Re: Removal of iPhone 7 Headphone Jack - I'd give give Phil's "innovation my arse" to know where he picked up on that "theory" -

"It has nothing to do with content management or DRM -- that's pure, paranoid conspiracy theory," he said.

...certainly not macrumors.
In fact I question his quote to be frank.
Fair play I'm not Phil's greatest fan.
Actually I think apple would do far better without him as a "front man". He seems like a Ford car salesman.

Apple said removing the jack allowed water resistance. Obviously true.

They never said jackless was the ONLY way to be water resistant. Straw man.

Is IS the only way to move those thick components from the top (where the camera needs to me) to the bottom.

Then how does the Samsung maintain the water resistance when it has a headphone jack?
Precisely!

Apple's pushing this excuse hard, but a company as skilled as Apple could do what Samsung did easily. This is Apple not wanting to take complete responsibility since until they announced it there was no way to estimate the amount of pushback they'd get.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Just another reason to wait till next year before buying. By then there'll be better choices than the ugly Apple wireless ear buds. They look like someone chopped off the wires... Incredibly Ugly.

I hope this new iPhone will flop. Then they would realise it was a mistake to remove it. I'll be fine with my SE for a couple of years but after that I guess I'll have to get a Samsung or whatever still has a headphone jack.

Exactly, this is the first iPhone in a long time that I'm not getting and I will be holding on for mine as long as I can, hate to have to switch to Android. I want to keep on using my high quality headphones that I already have and be able to charge at the same time and not use an adaptor which makes the phone bulky in my pocket.

This is the worst decision in the history of Apple and I doubt Steve Jobs would have approved this. The first iPhone with less features than it's predecessors.

I wasn't mad about this before. I figured there was a good reason and, frankly, whether it was killing off serial ports, floppies, or USB A, I'm almost always in favor of moving forward on this.

The ONLY grip I have is that if Apple was going to eliminate the analog port, now would have been the perfect time to jump to USB-C and unify everything. I'm not a fan of Lightning. The exposed pins on the standard cables corrode really easily.

But yeah, good riddance.

This is the worst decision in the history of Apple and I doubt Steve Jobs would have approved this. The first iPhone with less features than it's predecessors.

Jobs loved killing off old things. It was one of his best features. You're talking about the guy who removed arrow keys from old Mac keyboards to force people to use the GUI and not just port terminal apps over.

I mean, their reasoning behind it isn't all bad. The fanboys point out the cash grab, but I do genuinely believe this logic to be accurate. ESPECIALLY with the craziness that is rumored for the iPhone next year.

I can believe that these features were dependent on the removal of the headphone jack, but they could also have kept the jack and gotten water resistance if it were an extra millimetre or two in thickness.

Oh right so I guess Sony are frigin technical geniuses then as they managed to make water proof headphone ports YEARS AGO!!!

If Apple are that inept at technical design I highly suggest they hire some of Sonys mobile division engineers...

Or basically Apple is talking UTTER BS to give excuses for ditching the headphone jack which is far more likely..

Apple true really are getting more and more arrogant and treating its customers with more and more contempt as the years role on.

So true. I used to have respect for Apple. Now, I view them as the most arrogant, dishonest old men that have ever existed in the 21st century, they simply need to retire. Their greed, I find repulsive.

Still don't understand why people are comparing this to things like the removal of the floppy disk and cassette players. Each of those things were replaced by better technologies. Ditching a wired technology with a wireless one isn't the same thing, but rather something that complements existing things. For example, Wi-Fi isn't a replacement for Ethernet, for without Ethernet, you generally wouldn't have Wi-Fi.

From the interview, it just sounds like Apple couldn't fix a supposed issue that they were having. Were they telling the truth, or was it lazy engineering? We'll never truly know.

There was literally nothing wrong with the 3.5mm jack.

Thankyou, my thoughts exactly. Though hardcore Apple fans would justify anything and praise it. Had Apple put the internals of the iPhone 2G inside the 7 casing people would go crazy for it.

Well people use steering wheels in cars. Whoa, another 100+ years old technology! Lets dump this and build cars with joysticks steering. Just for the sake of moving on.

Humans are older than ALL of the technologies we've created. So let's get rid of them.

Besides, per many, many rationalization entries throughout this entire thing, apparently we need to spur on the rise of the androids so that their ears can hear the "all digital" replacement for audio delivered today.;)
