So many people in here complaining it’s not enough of an upgrade over the M1 model.

Do you ever think, perhaps, that not everyone upgrades annually? That there are people with 2015 and 2017 Pros that might be waiting for a new model? Or, Tim forbid, even an older model like the soon to be obsolete Air 2? Or maybe they just want a new model so the M1 models get marked down?

I recognize that for many the youniverse is really hard to escape. Give it a try.

For those people the current M1 models would be a massive upgrade, and those are available now at $100-200 off MSRP depending on model and specs, so no need to wait for a new model for them to get marked down.

For the rest of us who can easily upgrade more frequently, we want a reason to do so. Not a tough concept, sport.

I'm still waiting for my 12.9 M1 Pro to become Pro.......
Been using mine lately in clinic. The EHR/EMR virtual machine software works surprisingly well and within that software the cursor turns in to a classic triangle pointer style and makes the iPad interface much more precise feeling. I’ll always have a Mac but my portable device will likely be an iPad Pro with accessories.

The one big obvious thing with new ipads is the price drop on the last generation. And seeing how iPadOS isn't pushing the hardware, buying the previous model is the smart money (and still be in the M family).

I’m sorry for your tragic suffering that you can’t get a massively new model every 18 months. Let me know where to send the flowers.

My daughter wants my M1 iPad Pro - so I am actually in for an upgrade.
So I at least hope there will be a little bit more than just the new M2 chip.

I am still on an iPad Pro 12.9 2017 and its working just fine. I probably won't upgrade until really stops working. There are folks I know who still had iPad 2's when they were no longer supported and still kept using them.

Without the mini-LED display, 11" iPad Pro looks to be a boring upgrade: M2, better cameras, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Don't get me wrong, there are a couple of noteworthy rumored additions: (1) MagSafe charging would not only be more convenient but it will free up the USB-C port and(2) revised 4-pin magnetic smart connector might be complemented by new accessories.
The upgrade from my 2017 10.5 inch IPP will be awesome.
Besides, the battery is nearly dead.

Might as well see what the next IPP is like before they do that. I certainly am. And if all it is is an M2 over an M1 SOC, you would be right as ipadOS would not be able to capitalise on the difference, except that the M1 version would be even more discounted after the M2 release. I can wait a month quite easily.

I see the upgrade path now being "every other release"...

This means that if you have a M1 product, the M3-series is your upgrade...

But if you are getting into the ASi Mac ecosystem for the first time, the new M2-series SoCs are for you...

Really hoping for an updated M2 mac mini in October! 🤞🤞

M2 Mac mini (8/10/24/512) would be sweet, but...

M2 "PRO" mac mini please. M2 alone won't cut it.

A M2 Pro powered Mac mini (12/20/48/1T) replacing the current 2018 Intel Mac mini in the lineup would be even better...!

I'd be happy with an updated Mini M1 with more ports and 32GB.

I think Apple see the Studio as the Mini Pro.

More ports & 32GB RAM, that would have been the M1 Pro Mac mini Apple never released...

A Mac mini Pro, that would be the M2 Pro powered model; the Mac Studio is more a Mac Pro Lite...

I love my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” - it’s been my daily driver for work and play, and will continue to be for at least a couple of years. I upgraded to it from the 2018 12.9” that I bought in early 2019, which was a giant upgrade from my iPad Air (1st gen). If there is an update to M2 this year, with no change to the chassis, and only some minor additions like new charging, I’ll keep using my current iPP for a couple of years. The only thing that would entice me would be a shift to a landscape camera, but that’s not likely to happen at this point.

If they don’t have the same screen tech in both the 11” and the 12.9”, there is still no reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11” Pro. Come one Apple, this is ridiculous now.

Wait… so the 11” iPad Pro still isn’t getting the mini LED screen like the 12.9” has had going on 2 yrs now? Then I will continue to wait to upgrade my 2018 11” iPad Pro. It still works great for all my art as well as photo & video editing. The only thing that would make me want to upgrade is the improved screen it didn’t get 2 updates ago!

Yeah I watched my wife import photos and edit on her 2018 12.9 and that thing is still fast and blazes through stuff. She isn’t the least bit interested in upgrading at this point in time.

Waiting to see what Apple does with the iPad Pro. The 11" will most probably not be getting any display change. Also waiting to see if and how Apple implements wireless charging.

I tried to airdrop today, from my other computer without any luck.

I can very comfortably say that there is nothing I need for my iPad Pro, as it stands today.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m curious where Apple is taking it, but as far as speed, power, multitasking, I/O and hardware/software features, there is NOTHING I want that’ll make me upgrade.

I don’t even need nor want iPadOS 16. At least not until they take care of any and all inevitable first-release bugs and the OS is stable for a WHILE. And I’ll wait until early adopters find out whether it’ll slow down their iPads.

I’m happy as-is in iPad-Land.

my 2018 iPad Pro 11 and 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 are still in use and still very much like new. Great product apple. When it time to replace who knows maybe I. 2025, I will for sure buy another iPad Pro.

This is one release I actually don’t care about this round. The current one is still ahead of its time. I really enjoy my 12.9” model. Especially with Apple never using the full potential of the hardware by limiting iOS.

Via AC+, just got a new 2018 12.9” iPad Pro, my day1 gen3 model was accidentally dropped and bent the frame into the display. So I think it’s been 3 years, 10 months of daily use. It’s been great, for photo editing and usual web browsing.

1) I wish it had access to usb4 and Thunderbolt4 for my external Sandisk SSD 1TB
2) BT 5.3 w/LC3

Thats it, that’s my wishlist 😬

ipad2 (wow) –>ipad3 (ugh) —>iPad Air gen1 (workhorse) —> 2018 gen3 iPad pro 12.9 (solid)

I'm not getting conned into upgrading my M1 iPad Pro this year. The 2020 to 2021 update was effectively a waste of money other than the mini LED screen improvement. Apple has gotten really good about making very minor features feel like a big deal and people need to not buy into the hype.

Plus, state of iPadOS 16 is a complete mess right now, which gives me little to no faith regarding the direction they want to take for pro users. Every couple weeks I keep trying out Stage Manager, only to be severely disappointed by the fundamental function of it as well as the complete buggy mess it still is. I've seen almost no progress since WWDC, which gives me little hope that we'll have a version that is 'fixed' by the time the new iPads are released.
Why would you even consider upgrading your M1 iPad? There's no point in upgrading to each new model as and when they release them. As an example, I'm still on a 2017 iPad Pro and every model update released since doesn't really do anything new compared to my model! Nothing important anyway and I'm certainly not going to miss Stage Manager which seems to be a terrible idea implemented badly.

I too, like many of the people on the first page, will be waiting for a screen tech upgrade on the 11". A significant weight reduction on the 12.9" could get me to upgrade too, I suppose.
