Can I use the same Apple Pencil 2 for my iPad Pro and maybe a future mini? Or would I need to disconnect each time?
This mini looks very interesting when I don’t want to lug my iPad Pro 12”

Apart from no silver option… my OCD will go crazy if that’s my only odd device
I may be wrong and I'll find out soon when I get mine, but I think it is still Silver. It's just a little warmer silver rather than the traditional more grey-ish silver. We shall see.

I call straight BS. My iPad Pro has 0 issues keeping ANY apps open.

There’s no such thing as keeping apps open since iPadOS 14 limits background time to at most 1 minute. Down from 2 minutes and 7 minutes with older versions. It restores a screenshot when restoring app with static content to foreground so it looks transparent but dynamic content will reload. To see for yourself, go to https://www.time.gov/ with browser, put in background, wait 5 secs, restore to foreground and watch it reload. Works properly on other OS’ MacOS, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, Android, etc.

I think it will just keep re-pairing to bluetooth every time you switch.

Pass. My 10.5 iPad Pro from 2017 has 4GB ram. Its okay, but many apps won’t stay active in background with 4GB unlike the Pro's 8/16.
I suspect they did this because of the form factor and it’s meant more for single tasks unlike a larger multitask iPad.

This is the iPad to beat now. Pair it with a cheap external monitor, BT keyboard and Magic Trackpad and you have a mobile office workhorse. Ordered Purple, my first non-black or white electronic device potentially ever.

Would have preferred 8GB of RAM tho. But still, it'll do.

If you’re going to pair it with all those accessories just buy a Mac mini for a bit more and enjoy 1000x the productivity.

iPad mini is the truly portable iPad. For me, tying it down with anything more than a pencil and slim case is missing the point.

4GB is barely enough for shipped iPadOS but will be a pain point for future iPadOS updates. For $649 for the 256GB it should come with 8GB but that would cannibalize the iPad Pro but at least compromise on 6GB. Greedy penny squeezing Tim Cook ruining new product launches.

On the other side of the spectrum we have iPad Air 2 with its 2GB of RAM, which is meant to support iPadOS 15.

Dumb question; if they've swapped the port to be a USB-C presentation is it now at Thunderbolt 4 speed or is it still at the USB2 speed of the old Lightning connector?
The slowest USB-C port on an iPad is 5Gbps (new mini and Air), the fastest is 10Gbps (iPad Pro 2018/2020) with the 2021 iPad Pro being the fastest port overall using 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3.

My 2017 12.9” iPad Pro has the same CPU/GPU and DRAM as his 10.5” iPad Pro and I have zero issues with zippiness or keeping multiple apps open. People are just looking to have something to bitch about. This happens every single time Apple releases new hardware. Every. Single. Time.
