My favorite is Bacon Reader. Hopefully the Android version of this official app is in the horizon as well. But if I know anything about official apps, many times they are underwhelming.

There is no iPad support because fragmentation exists under iOS. Too much work for developers to support so many devices with so many screen resolutions.
So I guess nobody makes Android apps? Or Android phones all have the exact same resolution?

Did you have the Pro version? The 4 years of Gold was for Pro users only I believe.

I bought Alien Blue Pro twice. Once under the original owners, and once after Reddit bought it. I did not get the 4 years of gold either :(.

Love the new app. Love my 4 years and 3 months of Reddit gold for free from being a paid Alien Blue member.

Wish the app was on my iPad, though.

Maybe I screwed up by starting Reddit 3 years ago on Alien Blue instead of the website. Alien Blue is Reddit for me. This new app is lightweight. I almost compare this to Tweetie being bought out by Twitter and then destroyed.

If I've already downloaded Alien Blue, can I redownload it from the app store if I remove it from my device?

Does them pulling it have the effect that it will vanish from my purchases?

I just did that. Download alien blue from my purchase, updated it back to pro and logged in and still no gold.

You had to claim it in-app and the window to claim it has now passed. The best you can do is email reddit with proof of purchase and see if they'll manually grant it to you.

The promotion is for people who had pro in the new version of the app, i.e. after Reddit took over Alien Blue in 2014. There was a brief period there when Reddit gave away Pro for free because they couldn't transfer it between the two different versions of the app.

My understanding is if you bought Pro in the pre-Reddit version of the app but didn't buy it or take up the free offer when Reddit released the new version you aren't eligible anyway.

I'll have to see how this compares to antenna (formerly 'amrc'). Hard to imagine something can make reddit'ing easier, but a look won't hurt.

Update: Seems ok, but sticking with antenna. I find the swiping left/right far easier to get around.
Antenna's speed and sharing options can't be surpassed. It's just too much awesome. I'm sticking with Antenna for sure

From a quick run through I can only see things that I dislike.
  • There is no easy way to preview videos and images (long press in alien blue).
now if I only knew about this for the past few years

I just started using Antenna because of this news. I was fairly happy with Alien Blue but decided it was time to find alternatives, since it won't be maintained anymore and was hardly updated anyway. I've been using Antenna for less than a day, and I can already tell I'll be happier with it than I was with Alien Blue. Now I'm just wondering why I didn't move to AMRC/Antenna earlier.

the world is US only again...
Trust me, that's a good thing, as you're not missing out on anything.

What is everyone liking about this over Alien Blue?

From a quick run through I can only see things that I dislike.
  • There is no easy way to preview videos and images (long press in alien blue).
  • Even when going to the page, all of optimized content views are gone.
  • There is no more gallery view
  • The comment editor doesn't give you any way to preview formatting
  • Voting arrows are inline. They take up room and increase the chance of accidentally downvoting stuff as you're just scrolling.
it seems super basic at this point and I can't really see the advantage over just using the redesigned mobile site.
Don't forget no landscape orientation or iPad support.

Trust me, that's a good thing, as you're not missing out on anything.

in this case you are right. but in general, there are still many apps on US only. It is really a hassle having to switch store all the time just to download them.

I downloaded the new app just to get the free gold... then went back to Alien Blue.... No iPad and no landscape support is a problem. The new app looks fine on my phone.... but is terrible to use on the iPad mini.

Until further notice, I still believe BaconReader is the best reddit app. I have tried many and this one works out much better for me and I can use it on all of my operating systems including iOS and android.

Agreed, this has been my favorite out of all of them. It's minimal, clean, intuitive, chock full of options, and they are continually improving. Reddit should've just bought them out instead of creating their own. Alien Blue always seemed a bit clunky. They also looked like crap before the redesign.

I tried this one, but I still prefer BaconReader.........but maybe I can get use to narwhal since I just noticed it works in split screen....

I'm not on Reddit, although I've long heard about it. But what makes it so special? What would make me more inclined to post in that "forum" than say here? I don't understand its appeal.

It's a great time waster. I've found in some cases it's better than following people/companies on Twitter to get info/updates on things. Also, if you're a fan of forums in general, you'll likely find some areas of reddit to play around in.
