wish I bought a mbp instead.

Yeah, but why cause yourself the inconvenience due to impatience?

Because you may need it. Say if you have work that needs doing and the lack of a working computer means that you won't be able to do it. Returning things isn't the end of the world :)

not sure if this counts, but my insurance company have just sent me a brand new macbook pro 2.2GHz, and I kinda wished I'd waited an extra month before claiming so I could have got the new model if one is released.

My macbook pro is now up for sale, so I will either be buying a new one if one is released, or buy a faster model than the 2.2GHz.
