Haha, fair enough.

I just don't "get" the desire for always on. When I raise my wrist the display comes on, and when I lower it, it goes off. I don't have a watch for others to see the time, so don't get why always on is a big deal.
I found it very unpredictable, especially when riding my mountain bike. I also like to glance at my watch to see the time which wasn't possible with the Apple Watch.

It also looks dull and boring with the blank screen, which probably bothers me more than others because I love traditional watches and have worn them most of my life.

Yeah aside from any buggy annoyances with the "raise", it's mostly for aesthetic reasons. A mechanical watch will have a constant face.

I'm telling you guys, while it is a smart device, people still expect it to perform traditional watch functions; which includes aesthetics and fashion. The screen when off looks very dull indeed.

4:48 into the video it speaks about Apple's patent for a round Apple watch design. I'm not sure if this was filed before or after the release of the apple watch, but the fact is it is still something that is on apple's mind in regards to possible designs.

As it is stated many times. Apple is awarded hundreds of patents every year that never see the light of day. So not be so sure.

So that means it's likely to be a successor. I'd guess we'll get both options at some point.

I don’t. I don’t see Apple venturing on a round watch anytime soon. Is it a possibility, yes. Is it something Apple will do as long as Jony Ive is leading? Probably not. He even commented himself that “When a huge part of the function is lists, a circle doesn’t make any sense.”

I hadn't worn my Apple watch for six months but on a whim decided to put it on this morning for a change. After around half a hour and the fifth unsuccessful glance at a blank screen I'd had enough and it's gone back into the drawer again. :(

Personally, I think there is a massive desire for an always on screen.....

I've just come back from a 2 week pool/beach holiday abroad - I didn't take my 42mm, Series 0 Apple Watch with me as it would be impossible wearing it and keeping it charged around the swimming pool and on the beach without my phone nearby + I would be too scared of damaging it, larking about in the pool with the kids!!

However, I did take, my old faithfull Pebble Time Steel watch, and boy, did I love wearing that again (I keep this purely to wear on holidays! Pic below is from a previous holiday) - over 1 and a half week battery life (watch was on day and night), always on display, tracked my steps and sleep without the need to be connected to a phone, and was swim proof - the thing was awesome and just looked great in the sun with its always on display

Granted, if the Apple Watch could also somehow manage on always on display, I think loads of people would love it!!

I believe your watch is a first Gen watch, Six months being in the drawer likely had the battery fully depleted, which isn’t healthy for it. That Could easily been part of the problem why your watch was experiencing issues.

It had actually been sitting on the Apple charging dock in the spare room gathering dust so "back in the drawer" was me metaphorically speaking. :)

The battery is ok and it wasn't experiencing any issues, it was just behaving like an Apple Watch. :D

I've been using my Apple Watch 3 primarily as a sleep tracker. When I wake up throughout the night to check the time, I have to tap the screen multiple times just to wake it up. I think an always-on screen would be a great improvement.

I get what you are saying to a point. However, you are discussing a Series 0 which is under-powered both CPU and battery-wise, has a 3 year old battery, and not waterproof. ;)

I think he probably wants the always on screen to be featured in the new updated Apple Watch. I don't think it would ever be added to any of the currently available Apple Watches as they weren't designed for it.

Dumb question - but always on screen = burn in? Or not? Not going to claim to be a display expert by any means.

Not a dumb question at all. That is maybe one of the reasons why Apple has not implemented and always on display because of the potential of image retention. At least that’s what’s been speculated. And OLED is susceptible to burn in. Some members have random had burn in with their Apple Watches, but it’s been rare.

I have to imagine that is the biggest concern that they have not done it. Thanks for the response!

Aside from the simplicity and well execution of the band port, I think Apple established the _perfect_ sizes with the 38 and 42 mm display. The 42 mm display not being too large, but not too small, it’s just right in the median for not being to obtrusive on the wrist. The problem you have with the smart watches like the Moto, LG Urbane or android wear, sometimes the displays are comically large on a wrist, and it just looks completely awkward.

I couldn't have said this better myself. Apple did great in sizing and shaping their watches. When I see someone with a big circular smart watch, I kind of laugh to myself because they look pretty gaudy to me, whereas the Apple Watch looks smooth and more natural.

Those fake, wannabe mechanical watch faces look awful in my opinion! Even if I had the option on my Apple Watch, I would never use one of these.

I can make it look as elegant as I want when I dress up or really sporty when I’m dressed down or working out. Good thing I get options to make it as simple looking as the Apple Watch. I get tons of compliments and people thinking it’s a mechanical watch.

And I believe that Android watch performs on Tizen, Which is laggy and stuttery.
