What's New: Endless never ending syncing issues and duplicate reminders. Can't wait to see how this is received when it is released and screws up everyone's existing reminders. It is going to happen. They've simply changed too much on the back end for this to not happen.

Will we now be able to use Siri to state which reminder List to add the item to? I'd love to be able to dictate adding items to a grocery list and then later dictate items to a chores list

My wife currently does this with Reminders.
She will say "Hey Siri, Add Lunchmeat to the Grocery List" then later say "Hey Siri, Add Cat Litter to the Costco list"

I've only tried it once, I prefer to type...but it seems to work for us.

Reminders should integrate with notes app...
And Calendar.

Except no, because that's how we got iTunes. And after a long time of that practice, it had to be axed in favor of separate apps.

I used to believe this too, until I bought into using Fantastical for a while. I found that having Calendar and Reminders together was not as good as I thought it would be, and went back to using the stock apps. What we need is not to have these things completely in the same app, but rather more crossover and awareness of these things from each other.

Calendar should be a little more aware of when there are overlapping events and reminders. And I should be able to easily "remind me about this Note"

I use this all the time on ios12. I tell my HomePod in the kitchen "Hey Siri, add bread to my Supermarket list". As usual, you have to say the right words until Siri gets smarter.

iOS desperately needs the ability to add words to the device's dictionary on-the-fly in real-time while using iMessage, Notes, etc.

While there is no area to see all the tasks in Things, the Upcoming smart list will show are your tasks scheduled for the future.

Is this a new feature that's coming soon? Also what about tasks that I've not given a date yet. Will these still appear in this smart list?

Well, that’s exactly how I want it to be, I don’t want them to become a one app, I just want more integration.
Like notify me when I set a reminder for when I’m at home (location reminder) when you know from my calendar that I have an appointment at the dentist in the same time.

The smart list name is Upcoming and it shows all your tasks scheduled for the future from Tomorrow to anytime in the future (I have a task assigned for 2024 and it’s there).

Tasks that you didn’t set a date for will show up in the Anytime smart list, just like how a GTD app should work.

I've tried Things and really liked the clean interface, and could even swallow it's price, however the one feature that caused me not to use it was the fact that there isn't area where you can see ALL your tasks, whether upcoming, or distant in the future
Things supports this. Look in the “Anytime” section. That lists all projects and tasks, whether they have an assigned date or not

Yes there is. The “Anytime” smart list includes all tasks whether they have a date assigned or not. This should do what you’re describing.

Incorrect, the Anytime lists doesn’t show tasks that are scheduled for future, these are in the Upcoming list, doesn’t show tasks that are on hold, these are in the Someday list, not it shows tasks in Inbox list or tasks logged to the Logbook list.

This didn't work for me. I went to the inbox and created a quick task called ABCD, but when I clicked the anytime tab, I don't see it.

Yeah I clarified that in the comments above, things in the Inbox won't show up in Anytime because by the definition of GTD things in Inbox aren't necessarily tasks, they can be anything because you need to first capture "add the thing to inbox" then clarify "move the item from inbox to next action lists".

However, you don't need to set a date for the item to see it on Anytime, you should add it to a Project, Area, or just move to Anytime manually.

News to me, but you’re right. I saw the deadline tasks in Anytime and thought that meant every task was included. Clearly I don’t use this list in the app much.

Is there a way to make completed items disappear automatically? They didn't previously but it would be nice to see them vanish. Feels good somehow. I know that in the iOS 13 version they're gone when one goes back to the app but it's not the same thing.

And personally I preferred having the empty line below which could be tapped to enter a new reminder.

^ THIS.

I liked the 'old' way to easily enter a new line without needing to hit the button at the bottom. and likewise when I was checking off things, I could one-button click the Hide Completed rather than a, now, 2-button click to hide completed.

I know this is an older thread, but it has been helpful to me. Things just announced they will no longer provide syncing for Things 2 as of Feb 2020. Fair enough as it is old and Things 3 has been out for awhile now. However, even with the 30% discount being offered until the end of Oct, to upgrade would cost me over $55 since I use Things on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Things is an excellent piece of software and I do believe in supporting developers, but that is a steep price for such a basic piece of software.

So I am now looking at riding out Things 2 until it is bricked in Feb and then converting over to Apple's all-new Reminders app. Sure, it may not be quite as good as Things, but the ability to Share lists with others and the deep-level Siri integration makes it attractive. And the fact that Reminders is free makes it even all the more attractive compared to spending $55+ on Things, which would likely need to be upgraded again in 2-3 years ($$). So, Reminders it is...

Thanks for reviving the thread. I wanted to post my gripes about the new way Reminders works, but kinda felt that the thread was withering. Good to have confirmation that some folks are still reading it.

So without further ado, here are my gripes ...

  1. I hate the new way to toggle the Completed Items. Used to be one press to toggle. Now it's two presses. Not sure what we gained in this change.
  2. I hate how completed items are now sorted from oldest to newest. The way I use Reminders is to keep me on top of my bills, so when I finish paying a bill, I check it as completed. Sometimes, I accidentally check the wrong one off or maybe I want to see if I paid a particular bill. Pre iOS13, the most recently completed items were at the top, now they're at the bottom, thus requiring scrolling through a ton of completed items.
  3. #2 wouldn't be so bad if there was a way to quickly get to the bottom of the list. Like maybe a four-finger gesture, kinda like how you can get to the top of a vertically scrolling screen by tapping the top of the screen.
  4. #2 also wouldn't be that bad, except for seemingly random reasons, a recently completed item doesn't get sorted to the bottom, it'll be in the middle somewhere and thus nearly impossible to find.
  5. Again, #2 wouldn't be so bad if there was a way to "search" for particular reminders.

So I guess my main gripes are really with how Apple changed the entire way that the Completed Items works and it's killed my workflow and there aren't any reasonable ways to change my workflow, unless you consider the nuclear option of deleting years and years of completed items (goes back to 2012 when I got my iPhone5).

I am with you on #1 and #2 ...
I also hate how, when I open the Reminders App, I can't just select the next "line" down to start a new reminder item. I have to click the bottom text. I am not used to this and it takes a while. (sure, this could be a first-world problem) but not sure what impact leaving it alone would be and adding other functions elsewhere.

and this is without UPDATING to the new Reminders totally. I have an older Mac that I use Reminders on still and don't want to lose out on a cross-update feature by jumping full in

When I go to "Sort By...Date" it automatically reverts back to Manual after I close completely, and reopen the app. Anyone have this issue or know of a way to keep it persistent? It stays in the order, but when I add a new item, it doesn't sort by Due Date until I change it back AGAIN.

Is there a way to import a text list of tasks into Reminders? I'm moving tasks from Omnifocus to Reminders. while I can't click and drag , I can copy a list of tasks into a note and the try to paste them into a reminders list .

I tried on my Iphone and on my iMac so far it puts all of the lines of text into a single task.

Regarding #3 and #5 in my gripe list.

#3 - Turns out there is a way to quickly get to the bottom of a list. Just start panning down, then grab the scrollbar that appears on the right. A quick flick will get you to the bottom.

#5 - On the home page for Reminders, if you pan up, the search bar appears. I think this is new for iOS13.

Replying to myself on importing tasks. I found an Applescript that loops through each line and creates a new reminded in a top level list. I haven't figured out how to craft a path that will create it in lists that are in a group / folder. So I have to drag them into the correct folder from my Inbox.

I posted the script on my blog. I don't know if I'm allowed to post that here, so message me if you want the link.
