Although it does have discussion forums, the layout and all IMO are less geared toward forum type discussion than sites like MacRumors. It is more geared toward the discovery of popular/new information in whatever "subReddit" you are in. So if you find an interesting article on say caffeine, you can post it to maybe a science subreddit, then if enough other Reddit members upvote your story it moves up to the front page where more people see it and comment. Typically after a day or so the story drifts off the front page and dies.I'm not on Reddit, although I've long heard about it. But what makes it so special? What would make me more inclined to post in that "forum" than say here? I don't understand its appeal.
It is very diverse. There are some pretty horrible porn type subreddits and some very very interesting science and history subreddits. And everything in between. Also some very entertaining subreddits with funny pictures of peoples dogs and cats. You can find a subreddit or about anything you can imagine. I think the demographic in general leans very liberal and is young, so that shapes the stories that move to the top somewhat. I have an account there and only subscribe to areas that interest me and filter out the rest, so it makes it a good place to just casually browse for interesting articles or discussions. Plus who does not like funny dog and cat pictures.
