BestBuy is already having a sale of $300 off on both 12in models. The gold one is the only one in stock for the base model. Looks like they are clearing inventory. I should return the one I purchased 2 weeks ago and wait for the refresh.

Wonder if they will wise up and add more ports or just upgrade internals.
Unlikely that they'll add ports IMHO. It's not apparent where they'd have room for them without changing the size, and it seems counter to Apple's aim for that device.

You can't get next-day shipping on Apple's website for the 12" MacBook either, while every other Mac you can.

Cool good news.

I wish Apple would simplify there line up.

Rebrand the Current Macbook as Macbook Air and kill the current Macbook Airs, release a 14" macbook with less bezel so it remains the roughly the size of the 13" Pro. Same thing for the Macbook Pro. Make it only a 16" model in the footprint of the 15" of today.

Macbook Air 12" (Fanless, entry level)
Macbook 14" (Thinner but not as thin as current macbook with roughly the same footprint as the current 13" Pro)
Macbook Pro 16" (Same footprint but a little thinner then the current 15" Pro. Two models. One with high end intergrated graphcis and another with dedicated.)

I would buy that 14" in a heartbeat.

I fear Apple is going back to the 90's era with to many product lines and devices. It should really be simplified.

Macbook Air
Macbook
Macbook Pro

Mac Mini
iMac
Mac Pro

iPad Mini
iPad (Drop the Air moniker or give it to the mini)
iPad Pro

iPhone Mini/Air/SE
iPhone
iPhone Pro/Plus

Thank you, this is exactly what I said in another thread. When Steve came back in the late 90s he took a convoluted product line and simplified it down to 4 products. I realize we now have the iPhone, iPad, iWatch, etc. now, but still, it does appear to be getting more and more confusing as of late.

Come on Apple, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!

Ultimately (possibly this year) I'd expect Thunderbolt through the USB-C port and Lightning replacing the headphone port. If the iPhone is going to lose the headphone port, you can expect Macs to as well. It makes sense to start with the MacBook, as you'd actually be increasing connectivity options

I think after the population's reaction to yesterday's lack-luster performance, Apple's under even more pressure to release meaningful products soon. Look at the notebook buyer's guide - nearly everyone is do-not-buy...

The problem with your proposal is a MacBook costs a lot of money. A lot, especially compared with an MBA. Not having something like the MBA (reasonable connectivity, performance and price while still very light) would destroy apple's education market.

Regarding a skylake MacBook, it should have been released months ago. Of course it's a silent update because at this point it's embarrassing. Wall Street is right. Apple is an iPhone company.

[…]but it is not known if those machines are in the MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air family.

Judging by the way they've overcomplicated the iPad lines, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all three. :p

As others have pointed out, they are falling back into the trap they were in in the late 80s and early 90s. Mind boggling product lineups that few can understand or explain to customers, overpriced hardware that is behind the competition, and an increasingly lackluster operating system.

Something new but equally alarming is how the executives behave as though they're running for public office rather than running a company.

Get it together, Apple. You're beginning to look ridiculous.

Ooh! This is the Apple product I'm most excited for. More than the iPad Pro and iPhone 7!

I thought the current version was a little over priced and underspvced. I can't wait for a faster rMB, with Thunderbolt 3 and 4K support, and a new Thunderbolt display.

Yes, you should. Don't they usually give you 14 days?

As someone waiting for a Skylake refresh, this is awesome news!

Silent refresh in the next month would be dope

Edit: I do wish there was a 14in model though. About to snag the 9.7 iPad Pro, so there's a lot of crossover between that and a 12in with my usage =\

A good lineup imo would be this :
MacBook (12")
MacBook Pro (14 and 16 in the same footprint as 13 and 15" and thinner)

iPad (7.9" iPad mini rebranded "iPad")
iPad Pro (9.7" and 12.9")

So they just discontinue MacBook Air and iPad Air and they must cut the price of the MacBook 12.
