Looks great, looks like they've borrowed a lot of ideas from my beloved Things 3 app. Not sure it's a replacement for Things, but it's definitely going to be the default To Do app for many users going forward.
Indeed. Having watched this video, I am seriously considering abandoning Things. I switched to Things 3 from OmniFocus when I reached the point where I felt OmniFocus was too fiddly, and was kind of getting in the way. For my needs, Things 3 just works. But this update to Reminders seems even to improve on some of the features of Things 3, that were missing for me, from the OmniFocus days, such as being able to nest or re-nest sub-to-do items, in a group, or even to another group. The one area where I think Things 3 has an edge is to be able to add top-level narrative in a to-do, over the sub to-do elements. But I am not sure how necessary this feature is for me. Will need to think about it. Either way, this is a very welcome set of new features and is giving me serious pause for thought.

PS: one thing Things 3 doesn't seem to do at all is allow shared lists... the ability to "add people" to a list here is very nice indeed.

On-topic: Reminders is great. I use it all the time, and have never had an issue with it.

Off-topic: HAHA! You lost me at "Siri Improvements". Siri SUCKS! I'm so done with this stupid, hardly useful, poorly designed "assistant".

I also really wish Apple would bring back the 15 minute snooze. 15 minutes was so useful because if I wanted to address the reminder as soon as possible, it was almost always just the right amount of time to wrap up what I was doing, and then be reminded again before I forgot and drifted into my next task, or at least before I got too deep into my next task. And even if it took me 30 minutes to wrap up, it was helpful to get the extra reminder to keep it on my radar. The current 1 hour snooze is way too much time for a minimum. I always wrap up then forget about the reminder, then I’m well into my next task when I receive the second reminder, and I have to snooze again, and it’s a frustrating cycle. 1 hour is a useful increment too, but not as a minimum.

Yeah I do like how on my Mac if a remind pops up I can snooze it for just five minutes if I want.

I like how you can set a due date but not a time. That is new in iOS 13. I am still not sure if it will replace Todoist for me, but I am anxious to try it out when the public release happens.

I wish it had more flexibility for scheduling repeating, for example reminding you to pay your quarterly estimated taxes every 3 months. Same with alarms in the Clock app, like set the alarm only every other week.

I believe you're able to do this under the stock iOS "calendar" app. Just write up an appointment and make it recurring weekly/monthly/or yearly.

I recently started using Todoist. This is just too little too late for me. Plus, I’m trying to steer clear of Apple-only software. In this day, critical apps should all be cross-platform. I’m an all-Apple guy hardware wise, but I don’t want my data completely locked into one ecosystem.

The biggest improvement for me is, being able to have a reminder due on a day, but not have to set a time. Sub tasks are a help, too.

Built-in Calendar App works fine for basic things but it's time for improvements. Not sure if Apple ever updated Calendar App.

It is indeed welcome, although I wish Apple wasn't still significantly lagging behind companies like Google / Dropbox / Microsoft with regard to sharing items.

(if it's not obvious, I'm talking more about the ecosystem in general - not specifically referring to Reminders).

While it's important to be able to share items one by one, it shouldn't be the only option we have. I would find it incredibly useful if I could set up an iCloud "Family" folder where anything I drop in there is available to the people I've indicated should have access to the folder. Most other companies have figured this out already... I'm not sure why Apple hasn't.

The one feature I am missing is repeat upon completion rather than on fixed days. I am now using GoodTask which has developed a way of offering this feature within the Reminders format. If Reminders itself can’t offer it, I hope the new format doesn’t stop GoodTask from continuing to do so.

You can already do this in Reminders - choose "custom" repeat, set frequency to "monthly", then "Every 3 months".

Once they match Wunderlist's functionality I'll be happy.
I’ve been a big Wunderlist user for years. The ability to group lists and nest lists (or allow individual list items to have their own lists) is important to me and why I stuck with Wunderlist. Now, iOS 13 Reminders is getting both of these features. Maybe that’s enough for me to switch.

What Wunderlist features do you use that Reminders in iOS 13 doesn’t have?

It is still hardly usable for me, maybe even less usable than before. It takes something like 5 or 6 taps to various levels of sub-menus just to make a trivial "don't forget xxx" reminder at certain time. I don't know why it can't be one simple "New reminder" screen with all the settings.

Thanks for this post. Been waiting for an in depth review / overview of the new Reminders. Probably the feature i’m looking forward to the most.

Just curious about you guys: how will you use the picture attachment option in reminders? Whats a good example of a good reminder for that?

Love the integration within iOS and Shortcuts. This will be my main task app again from iOS13

You mean Microsoft To-Do?

When you have to buy a specific item you just take a photo of the packaging instead writing all the details down.

Apple blocking a bunch of reminders apps on the App Store in 3... 2... 1...
They won’t.

They will update the core apps to be in line with the rest of the OS but are not aiming for the niche target who need features where Things 3 has a role.

You don’t think dark mode is a great update? /s

Reminders has that capability today. In fact I have just such an "every 3 months reminder" to pay estimated taxes. Not very difficult to set up.
