I'll use this until Apple Maps catches up. I have a feeling that might take a while but as soon as Apple achieves some sort of parity it's bye bye Google.

Google has, what, billions of dollars and they can't afford a designer to make apps that don't look terribly ugly?

Also, how stupid are they? Making it require iOS6 when there's already a maps app on iOS6? Fail.

The people who criticized Apple didn't have a clue. The DATA was the issue, not the app, which is something that gets fixed with time (and could never have been flawless on day one). The client app itself ran circles around anything Google has ever created. And to this day, I still feel it does, especially when it comes to performance. Actions simply run smoother and more responsively, and it seems to use less energy than other Maps apps.

Yep. That's really all I'm waiting, is for Apple to overhaul the data in its Apple Maps. Possible once they actually acquire (or license from) some small company that has a reputation for providing an accurate map database.

What's so ugly about it? The design is clean, well designed, easy to navigate, and to the point. There's nothing "ugly" about it. Any confusion you might have is likely due to you being used to doing certain things in a certain way in Apple Maps, and you're not able to segue directly over into Google without a bit of confusion.

...though I do kinda have to agree with the guy above me. Just like the phone rev on my iPhone 4, the tablet version is a little chunkity on my iPad 3. It's not unusable, but it could be a helluva lot better.

The version 2 has vastly improved the UI IMO.

Thank you Google for you're Application!

Hello to all. Usually, I don't spend time posting comments, but today, I felt the need to do it!

I don't know how it is in America, but, here in Europe, we only spend money when we need to.

I don´t trust / like the Apple's Proprietary Maps Application. Some time ago, I've bought the TOMTOM / Garmin Applications; they complement each other. That's what I was using, until now.

Today, I've downloaded the new Google Maps and cached (in satellite view), all my country. Now, I've the best offline GPS application for my needs. Waiting for the Google Music Play Application to show up.

Thank you very much Google, for this great free Application! Good holidays to all.

Best regards,

Xanix

Anyone else noticing that when in satellite mode that once you zoom out, not even to city-wide, that it stops drawing any roads? I like to be able zoom out and be able to at least see the interstates drawn. The older version had this.

I wish I could zoom out with one hand.

You can zoom with just one finger! Double tap and swipe. ;-)

Just loaded up Apple Maps for the first time in ages - it still has multiple POIs in the wrong location near my previous address (SW London) despite reporting several of them when it was first released.

You can fix the data yourself using Mapmaker if it bothers you.

You're in an Apple forum. Why don't you go to the Xbox forum and complain people are loyal to their Xbox. Or the BMW forum and complain people are loyal to BMW. What do you expect? Go away.

What?? This makes no sense. Aren't these forums also an avenue for diagnosing problems? Are we not to critique anything now?

Personally, if I had to get from London Bridge to Victoria Street I'd get on the tube. Depending on which side of the river you are it's either the Circle/District Lines or Jubilee with a quick change at Westminster. Either way much quicker than walking or fighting the traffic around Borough and Elephant and Castle.

I'm using the new Google Maps for iOS (iPad) and it looks exactly like the beta version that runs on desktop computer browsers and the current Android version. Even the navigation is the same, too.

Hooray! I used to love just browsing Streetview on my iPad. Glad I'll be able to do it once again.

I hope iOS7 lets us select default apps. If I can fully remove Apple Maps, or even just hide it away I'll be very happy.

I downloaded Google Maps for iPad this morning, and was not impressed. It was slow and clunky on my iPad 3rd gen. I'll be sticking with Apple Maps.

What ISN'T ugly about it? I realise it's subjective but I've found pretty much all of Google's apps to look like they just slapped a bunch of tables on there, printed out the content, and said "ok, it's finished".

Apple Maps still doesn't have its act together, but will reroute when you can't follow its directions. Google Maps has excellent data, but cannot reroute. BlackBerry Maps on my Q10 has great data and rerouting, but is brain dead when it comes to business names.

"... Even in the future, nothing works!"

Google maps reroutes just fine. Am I missing something?

Yes, and Siri's voice is god awful. Rude and can't pronounce anything right. pfffft.

This I WILL agree with. One day we were using Google Maps for turn by turn in the car, and even my 6 year old commented that he liked the voice in Google Maps better because Siri sounds like a robot.

Fortunately, Apple has already fixed this for iOS 7.

It's funny how much Google (or even users) criticized Apples maps at launch and put Google Maps on this pedestal, and now we see Google copying some elements from Apples Maps design. Mainly, the design for points of interest on the map tiles, as well as the live incident reports icons on the map. It's starting to look a whole lot more like Apples client app.

You cannot be serious? Is it opposite day where you live?
