Have to pass on it all. A weak iMac. New iPads that won’t see much difference at all in usage or performance. And a very underwhelming Apple TV update (good luck seeing much difference). Sorry apple. There’s always the fall.
I am excited for professional users of the iPad Pro who, with the M1, are hopefully one step closer to getting Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. Performance will definitely be higher. We saw the performance bump when it went from Intel to M1 on Macs, so I would hope the bump from an A chip would also be increased.

As for seeing the difference on an Apple TV, well yes it’s still 4k. I have a 120hz tv so I will be upgrading to take full advantage of my tv being capable of high frame rate HDR. The new Apple TV has hdmi 2.1 finally for this higher bandwidth. It seems for now “high frame rate hdr” is a bump from 30hz to 60hz, with hope of a 120hz unlock with a future update. I also am happy about the new remote.

The only thing upgraded was the processor, and even then it’s barely an upgrade.
Going from the A10X to the A12 is actually a downgrade in the graphics department.
Other than that, high frame rate support which the majority of people will not be able to use at the moment, and HDR.
Everything else is exactly the same as the old one.
The only reason to upgrade from the old 4K to the new 4K is if:
A: you don’t already have one.
B: you absolutely can not live without HDR.
Other than that, just stick with your current one and get the new remote, and save $119.
The new Apple TV also has an hdmi 2.1 port, which is needed for higher framerates in 4k. The current Apple TV is limited to 4k 30fps, and it’s now officially going to support 4k 60 fps. The hdmi 2.1 spec officially supports 120hz, so here’s hoping rumors are right that it gets unlocked with a software update.

I’m too lazy to go back to old threads, but there have already been posts on these forums showing benchmarks that it is absolutely not a downgrade in the graphics.

At first was very excited about the new iMac, but then realized that a Mini + monitor is a better idea and better value.

For me at 6'4, the ergonomics of the iMac are terrible. Needs to be VESA mountable.

Until I saw that picture on top, I had no idea the new ATV will be so much bigger than the new iMac.

Weird design choice.

Or the iPad Pro bigger than both. Of course, if they put them in at the proper scale, they'd be really small for a headline graphic, so THAT would actually be the weirder design choice. Either way, I don't think anyone's going to be confused ;)

…nah! not getting any of those…

checking apple website, add ipad pro 11 to favorites, +applecare + folio case + pencil 2… i am not so ready for preorder

I foresee a flood of old ATV remotes hitting eBay in the next month.
no just remotes - I picked up 2 ATV 4K for $160 - I am replacing the last 2 1080P I had running on my boy's rooms. That 'new' ATV 4K its a garbage upgrade

Planning on picking up 2 ATVs and 1 remote. One of my current ATVs going to the kids so want to give them the better remote, other one of my current ATVs going to my parents. Then I get the 2 new ones.

Can't wait for the new 12.9 iPad Pro ! Anyone considering 16 GB RAM over 8 GB?

And I thought the YouTuber hands-on videos are supposed to come out this morning???
Seems like they opted for a pre-availability embargo rather than a pre-pre-order embargo. Kind of sucks for the customers, especially if the supply is really that tight and by the time reviews do go live the products will be back-ordered for weeks or months. I’d bet reviewers don’t even have the devices yet. Probably looking at May 16th/17th embargos.

It's really annoying that they only added the mini-LED screen to the 12.9" Pro. Everything else about this compared to the 2018 is good enough to get me to upgrade my 11", except that screen difference is a deal breaker for me. I'm not about to settle for the larger one when I know they will add mini-LED to the next version. It was same thing with the 12 Pro and Pro Max with the sensor shift, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. They always end up adding the features to the smaller devices, but why not just release them at the same time? I'm buying a "Pro" device. The features should line up regardless of the screen size. I'm never going to buy the larger option because that's not my preference.

I have to disagree. People are at different stages of tech refresh. For someone looking for new Apple gear, I think these are excellent upgrades. I am getting one of each and cannot wait for the new MacBook Pros with M2 this summer/fall to upgrade.

I guess it’s time to finally upgrade from my ATV 2 gen. It’s still in use for some Netflix. It’s been an amazing product, so I’m looking forward to the bells n whistles of the new one (and the new remote is similar to my existing one).

Initially I had this same thought, but then I asked myself (if given the choice) would I pay $100 more for the new screen. At 11” (on a touchscreen no less) I was inclined to say “no”, so I am upgrading now. The 11” may indeed receive the same upgrade next year, but very likely with the price bump as well. Depending how you use it that is not necessarily a good thing. The iPad Pro is starting to get very expensive for what it is.

There’s one reason the redesigned Apple TV remote makes no sense as a stand-alone purchase: you can’t buy a new Apple TV without one. Why would I buy one now—as much as I’d like it over the one I have now—since I'll be getting a redundant one when I upgrade my old Apple TV HD?

Apple should decouple the two, allow users to config the Apple TV without the remote. Problem solved!

(I know this isn’t a huge problem, all things considered, I’m just thinking aloud.)

Another big upsell offender is not including the Touch ID Magic Keyboard on the base model iMacs. If security and privacy was so important to Apple they wouldn't lock out such a basic feature to users that can't afford to pay more. Really bad move on Apple's end.
Well, you pay $200 for the eighth GPU core, touchid, two USB-C ports, and a gigabit Ethernet port.

But TouchID is not security and privacy, it is convenience. Entering your password is just as secure, just less convenient.

The price difference is for keyboard, mouse and a 4.5K monitor. If you want that kind of monitor, the iMac is excellent value. If some monitor that you are inheriting is good enough, the mini saved you a lot.
