Apple has no clue what to do with the PC market since Jobs passed away. (RIP) since then that have gone nothing but backwards.

Laptops are phones or tablets we don't want them razer thin we want them comfortable but powerful. We don't want 15 hours of battery live 6-8 is perfectly fine if the internals justify it. They just don't have a clue.

...And just have no idea what they are doing.
MacBooks sell like hotcakes. I ask at every Apple Store I visit. They do have 8 hour or better battery life - isn't that your parameter? You want them to make it thicker with a lot of empty space?

Apple seems to know what they are doing with computers. At least they are not shrinking computer sales like every other manufacturer.

Yeah, store sales staff are really likely to turn around and say "these things sell terribly, have have a 50% return rate."

Well, this is a rumor site so I guess you are allowed to imagine stuff. Even if it goes against published industry sales.

Safe to say no Mac Pro?

I doubt we'll see a refresh till Apple gets an Intel chipset that can handle a proprietary 5K display; I'd imagine they're tired of hawking other company's displays. The fact is that the Mac Pro is a niche device, and most people that want them and can afford them already have them. I'd wager they'll wait another year, maybe even two, before doing a refresh.

Very happy with my 2015 MB and not looking at spending a few hundreds more in exchange rate $ for really invisible speed increases. What I need instead is an OS that actually works when I patch it ;) That's right, I'm talking to you 10.11.4!

Sadly that may happen.

Too bad,the retina Macbook needs more than that..
seems like Apple is insisting on keeping the 12 inch Macbook a neutered, limited, and underpowered product.a fashion accessory instead of a real functionial Mac.
such a shame.

I reckon it's about resetting the price point for the MBA type product. They can't just increase the price of the consumer laptop and continue calling it the MBA as we'd say they're raising the prices. Instead, they're resetting the price point with a replacement consumer product that fixes the issues that make the MBA long in the tooth. I think they'll just let the MBA 2015 model linger like the MBP 2012 with CD ROM drive, lowering the price every so often, until the market dwindles.

I think Apple Marketing is very smart at psychology.

Not just in the US.

To me, it's not relevant when it will be released, but when it will actually be in stores to try out (and be in stock).
Last time, that took months.

Isn't that just because it's a new form factor with startup manufacturing teething problems? If the rumor of the rMB gen 2 being pulled from March keynote has any truth to it then chances are there are warehouses of the new rMB gen 2 already so I reckon they'll have stock when it's announced.

I'd consider the rMP if it has at least 2 ports. Type C port + a USB 3.0 would be the right balance.

Maybe reduce the battery size to increase the logic board since the Skylake Intel M is able to compensate for the smaller battery size.

As type C peripherals become more common [in 10 years?], then drop USB 3.0 ports.

Apple is leaking like a sieve, and yet they keep informing customers "We can't reveal anything"

If Apple would just stop listing hints in to up-coming software/hardware in current logs, model numbers not out yet etc... then it "would" be a secret till the times comes.

I think after the population's reaction to yesterday's lack-luster performance, Apple's under even more pressure to release meaningful products soon. Look at the notebook buyer's guide - nearly everyone is do-not-buy...
Lackluster? It was an awesome keynote! Liam is an amazing piece of technology, and the work on health kit, and what it's doing for Parkinson's Disease

Wikipedia claims these processors were released six months ago. So why did Apple wait so long for an update? What could they have been waiting for? Hmmm, ... maybe denser RAM for a 16MB option, a higher capacity SSD, a better LCD?
How often has Apple updated its laptops after only six months? And since so many people here talk about simplicity of the line-up, updating each model as new processors become available instead of waiting until it can update multiple models at the same, will make other people unhappy.

Did you ever actually use it? I guess I know the answer. It is a fantastic piece of kit.

I wish Apple would just release two versions of (most of) its products, one that follows their current design principles and one that adds thickness to double the battery life, just to shut people like you up. Because you would suddenly be speechless when trying to explain why most people will still select the thinner and lighter version.

And in regard to Steve Jobs: Did Apple products really have longer battery life, both in absolute terms as well as compared to the competition?

Waited till the 21st, and no MBP 15 updates. So I ordered what they currently make (Mid 2015) with 512GB storage and 2.8GHz i7. This thing is freaking fast man. I just gave up my trusty old 17" MBP with an SSD. Smokes it. I'm sure the skylake chips will be better and of course TB3 ports would have been nice (nothing I can use it for though currently, my nMP is still TB2 anyway). I'm good now. Plus, it's MUCH lighter then my 17, and better resolution. Not to mention 2x the ram and 4x the drive speed, and at least 2x the GPU. Better battery life, etc.

Not gonna complain, this laptop is very good for all my needs.

If you actually talk to store staff you often get some honest answers. Also, the only place with a ridiculous return culture is the US. In most countries people don't buy stuff just to try it out and return it after a few days.

I wish they would use quad core CPUs in their Macbooks :(
Yup, fitting a 45 W TDP processor (Intel's current quad-core mobile processors) into a body designed to dissipate the heat from a 4.5 W TDP processor is just a question of just doing it.

This is depressing.

Will they ever release a MacBook Pro again?

Maybe they think the market share is too small and people only wanna browse facebook on their laptops?

These threads always frustrate me. Bottom line is always if you need a new computer buy one. If you don't then wait for the next great thing.

[...]

Again if you need a computer buy it if you don't then don't buy one. Very simple decision.

It's a simple decision if you live in a world where "what you need" is always such a clear-cut decision. For example, a couple weeks ago I was 1.5 hours away from leaving the house on a business trip, and my 2011 MBP wouldn't boot. In the end I had to bring my entire Drobo backup with me and spend 20 hours re-installing everything, twice, since my computer crashed again after that. Do I need a new computer? Maybe, but I figured I'd be putting almost as much time into configuring a new computer. I knew the new ones didn't give me much over what I already have, and less in some ways, and that new ones are coming "soon", so I waited.

When I bought the 2011, I was 4 days away from another business trip, and the graphics card went on my old one. Apple wouldn't fix it as they said it wasn't the graphics issue they were fixing. They were wrong, as it turns out after someone else with more time than me sued them and won. In that case, I NEEDED a new computer, and I just went in and bought what they had.

My point is that sometimes it's obvious that you need a new computer, but mostly it's an escalation from want -> probably should get -> this is getting really annoying -> literally cannot do my job without it.

I only have two days to decide if the $300 discount is worth the refresh... ugh so difficult. I wish they came out with it already

Apple usually will accept a return 30 days following the release of a new product upgrade. Seems like you could buy it now, get the discount, and then if they upgrade it within the next 30 days, you can just return it for the new model, and pay the difference.

Love my 12" Retina Macbook. I needed an ultra portable machine that I can still do fairly intensive photoshop editing and it's been an absolute joy. It never runs hot and chugs along for hours before needing to charge. The wifi is solid and transfer rates via 802.11AC have been comparable to wired gigabit.
After having carried around a 17" MBP in a backpack for years I sometimes forget I have this little workhorse in there. I could care less about video editing or gaming which I can do on my Mac Pro. This little 12" machine works nicely with my Crossover 4K monitor via usb-c to display port adapter when I need it to. I look forward to the 2017 version and not the 2016. The apple re-seller I bought this one from has 50% buy back if I sell it back to them within 2 years of purchase. :)

wrong guess.
Yes I used it a little bit, being a Macboor Pro owner and having used Macbook Air,I think I have a good idea.

there is nothing fantastic about it when it comes to functionality and considering the price.the CPU is indeed weak, but the biggest issue as everyone else already knows is lack of a USB port.

there is no way you can defend having only one port for both charging and other uses.
if you had ever used a Macbook or anyother laptop before,(real daily use,not just browsing facebook and casually reading websites) you would have known there are many situations where you need to charge your laptop AND use another USB device attached to it.
with this thing, you are out of luck.

there was no reason why they made such a stupid compromise,an additional USB port could be fitted with no problems.
The fact that the Retina Macbook wasn't a hit and that everyone is still waiting for an updated Macbook Air should be enough.

I personally know 2 avid Mac users who were awaiting this thing, and they were both forced to buy Surface product and switch to Windows ,because they needed not just portability and high res screen, but also a fully functional portable computer.
