Can't wait for the new 12.9 iPad Pro ! Anyone considering 16 GB RAM over 8 GB?

And I thought the YouTuber hands-on videos are supposed to come out this morning???
Go with 16 GB RAM. Don't listen to people telling you otherwise. Yes iPadOS right now doesn't need 16 GB RAM, but it will once the floodgates for Pro Applications start pouring in. That's why 8 GB is the new baseline. But if you can afford 16, always do 16.

Another reminder: the new Apple TV remote will also be available tomorrow morning, for $59 which is cheaper than the old remote, and it’s backwards compatible with all tvOS Apple TV’s.
I plan to get it for my Apple TV HD, which still works perfectly five years later.
If you want the new remote, please just buy the remote. Unless you absolutely need high dynamic range, there is absolutely no reason to get the new Apple TV over the old 4K

This is wrong - new 4k Apple TV is much stronger than its previous model and has been upgraded in multiple respects.

Yes, but you have to buy the 1TB or 2TB model to get it. It's not like Macs where memory upgrades are a separate add-on.
And the price addition jumps significantly between 512GB and 1TB.

A smart person might just wait like 5 weeks, to see what WWDC has to say, THEN order.

Normally I might agree, but the difference between the base model and what it takes to get 16GB is at least $700. You'd be better off saving that for your next upgrade. No sane developer would design with 16GB in mind when the majority of devices won't have it, pro or not.

The only thing upgraded was the processor, and even then it’s barely an upgrade.
Going from the A10X to the A12 is actually a downgrade in the graphics department.
Other than that, high frame rate support which the majority of people will not be able to use at the moment, and HDR.
Everything else is exactly the same as the old one.
The only reason to upgrade from the old 4K to the new 4K is if:
A: you don’t already have one.
B: you absolutely can not live without HDR.
Other than that, just stick with your current one and get the new remote, and save $119.

When will the review embargo lift?
According to Apple Australia, all of these products will be officially released on May 21.
Apple usually lifts the embargo the Tuesday or Wednesday before a product’s official release, so most likely May 18 or May 19.

Did you even compare the specs to the old one? Nearly everything has been upgraded - processor, wifi, bluetooth, and hdmi. those things may not seem important to you, but they are important to people with nice TVs and fast networks.

Until I saw that picture on top, I had no idea the new ATV will be so much bigger than the new iMac.

Weird design choice.

Same applies.
You only need to upgrade if you absolutely need HDR, or you don’t already have one.
New wi-Fi: no one complained about the old Wi-Fi. If your connection was slow on the old one, it’s going to be slow on the new one. You’re using it to stream Netflix.
New Bluetooth: again, same as Wi-Fi.
New processor: with worst graphics.
updated HDMI: which will only be useful if you have a TV that supports high frame rate, you have content that is high frame rate, and you need HDR. The majority of people have none of that.
So I say again, no need to upgrade unless you absolutely need HDR, or you don’t already have one.

Good to know my alarm will go off at 5AM per the usual for work, I'll go into my home office and boot up and while waiting for everything to come up I'll go into the Apple Store app on my iPhone or iPad and buy the new Apple TV.

I want the refresh rate and the new remote.

The kiddo's playroom tv will get the current Apple TV moved to it.

I was set on ordering a new AppleTV & iPad Pro tomorrow to replace my 4K TV + 2018 iPad Pro w/ magic keyboard but I'm actually going to hold off. The color balancing works with my current AppleTV and I use a Logitech remote and my TV doesn't support Dolby Vision or variable frame rate so that product has no place for me at the moment and the iPad Pro M1 is appealing but until iPad OS has true multi-tasking like MacOS, that power is lost on me. I don't use iPad's cameras and Office 365, Lightroom and Byword work great on the 2018 model.

I've never skipped a generation of iPad (have owned everyone since the first gen) but I think I'll hold off to see what WWDC brings.

Wait I’m confused.
You said you’ve never skipped a generation of iPad… yet you’re still on a 2018 iPad, implying that you skipped last years.

Hence why 8 GB is the new baseline. So like I said, if you're able to do it go ahead. But you won't be cut off of pro applications if you go with 8. You just have more headroom.

It's going to be the same situation as the 8 GB M1 Mac Mini vs. the 16 GB M1 Mac Mini. Both can run the same apps but the 8 GB tends to struggle if you're a heavy power user.

The Mac Mini was a $200 difference on a $700 product.
The iPad is a $700 difference on a $800 product, albeit with storage increased as well.
That's a huge upsell.

Unfortunately the iPad does not have separate customizations for RAM and storage.

2020 doesn't count. Are we counting a generation where they added a camera and one CPU core?

I feel like every reviewer agrees that the 2020 was not a 'generation'

Sort of like I didn't buy a new iPod just because they bumped the storage. The 2018 and 2020 iPads are identical to me. I don't use the cameras. I don't think I've ever used the iPad to take a photo.

Although, I Did sell my black iPhone 4 and buy the white model when it shipped 9 months later then buy a 4S that October. I really wanted the white iPhone 4.

Yep and it sucks that Apple built it out that way. So once again, do it only if you can.

Ideally they should've built it out the way the Mac Mini was but it's either a supply chain issue or solely them choosing to lock out 16 GB to the higher tiers for no reason.

It's funny how you think all these upgrades are irrelevant, but you think the new remote is so much better. It's pretty and all but was there an issue with the old remote? I also found it pretty funny that the one product Apple makes that is most likely to get misplaced (and was just updated) cannot be tracked on their brand-new tracking system. Stay tuned for a new Apple remote case that integrates an AirTag holder.

Yeah the hardware team is pretty rotten - or the marketing team (whomever is responsible). They do some pretty egregious stuff. It's hilarious how the new base model iMac doesn't have the LAN port on its power adapter. Literally everything is an upsell.

Another big upsell offender is not including the Touch ID Magic Keyboard on the base model iMacs. If security and privacy was so important to Apple they wouldn't lock out such a basic feature to users that can't afford to pay more. Really bad move on Apple's end.
