Heres some observations from the iPod touch beta so I'm not even going to bother on the iPad. But I am curious if the iPad has the same issues:

- SLOW - The Touch 4gen really felt sluggish with iOS5b but iPhone users report equal/faster speeds. Not sure about iPad.

- No Photo Editing - Does the iPad have it? Because if not then Im assuming this has to do with the low-Q camera and it wont be in the final build either

- Airport configuration - iPhone gets Airport Config in the Wifi menu but Touch doesnt.

- iCloud Sync - I've left the Touch running for two days now and it still wont successfully do a cloud backup. (It estimates 7hrs for 700mb)

- Missed notifications - No indicator so while popups were intrusive, constantly checking the menu is equally annoying. (Obviously a beta quirk)

- No Tabs - I dont know if the iPhone/Touch will be getting Safari Tabs but I sure do want them

- No Podcast Subscriptions - This requires a computer to sync to. So much for PC-Free...

- Aperture Sync - iTunes beta 5 seems to have killed my Aperture sync. Thats a big problem for me and even after downgrading to 10.3.1 its still broken.

So thats my experience so far. My opinion is that the notifications are the big feature, but overall its just not worth it to beta test on the iPod/iPad yet because cloud services arent fully active, iMessages isnt useful until more people get on iOS5 and there are still a lot of featuers that havent been implemented. I know its hard to wait until fall, but it may be wise to be patient if youre not a dev.

It's been pretty fun so far and I've had no regrets. It's a bummer that Netflix and HBO don't work but it's a beta, you expect this stuff. If you do, make sure to turn off email notifications. Some of us have been having a problem where we can't get it to wake up without a hard reboot. We think that's the problem.

Netflix works awesome on my ipad2 with the ios 5 beta... And I love the beta. The split keyboard is sweet! I'm using it right now. The beta works well.. Buggy in some areas though. Wireless iTunes sync isn't turned on, but some users say it has worked over night while charging. I can't say for battery life.. But I still love my iPad. Oh, delta updates aren't yet turned on. I'm excited for those!

You are the first person out of a dozen or so that says Netflix is working. What iPad model are you using? I agree with you that the split keyboard is one of the best parts of iOS 5!

I am also interested in how you are able to use netflix on your ipad 2?

here are my initial impressions on my ipad 2

positives

very impressive that my apps are all available through the cloud and not having to go to my pc to sync.
multiguestures - i had these already unlocked but they are freaking quick! they must of added a line of code for turbo boost.

overall feel is snappier - again it seems like this OS is faster.

browser tabs - yes there were other apps that did this but now everything works under safari.

reader - it's nice to have a clean look when reading.

Negatives so far
notifications - not working for me
hard reset - sometimes my ipad 2 just doesnt turn back on so i need to do a hard reset.
email - no improvements
messenger - well no fault of apple but there isn't anyone i know i can message. :(

anyways it's cool and ya it's beta

Same here. Mine opens, lets me browse and everything else seems fine. But when I go to play anything, it goes back to the Netflix menu.

Same Netflix behavior here, not a big deal for me as I rarely use it. (I understand it may be a big deal for others)

Out of curiosity, I tried the Xfinity TV app and it seems to play video fine. Haven't used it much though, and it's crashed at startup a couple times but not in the few minutes of playing BBC America videos I've tried. Also not something I do much with.

How did you guys revert back? I tried to restore back to 4.3.3 and I get an error saying my ipad isnt eligible for the requested build.

Netflix doesnt work on anyones ipad, Im quite sire this guy open the program, saw that it was in the process and just thought it was working.

if anyone does have it working they should post a youtube video, because seeing is beliveing and if the majority say, HBO2GO and netflix dont work currently, then do not belive one lone wolf who says it does.

Slingbox does work however, go figure.

Are You using Tiny Umbrella? I had this happen on one of my Macs and it turned out to be the altered Host file. [for Jailbreak]

To check, open Terminal and type: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

If you have an com.apple reference.... remove it.

After running iOS 5.0b1 for 4 days, I reverted my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 back to iOS 4.3.3 without any issues. I restored from my last 4.3.3 backups. The only issue I had was on the iPhone -- My folders were gone and my icons were all out of order. Nothing big.

iOS 5.0b1 is solid enough, and the new features are awesome, but I ran into too many 3rd party app issues to use the OS on my personal iPhone and iPad.

I think I'll wait to read people's comments before upgrading to the next beta...

I am now on my first day of testing iOS 5 on both my iPad and iPhone. Apart from WeekCal which crashes on start, all other apps work ok for me. Of course sometimes things don't work as fluid as they should be, but this is a beta, so we shouldn't expect more at the time. As long as the basic stuff works ok, I'll be staying on iOS 5.

Anyone able to use wifi sync? I always says "My MBP is not available."

Wifi sync is not available in beta 1.

I decided to go back to 4.3.3. Especially my iPhone had some issues and made me go back. My iPad was actually very stable with it, but still I decided to go back and wait for a more mature version.

I am on iOS 5 via the iPad2 and must say that while it does have some great new features, I am finding it crashes alot and is very buggy.

The battery seems better on mine
Porn hub videos crash safari
Actually allot of video sites crash safari (vimeo etc)
The YouTube app won't play videos very often, especially if linked from a website.
The times app crashes while reading the app.
I really dislike the new GUI for music.

But I do have a lot of faith in the new OS .... But must say I can't recomend it to anyone just yet.

I really would like to see the ability to rotate images in photos.

If you actually read the developer notes, which a developer should, you would see that WiFi Sync is not activated in iOS 5.0 beta 1.

It's amazing how everyone wants to pretend to be a developer to get access to betas, but can' be bothered to read the release notes.

Man, I'm one of the few really loving the new Music.app interface. The old one just looked like iTunes on the iPad. The new one gives it a feel of being an actual music player. I hope they do something really cool with the videos app too.

When I tried to revert back to 4.3.3 iTunes gave an error that said a file was not available. A rather generic error. I had to go online and find a stock IPSW file to use. It worked fine.

Don't forget, it's for developers only at this point. There's a reason it's not out there for general use!

i've had email notifications on and i've not had that issue and i've had iOS5 running since it came out

yikes - retard move - i did a restore instead of upgrade - am i f'd?

i'm at the main screen anyway - the 3 click home thing activates the voice but i cant seem to get past that.

how newb of me

best results is to not restore from backup, keep it totally a fresh install.

I have a wifi iPad 2 and I am not getting any audio out of the music or video app. Anyone else having this issue?

mine's working fine.

* There's nothing in the status bar that tells me I have pending/unread notifications. from the keynote, I thought there would be an actual icon that summarized my notifications (http://bit.ly/mPi30E) but I guess this was just a design element created for the keynote and doesn't actually exist.
* Newsstand doesn't seem to let you purchase anything yet. I guess the market doesn't exist yet.

that image you linked to was just an icon they made for the keynote, nothing to do with the device. as for newsstand, it's not enabled yet, gotta wait til the fall.

iPad has photo editing and it runs fine, go in thru the photos app and tap edit on the pic.
Tabs for safari is iPad only
If you read the Dev notes, you'd know that WIFI sync is not enabled in this beta, so PC free doesn't start yet....

Keeping iOS5 on iPhone4, reverted back to 4.3.3 on iPad so I could get dropbox among other apps I need.

dropbox seems fine on my ipad
