Early numbers are indicating that the iPhone 6 Plus was the first to sell through pre-orders. For years iPhone users swore up one side and down the other that they didn't want a larger screen, the iPhone screen was perfect. Boy did that change quickly. I just find it amusing to see how quickly people change their tune when Apple makes something official.

To be fair, the LOUDEST of Apple users don't represent the majority.

Apple super fans can be very hostile and demeaning people to try to have discussions with which is why there is such a high turnover on Apple-centric forums like this. If you say something negative about an Apple product (whether true or not) then you are labeled a troll and screamed at until you leave.

Thats why these forums are the most interesting around launch times. There's so many "average" users out here keeping discussions moving that the loudmouths whining about "one handed use" and "Jobs would never have allowed this" are incapable of being heard. And their silence is the best sound in the world.

I think it's reasonable that many people's expectations and desires can and have changed over the years. As the rest of the market started releasing larger and larger handsets, it became clear that other sizes can certainly work, and in many cases, improve usability.

Looking back, I remember how thrilled I was with the original iPhone, how it was just so perfect at the time -- it just couldn't really be improved! And now I'd die if I tried to use a 3.5" screen with no real Apps in daily use.

Opinions can certainly evolve -- when you're in the moment, you could think the grass couldn't possibly get any greener.

No you weren't. Apple retail stores do not even receive their shipments until 11pm the night before it goes on sale. I know this because I've worked 3 iPhone launches.

I call bs.

Do you know how to read... As another poster already stated, I was talking about phone cases. Cases. CASES.

Seem like in topic you were being specific to just the haters of larger phones until your body- which made you seem like you believe all Iphone users hated larger phones.

I have been an iPhone user since 3g(original and 5S only ones I have not owned) and for couple years considered on the tiniest level switching to galaxy part of that reason was the screen size. I have other apple products though which keep me around and I just love the fluid feel of the iPhones.

That being said- notice I said GALAXY. The iPhone 6 seems galaxy ish- while the plus seems like the note which I always felt was too large.

So as of this morning I can proudly say I have pre ordered my iPhone 6 with its 4.7 inch screen

Well, back then, Apple was telling them they didn't want a bigger screen. Now, Apple is telling them they do. And I mean, U2 was there. :p

I brought my 1st iPhone (6Plus) because the screen got bigger, and SwiftKey is come to the iPhone.

Most iPhone owners I know would like a bigger screen phone, don't know that many prefer smaller screen.

I used an iPhone 5 for couple of weeks when it was launch, but the lack of Google map, public transport and street view killed it for me.

Could be the 6+ had the least number of units 'in stock'. Just playing devils advocate. :)

That is most likely the case. Apple probably thought the 6 would be the bigger seller (no pun intended) and stocked more of those, hence why such long wait times for the 6 plus

I still don't want a larger screen. I tried the Samsung. Too big for me. The brand won't change my mind.

I did not want a bigger screen but after the demo of reachability I am now fine with a bigger screen. But the 6+ is too big. I cannot use it with one hand so I will likely never opt for one.

The only way I would ever consider a 6+ is if Apple allows iPad apps to run on it. Until then the regular 6 will be my phone.

I have this amazing concept for you: humans change their mind, and not only that, there are enough of us that there could be two groups. Those who want bigger screens and those who still don't.

I know for me, two years ago I did not want a bigger screen than the 5 when it came out. Now I use my phone more for pictures, reading, etc and I'm ready to move up. But two years ago I'd be one of those people saying I didn't want the screen to change. Threads like this annoy me, it's as though once a person has an opinion they're never allowed to change it.

I have to admit I was one of those smug iPhone owners who scoffed at people holding gigantic phones to their ears. "Looks like he's talking on an iPad Mini!" Yet here I am, waiting for the delivery of an iPhone 6+. But in my defense, I'm not a small man, 6'4", so I won't look as silly with a huge phone as all those height-challenged folk do. Or so I tell myself.

Also, Apple isn't releasing a new 4" iPhone. Some people will get the larger phone because they don't have a choice any more.

Exactly! I was really hoping for a 4" model, but since that wasn't an option (and I'm not interested in being locked into a 2 year contract for a phone that is already a year old), I went with the smallest one available.

There's no conspiracy here. Apple didn't have a big screen phone. So it had to create a reality distortion field around its tiny little phone. And Apple loyalists obliged.

Now that the market has pushed Apple into big screen phone territory, the reality distortion field has to be adjusted to accommodate the new phones. See, since NOW Apple has big screen phones, NOW they make sense. Apple loyalists happily oblige.

The rest of the planet simply shrugs and says "took 'em long enough..."

You're drawing conclusions based on virtually no data.

For one, there's no telling what percentage of iPhone users expressed a lack of desire for a larger phone. For all you know, not a single 6+ order came from such a user. Reports also suggest that the 6+ is selling out faster because Apple produced considerably fewer. Also, you don't know how many 6+ buyers are Android users who have been waiting for Apple to make a larger phone.

You draw the conclusion that people have changed their tune just because the larger phone appears to be selling, but you have no possible way of knowing the buyer demographic. You're just making assumptions.

LOL, that's nonsense. I have read and talked to so many people over the years who insisted that the iPhones were the perfect size and there was no need for anything larger. Sure I can't prove that any of them upgraded but I'm guessing that many of them were among the 4 million preorders. The Apple fanboys say anything to defend Apple, their screens were perfect at 3.5 & 4 inches and are now perfect at 4.7 & 5.5 inches. Nothing new here.

About 5 years ago on this forum I argued that Apple offer a much larger screen and two sizes for choice!

Most here thought I was bat sheet crazy!

Gosh how times change

I still don't want a big screen. Might even return the 4.7 if it doesn't feel right.

5.5 loses some of the mobile portion of mobile phone, and maybe even a bit of the phone part too, seems kind of unwieldy to put to your head and talk.

No matter how many people you've talked to, your anecdotal evidence is statistically insignificant when we're talking about a market of millions of users. It's not nonsense, it's science.

It's simple logic for human nature.... when apple doesn't have something then the fanboys say that they don't want it and its stupid to have it etc.. Once Apple does have something ( larger screen ) fanboys gladly accept it. :D:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

The original iPhone 3.5" screens 3:2 aspect ratio was the perfect small screen smartphone size IMO... I wasn't thrilled with the 4-inch 5 cause all they did was extend the screen vertically. Only ended up with a 5S because my 4S battery wasn't so hot after 2 years, but the 5S always felt too narrow.

The iPhone 6 adds some much needed width expansion, and *sighs* the whole world insists on that stupid 16:9 aspect ratio for HD/movies, but I'd rather have a less "widescreen" aspect ratio myself. Although 3:2 would just add more width in a 4.7 inch display, so I guess its for the better... and fixes the silly narrow 5/5S screens.

I'll never understand the large screen craze though - 5.5 inches is simply just too ginormous. That's what iPad minis are for! :p
