Because Touch Bar is terrible. Anyone who knows how to type is looking at the screen, not the keyboard. But it is impossible to use the Touch Bar without looking at it. And since no pressure is required to press the “keys” on the Touch Bar, high speed typists are constantly accidentally triggering touchbar functions by merely brushing it with stray fingers. So it actually makes the computer *worse* for a lot of people - we can’t even pretend the touchbar doesn’t exist.
Yup. I had to get the MX keys to use my 2018 MBP.

I can’t even begin to imagine how wildly your hands have to flail for your fingers to hit stuff off the keyboard completely

I don't type like a muppet. LOL. But I do hit the top of the keys and just the tips of my fingers are enough to set the bar off.

My original plan was to find that Kermit typing GIF, but he's on a typewriter, and the cat on a Mac one came up, so it seemed more appropriate.

Am I really the only person in the world who actually likes the Touch Bar?

Much like the idea of the iPhone replacing physical buttons depending on app context - it's actually useful when compared to a row of utterly useless buttons marked "F". I don't understand the hatred, or why Apple are caving

simply because people don’t like change, and Federighi showed off its most useless and laughable feature emoji. This from their lead software developer n chief. That in itself was just plain idiotic. D

I think touch at was great.

I dropped my late 2014 MBP the other day (first time) and its cracked the screen slightly, very lucky considering how far it fell. She just needs to last another 3/4/5/6 months.

Sidenote: How the feck Apple decided that gluing the glass to the screen was a good idea is beyond me. $800 to repair the crack. The Laptop was $3500 brand new, given it was the top spec, it still works perfectly and was probably worth $500ish to the right person, now its more or less worthless. Previous generation glass replacement is about $40. Thanks Apple!

Nobody mentions the pro motion screen aka 120 hz screen when they talk about the new miniled screens, that is way more interesting to me than a brighter screen, it's not like the macbook pro screen is awful :'(

When I saw M1 MBPs appearing on Apple's refurb site this week, I'd actually been wondering what the "try to ignore the touchbar" usage scenario is like. I've only played around with it briefly in the Apple Store, but hearing this I really want to avoid it.

Before you dismiss the it outright, look at some of the TouchBar utilities like BetterTouchTool, Pock, and HapticTouchbar to get an idea of how much it can be customized. There are some to help avold accident inputs like when you are furiously typing at break-neck speeds.

In late 2017 I bought a slightly extravagant 15" MacBook Pro, because it was the last model they were offering with MagSafe, without the TouchBar, and pre-butterfly keys. The excuse I made for throwing that wad of cash was that the 2016-era designs were so wrong but so pervasive that I thought it might be another half a decade or more before Apple made another laptop I'd consider worh buying.

Looks Apple got the message from me and a lot of people like me.
This is the way. Late 2013 Pro 13 checking in with the same sentiment

I was hoping for an Intel version... you know... something to keep me warm next winter 🤣
I still own the cutting board I bought to go under my old polycarbonite MacBook to keep my legs from getting burnt. I'd leave it open overnight sometimes and find my cat sleeping on it because it was so nice and toasty.

I had a first-gen 12" MacBurn Pro; when dealing with customer service Apple tried to claim that the heat was fine because they never said people should use laptops on their laps. :D

If they are adding hdmi I seriously hope its standard not mini hdmi. if its mini you would have a port that basically still needs an adapter and it would be no different than having a usb c port with a dongle on it for hdmi. also I hope they add a USB A port to eliminate adapters entirely. Unfortunately with apples obsession to make things as thin as possible I have a feeling even if we do get an hdmi port it will end up being mini and we will still end up needing a dongle. just a different kind.
I think adding a mini HDMI would be a mistake, unless Apple absolutely has to add an alternative display output (e.g. due to limitations running more than display via TB3/DisplayPort), and also can't accept making the square section of the body thicker.

I'm not sure about USB-A, especially if they replace a TB3/USB-4 connector to have this. I would rather have the option of a 40Gbps multi-function connector (display, network, data, power) than a 5Gbps data port based on a connector standard that will be replaced in "a few years". I agree that the adapters are a pain, but they are cheap enough to just leave them connected to all your devices and cables.

Next step reverse back to OS X 10.6 design
10.6.8....oh yeah...still have installed in one of my old caviar boot drives....solid rock OS with fond memories....ahhh.
And bring back Oscar the Grouch trash icon...it's what made Macs so cool popping out of the can saying "I love it because it's trash!"
Hopefully Tim will dig back in time to give back to us some treasured features in Mac OS we loved so much.

I seem to recall they even pushed away from using the term "laptop" and toward "portable computer" or some such. They were pretty nice to use in the winter though.

If the new macbook pro will include a usb-a port and an ethernet port, in addition to usb-c and hdmi, that would be perfect. Customers are not asking for the impossible, but just for what have been deprived from them since the disappearance of the magsafe

I remember when people felt deprived by the lack of an optical drive in the Retina MBPs.

Ethernet is tricky because of the size of the connector. I think Apple was too hasty in removing the USB-A ports in previous models but the timing may be right now. USB-A to USB-C dongles are small and cheap now and many devices are moving to USB-C from both USB-A and micro-USB.

Separately, Chinese leaker DuanRui says the New 14/16" MBPs will look much the same with thinner bezels and hinting that there will be no M1X, just an M1.

usb-c to usb-a dongles were always small and cheap. 3 for $5 kind of deals since at least late 2016.
