I lug a a big honkin' 14" to and from work daily. I would totally get this...
...but I can't since I use two external displays
Same as me. Why can't they just have the use of two monitors !!! The previous version did :-( frustrating. Great form factor, size, everything but the limit of monitors is annoying as well as not being. Able to jump to 32gb ram but that's something else.

I would argue its actually bigger overall.

I could have sworn the presentation indicated the same battery life of 18 hrs video playback. I expect real world tests to confirm or contradict with video and other scenarios.

OK, might just be a MR typo when it said 8 hours.

The price point is waaaaaaay to high.
In 2022 you want to buy from a company that can get components. I bought a non Apple laptop a few months ago to save $. Issue with a USB port a few months later. Sent in for warranty. They (LG) can’t get their own logic boards. They had to send me a check 6 weeks later for full amount. It’s crazy out there. Get an Apple. Especially for that mag-safe connector and heavy duty USB-C ports.

I'll miss the wedge design, but I know why they did away with it. Non-Mac users (ie. would-be customers) would dismiss it as "underpowered". The new Air design looks more like a traditional, full-featured laptop.

Someone explain the difference here between the ports on the MBP 14/16 machines?

New MBA M2 *and* 13 MBP M2, quote:

vs.

14/16 MBP M1 Pro/Max, quote:

https://www.apple.com/uk/macbook-pro-14-and-16/specs

The 14/16 MBP's don't have "USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)" compared to the new M2 machines

WEIRD...?
USB 3.1 Gen 2 doesn’t exist. It was renamed to USB 3.2 Gen 2 a few years ago. Thunderbolt 4 has USB 4 by definition.

Woah, looks Paper Thin! It almost looks like it's matte black. It honestly looks stunning. I just wish it had came in size 15-inch.

Bring this color to the MacBook Pro 14" and 16", please.
I really want a cheaper 15-inch or 16-inch MacBook option. I honestly don't even care if it's not a Pro; I just want a bigger screen!

CNET photographer James Martin shared photos of the new MacBook Air in Midnight on Twitter. Depending on the lighting, the color looks like a mix of navy blue and space gray. While some rumors suggested the new MacBook Air would feature a white keyboard, the keys are in fact black, and the Midnight-colored chassis is visible between the keys. The keyboard retains full-size function keys and a Touch ID button for authentication.

Tech journalist Nobi Hayashi tweeted photos of the Silver and Starlight color options, with the latter appearing to be a champagne-like gold.

The new MacBook Air features Apple's all-new M2 chip with an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU, a brighter 13.6-inch display with a notch, MagSafe charging, a 1080p camera, a fanless design, two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left side, a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones, four speakers, three microphones, and more. The notebook can be configured with up to a 2TB SSD and up to 24GB of unified memory.

The new MacBook Air will be available next month, but no specific date has been provided by Apple. Pricing will start at $1,199 in the United States, and the previous-generation MacBook Air with the M1 chip will remain available for $999.

Lost its soul by not being a wedge …. Now it’s just a MacBook really.
A MacBook Air wasn’t specifically only to be wedge only. Just like the originals ports were not always set in stone to be behind a hidden cover. It’s design purpose was and Wally’s will be the thinnest, lightest full keyboard portable laptop computer ! Simple. Not a netbook.

By this mythos it’s soul is intact and still beating healthy and strong!

Immediately after the WWDC 2022 keynote, Apple invited the media to a hands-on demo area for the new MacBook Air, which features an overhauled design with a slightly larger display, a notch, flatter edges, and new Starlight and Midnight color options.

I was looking for three things: M2, colors, and losing the “Air” from the name. I got one and a half of those. Really on the fence here.
