i already bought two chromecasts (hate them) and a Fire TV Stick (love it) by now. all i am asking for is a UI overhall on my Apple TV doesnt even need to be a new box.

Apple is really late to the whole streaming partaay

Funny enough I feel the exact opposite way about my Chromecasts and FireTV stick. Granted you have to use your phone for the Chromecast, but my fire stick has been very slow and unresponsive. Really wanting a new Apple TV though. My aTV2 was good to me, but it's been collecting lots of dust recently

This bites... What value is Tim Cook actually bringing to the Apple table? Redesigned UIs? Hardware upgrades? Slimmer form factors? More interoperability between products? These are not visionary contributions in my opinion. So they have an insanely priced watch and a Macpro shaped like a flower vase. What the hell has this company done since Jobs passed away besides screw up my Wifi for entirely too long...?

Apple products no longer "just work" the way they used to. While the iCloud features/functions keep them relevant in the marketplace, overall Apple products are losing their intuitive nature due to overly complex and unneccesary interoperability. Form factor enhancements are being done at the expense of upgradeable parts and UI enhancements are just part of the game.

The watch is... well... not visionary in my opinion. The idea of a watch that can make calls has been part of science fiction and such for 50-60+ years. We just finally have adequate technology to do it.

The television.. that's another story. The entire market is in a state of "which way to go?" From content to human interface. Apple has absolutely dropped the ball like I can't believe possible, given the resources they have available to them.

Maybe they don't announce a new piece of hardware... maybe they announce an SDK and app store. Necessary, yes, but they are playing us for fools at this point. They are so good at marketing and managing very minor enhancements to their other platforms that keeps us drinking the Kool-Aid but they are sh*tting the proverbial bed with Apple TV. More channels that require a cable subscription to view any worthwhile content are not enhancements. its chicken feed.

The Kool-aid in my Apple cup is starting to evaporate.

That's not even close to what I said. But yes, I am sure there is hard balling going on as Apple probably looks like that scene in The Dark Knight with the joker sitting on the pile of money. My point is the resources are there for this to not take that long.

And my point is that you are DEFINITELY looking at negotiations in a Dark Knight/Joker sense, rather than one based in reality WHATSOEVER, if you think that having more money in some way speeds up negotiations. Why would it??
UNLESS you seriously haven't a care in the world how much you pay & would eagerly sign to any amount of money, no matter what. I wonder, in this scenario, how then you would've amassed the money in the first place... being so frivolous? I would posit that having more money makes negotiations take LONGER, not shorter... as the people on the other side of the table are certainly aware how deep your pockets are & want to get as much of it as they can.
There are no "resources" there to expedite this... as "resources" are actually what they're negotiating for. They don't have the resources to offer a streaming tv service. All they can do is send out Eddie Cue, with his wit and his checkbook, to try & hammer out deals. I'm sure these deals have a LOT of subtleties with regards to number of years, premium shows exclusivity windows, etc.
Obviously I want it happen as soon as possible too!!! But I understand that these negotiations have been going on for months and months and months, and that nobody is more eager to get them sewn up than Apple, & that posting the equivalent of "Apple must be slacking or not care about these deals, because they aren't yet solidified", is preposterous.

Pretty soon the channels will come begging as people continue to dump cable like a bad sandwich.

Who will they beg and why? There are dozens of devices for streaming (TVs, set top boxes, video game consoles, blu-ray players, phones, tablets, etc.,.) and the channels/networks will cast as broad a net as possible in order to reach the largest audience possible. These companies will go direct to consumers, just like people keep wanting them to. They aren't beholden to Apple as middle man.

I'm going to laugh so damn hard when they reveal the new Apple TV on stage. My bet is they let it slip that the Apple TV got pulled and it spread like wildfire through the media.

Anyone else notice how we haven't seen a single photo leak of the new ATV? I think Apple's finally learned how to manage their "leaks", and why the media couldn't know if they pulled the ATV hardware unless Apple wanted them to know that.

No reason to be upset about no Apple TV, that is just Apple being Apple. First and foremost, Apple needs to grow. It won't grow, in the TV market, without content. That makes the hardware, which is dumb simple to design at this point, a low priority. Apple is about marketing and they won't take the next step without a big marketing splash. No splash, no need to upgrade the hardware.

Apple has content, in the form of the iTunes Store. The alleged streaming deals of are no use to the vast majority of ATV users, and I doubt the take up within the U.S. will be as big as some think. I'd think there'd be more revenue from having an App Store and pushing more content from iTMS, seeing as it's available to a wider audience.

Did you see the article here on the premium streaming market share? Apple users are the ones spending more than half of all money in this space. They may not beg, and I think @Black Belt isn't painting an entirely accurate picture of how the cable industry works, but Apple is the largest player in this fast growing premium streaming market (not bad for this segment "just being a hobby"), so they've definitely got the attention of the premium content rights holders.

It will be the same as the past last year.
2013 rumor ATV nothing in June, nothing in September and nothing in October events. Maybe next year then.
2014 rumor ATV nothing in June, nothing in September and nothing in October events. Maybe next year then.
2015 rumor ATV nothing in June, nothing in September and nothing in October events except a new iPhones and Ipads. Maybe next year then.
2016 rumor ATV nothing in February except a new Apple Watch, June, nothing in September and nothing in October events wait Apple updates there store that they are going to stop selling the old crappy ATV3 and it will go the way of the dotto like the iPod Classic and Touch.

I too am tired of them delaying this crap. The Apple TV is the only device I still use that is apple. I already moved over to Android for my phones and the Amazon Fire TV.

I'm the opposite, I bought two Chromecast and I love them. So much so that I've lost interest in the upcoming Apple TV. I was in the market for one last year, when there were rumors circulating that one would be releasing at WWDC 2014, then there's the rumours at the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 launch... I just got fed up with waiting.

Oh and Chromecast are DIRT cheap.;)

Well then complete the damn package and leave Apple for good. Good Gracious.

I just love how people say they're not interested in the Apple TV. But come here to post to tell us about it along with promoting an Apple competitor.

Huh!?! It's a apple discussion board and as an apple fan I'm contributing to the discussion:rolleyes:. I clearly stated I was in the market to buy one last year, so yes to a degree there is still a part of me that has some interest but not enough to put my life on hold to wait endlessly for one.

I did see that and I'm not meaning to imply that Apple is impotent in this area, just that are not nearly the 800lb gorilla in this situation like they were when the iTMS launched over a decade ago. Back then if you wanted to sell downloadable music over the Internet the only realistic game in town was Apple. Totally different situation these days for a number of reasons.

Great post. Once Sit Johnny took over all of the design responsibilities, it's as if - as in the case of iTunes, function follows form, not the other way around. They ruined a great product and no matter how much they tweak it, it's still a disaster compared to how it used to be.

It can't possibly be hardware issues?

I'm guessing software because these days, it's their weakest spot. A lot of people are having problems with iTunes content that they paid for, taking hours to upload to ATV and one theory is that the culprit is the latest iTunes update. I was having that problem, with est. times of anywhere from 1 hour to 7 hours to load a 50 minute TV program.

An "Apple Fan"? Hmm. How are you actually contributing to a discussion by saying you no longer have interest in the Apple TV but rather tell us you bought 2 Chromecasts?

For the love of GOD release a new Apple TV with an iTunes Server and Thunderbolt 3 storage (plus external storage and backup capability to cloud services and time machine), with ac wifi and 4k! Make it leading edge and it will overshadow the minimum spec ham-fisted competition.

I am ambivalent as far as streaming TV as I am tired of all the channel ******** anyway. As people like me continue dumping cable in droves they'll be begging for an outlet. The non-premium channels don't have the capital to create something sophisticated like HBO or Showtime so they are really between a rock and a hard place.

Give us apps (including Amazon Prime Video) and web ability and we'd be fine for now. The channels will come begging soon enough. If they were smart, they'd just remove the cable subscription requirement for their apps and fund with commercials.

You won't get an Amazon app because Apple wants us to buy and rent from iTunes, so you'll still have to have a work-around to get it. The same goes for Pandora, they want you use iTunes Radio, which is inferior IMO.

Damn it. I'm trying to get rid of Cable and was looking forward to the new Apple TV. I refuse to buy the current ancient Apple TV.

No new Apple TV at WWDC = Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV or Roku gets my money. Sorry Apple, but I'm not waiting until September/October.

Hopefully this rumor is false.

If your statement is correct, why is it the apps mentioned are on iPads and iPhones?
