OK thanks again. It got a bit further but still choked on copying some of the files:

Here's another one. This one should be two log files on your desktop. If it does, could you please post the contents of those log files?

OK it gave this error message:

There are no log files on my desktop (I've done a quick spotlight search for new files but can't find the log files elsewhere in my filesystem either).
Thanks for the assistance - it'd be great to get this working and I'll happily make a paypal donation for a beer...

Here's another one. The strange thing is that the error seems to be moving up the script. This one should still make two log files on the desktop.

Right, this time it gave this error:

It generated one log file, attached.

The log file helped. This one should work. It will not create any log files.

That worked! Have just tested it and no issues at all (this is a 3G+wifi iPad but doesn't currently have a sim card installed, but no crashes as you report with wifi only iPads). Thanks very much :D

EDIT: actually seems I spoke too soon about possible glitches. I can place a FaceTime call from the iPad but it doesn't seem to respond to incoming calls, even if it is on and unlocked. Still, it's great that it even works at all. Might have to get a sim and see if that makes a difference...

Glad to hear that. I'll incorporate the changes I've made into the main script and update it.

Permissions issue?

OK I was having the issue where essentially the FaceTime app would crash on the end of a call (documented on the iFans thread, round about page 50 onwards). It would appear to be in the Apple app switcher/multitasking tray but would not actually be running. You would need to reboot (not just respring) after a call in order for FaceTime to be active to allow further calls or to receive calls.

I changed several file/folder permissions as in this post:
How To: FaceTime on iPad 1G

And now it works! 3G+wifi iPad, no sim currently installed.
Before attempting to run iFacePad, the iPad had been factory restored, jailbroken with Absinthe and then openssh installed. Nothing else.

And now it works!

Actually, no it doesn't, at least not reliably. Would be great to know what's causing the crashes (it doesn't crash every time). However, my inelegant workaround is to have installed a "Reboot" app button so that the elderly person who is getting this iPad can easily reboot after each FaceTime call made or received. Not too much trouble and means the iPad will ring next time someone tries to FaceTime them.

I'll also try installing a data sim to see if that makes any difference.

I tried to install the facetime hack but it didnt work.
Following message appeared in the end:
There appears to be a problem. Tell Intell error number 4 has occurred.
Any help?

(What the heck is error number 4?) I'm looking into it. No guarantees that it'll be fixed.

Well poop, I need to be on Snow Leopard to install this hack? :(

It might work on Lion or Mountain Lion. I haven't tested them, but I know it requires at least Snow Leopard. If enough people start taking interest in this again, I may rewrite it to clean up my code and remove some of the requirements and possibly test it out with 10.7 and 10.8.

I'll give it a shot, here's hoping it works. I'm sure there are a lot interested still on older devices, they might just not have the know how. :/

Well poop, having an issue getting Snow Leopard working on my laptop. Just my luck when I need to do something lol. >_<

Well darn. I can't get it to work. Any chance of a rewrite like you mentioned earlier Intell?

Not sure. Currently really busy with work stuff and have to solve some problems I ran into when I first wrote that script a few years ago.

I have patience! You know what your doing and that alone I appreciate all this. Especially dumbing it down for iPad 1 users like me and eventually figuring it out lol.

In all honesty, I had no idea what I was doing when I first made this. When looking back over my script, I'm seeing all kinds of problems with it and beginner mistakes.

Well that's a plus in a way. There's a ton of possible improvements and fixes you can make! If anything it'll hopefully be simpler this time around.
I was talking to friends about this and seems there's more iPad users than I thought. It's a shame Apple didn't allow it. It'll be neat on my iPad.
