When I buy a new computer several years from now (have a 2010 MBP now... it'll go for a while yet
) I probably will buy refurb.
my early 2011 is refurb and its flawless i could not find one scratch or mark on it, like others said its the same as new just the box is plain white instead of the apple logoed one
please do i just bought one yesterday, hopefully mine comes out to be one of the good onesJust thought id add my two cents as I've just bought a refurbished macbook. I only had it for a day and it was already freezing up. It is rather temperamental and would freeze randomly even when doing a simple task like run safari. The only thing i can do is turn it off and boot it up again.
A genius had a look at it he wasn't able to fix it so instead they're going to replace it with another one. It's taken me two hours to drive back/forth to to the Apple store and several calls to support team - all their gonna do is replace it. I'm not very happy, least they can do is give me a gift card.
When i get my replacement I'll update this post and let you guys know how the second refurbished macbook goes.

thank you for the reply 8gb man thats lucky but alot of people have been saying they got 8gb but as for my order i still have not received my mbp but im planning on returning it because i found for 100 buks more i get a new late mbp and apple careI got it early today and have been using all day and have installed several programs. This one's great i have not had a problem and there's no bumps or scratches, its as if its brand new! I couldnt be happier and i was quite stoked to find there was 8GB RAM instead of the specified 4GB, i guess i was lucky this time.
Overall my experience has been great with the purchase of my refurbished macbook pro. Customer service was second to none both over the phone and in the Apple store with the geniuses. The lady whom i'd been in correspondence with over the phone even called me back today to make sure everything was working okay.
To sum here are the pros of buying refurb:
- Save money while getting a macbook that looks brand new
- If you're lucky you might get a free ram upgrade
- Express postage (i ordered at 7am and recieved it 8am the next day)
- Great customer service both in-store and over the phone
Cons:
- You don't get an Apple box (some people might care)
- No in-store help in regards to returns
- Waiting time (they post out very fast though)
As you can see the cons aren't really justified if you're a patient and non-ocd person. I would definitely buy a refurbished macbook again, that if this one doesn't break down anytime soon. How was your purchase lazaro?
Apple refurbished products are considered by most to be a very good deal.
- Apple Certified Refurbished Products are only available from the Apple Refurb Store and are not sold by any 3rd party or local Apple stores
- Educational discounts do not apply to refurb products.
- Refurb products come with the same warranty as new products, and qualify for AppleCare
- Refurb products have a changed serial number that identifies them as refurbished
- Refurb products come with whatever OS version and software they originally shipped with as new
- Refurb products come with the same items in the box as new products, only the box is a plain one, not the new box.
- A refurb product could have some cosmetic signs of prior use, but rarely do
- A refurb Mac may have some cycles on the battery, but not a significant enough amount to affect usable life
- The refurb store inventory changes frequently, sometimes several times a day, and doesn't have any direct relation to upcoming product releases. What's available in the refurb store is determined by what has been returned to Apple.
- If you're looking for a particular item, refurb.me can alert you when it becomes available.
Where are you guys getting that the Store can't help with the return of a Refurb? Totally false. They can accept the return for a refund or store credit towards new Mac if within 14 days of receipt of the product just like any other Apple purchase. They cannot handle a straight trade because they don't have the Refurbs in-stock, but they can handle the drop-off of the one you're returning.
The only difference between a refurb and brand new Mac is that you save a crapload of money with the refurb.
From my perspective, I've had nothing but pleasant experiences.

My statement is correct. If your company bought refurb products from Apple, then resold them, they were no longer classified as refurbs, but as used. If your company sold an item 2 months after they bought it from Apple, it would only have 10 months of warranty remaining, because the warranty period begins when Apple sells the product. Apple has never authorized another reseller to sell Apple Certified Refurbished Products. This is incorrect. The last place I worked at actually stocked Apple refurb products, we purchased big lots direct from Apple. We didn't always have them in stock, but we did most of the time. We were a 3rd party reseller.
Items that a customer returns for any reason can be refurbished. They are not sold as new. Many refurb products were never actually used by the customer. There's no way to know on a particular unit whether it was used or not. If the battery has cycles on it, it could indicate it was used, or it could indicate cycles were put on it during testing. If you get a unit with no cosmetic indications, you pretty much can't tell if it was ever used. That's the great thing about refurbs: it's like buying a brand new product. So my question is what happens to those Brand new Mac Book Pros that people buy then return within 14 days? Are these Mac Book Pro's repackaged and resold as new to other customers? Or is it considered refurbished? How do we know if its been used?
