This needs to be a time when the rumor(s) are wrong and they surprise us with an updated model anyway. If the apple TV update is not in this WWDC it seems to be a promise of a very boring announcement. Especially if iOS 9 is primarily bug fixes (though obviously very much needed, its not exciting)

well, it's only been how long? Sounds like Tim is going easy on his staff..... Jobs would have broken some heads open :p

All in all, it's good news. Like others have said, means a significant update is coming :)

Yeah, you would hope Apple would have *something* on the hardware side to show off. And no, I'm not counting the Apple Watch. ;)

Yea unless they spend more time talking about IOS 9 and OSX but again if there are not many new features they will not have much to talk about. Maybe the new Beats streaming service or maybe there is some other hardware they will show off, and no the Apple Watch doesn't really count it's already been released, unless they talk about the Watch software

I think everyone needs to breathe and remember Apple has not said they won't debut the new AppleTV, some undisclosed random source has said that.

While normally nothing is for sure, Apple added the AppleTV into the actual invite, yes the center of the invite has the exact shape and proportions of an AppleTV. So we will see AppleTV at the event. However, what this means probably is that as previously rumors have said, they haven't finalized the necessary deals with the TV networks for the TV streaming service. So the new AppleTV at the moment might not be as exciting as it would have been otherwise. So this may have been a controlled leak by Apple, so people will go from expecting a lot of the AppleTV, to not expecting one at all, and then be happy when one is announced (albeit let than what was originally anticipated.

Thank you for being intelligent and sane, unlike many in this post.

There are often small leaks like this in the few days leading up to an event, rumouring that an anticipated feature/product WON'T be unveiled after all.
I wonder if these are deliberate leaks by Apple, to reduce expectation and disappointment.
So yes, it seems like no new Apple TV next week. Shame...

I don't buy it. For the NYT, this is pretty unsupported. The reporter only says that according to two people briefed on the "product," it won't be announced. And it seems from that, he extrapolates that Apple TV hardware won't be announced, nor will a new Apple TV OS, nor anything else related to Apple TV. This seems like a far jump to me.

Even if AppleTV hardware isn't available for sale right away, it still might be announced. Even if new hardware isn't announced, a new OS and app store might be.

Moreover, it seems from the context, the "product" being referred to is actually Apple's rumored TV streaming service. So I would not automatically assume anything about hardware from this.

"Yet one much ballyhooed device will be absent..."

Nobody with any credibility ballyhooed anything, whatever that is. What a ridiculous concept/thread/report.

so would this mean Apple will have no hardware to show off :( at this rate all we are going to see is IOS 9 and OSX update, they have already updated the Mac's so I can't see what else they could show off hardware wise.
Actually, they will probably spend more time on the Apple Watch SDK update for the fall more than anything else. If they do, then it will be quite disappointing given the small number of actual Apple Watch users.

Noooooooo!!!!!!!! Cant believe it! Actually I'm not believing this rumor because a week before September, 9, 2014 there was a rumor of delay for Apple Watch but then it got announced, the only delay was the launch day. Apple TV coming in the Fall instead of Summer?

Maybe Apple pulls the same thing as they did with the Mac Pro (from 2013). They announced and showed off the new trashcan Mac Pro at WWDC, but didn't release until December of that year.

Hopefully they at least show it off but don't release until the fall. (or ASAP!!!)

Good, Apple needs to step up its QA and make sure both hardware/software are polished properly before releasing them. I don't even care if it takes another year, get it right.

Yesterday I was starting to respect Tim Cook more due to his statement on privacy, now I'm back to wondering just WTF he is "running" or "managing" at Apple, exactly. His major talent so far seems to be giving people lots of rope to really 'f up the Apple product line and services.

Does this guy have a track record of accuracy with Apple rumors? Usually I don't start believing a rumor unless we get a 'Yep' from Jim Dalrymple.

WTF! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Just WOW, Apple! How many years does it take to update the Apple TV? And I was sooo hoping for it at WWDC because YouTube no longer works on my old model! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I know how you feel. I'm also desperately waiting for an upgrade as YouTube stopped working on my 2nd gen Apple TV. If the WWDC keynote goes by without any hints about the new model, I think I'll just go get myself a Nexus Player so I can get YouTube again and also a native Plex app. I'm currently using PlexConnect with my 2nd gen Apple TV but it's something I'd like to drop from my setup.
