I've noticed today on my iPhone 7 that there is a small gap between the screen assembly and the metal back at the top of the phone.

It's wide enough that dust collects in there and that I can slide a sheet of paper a few millimetres in there. However, the sides and bottom of the phone don't have this gap, and I can't get a sheet of paper in between.

I spoke to a friend who also bought a 7 on the same day and he says his one is the same. Is this normal? Do any of you readers have it as well? Most importantly, will it affect the water resistance?

Yep I've got the gap on mine

THe consensus seems to be it's part of the design according to other forum members.
Horribly looking gap is part of the design? Since when water resistance is achieved by leaving gaps?

Interesting. Could you let me know if your replacement phone has the same issue?
[doublepost=1475186791][/doublepost]So it looks like a fair amount have this issue and a fair amount don't. Not sure what to do at this point. I'll try and compare in store if I get near one.

Don't listen to nonsense. There can't be any gaps. It has to be tight and flush.

That seems a huge gap between screen and alminium,i have never seen that type of gap on any of my iPhones

Did Apple confirm this wasn't part of the design? Has this 'defect' as you say been confirmed a flaw? What about the iPhones that have been subjected to water with this gap? All the Plus variants I have seen, have this. There have been zero reports on this being a defect. Where is your evidence saying otherwise?

It's even worse then, because its widespread.

The gap has been reported on the Plus model and I contacted Apple Care, they stated it's not been reported as an issue if the iPhone has not been subjected to water damage. What's considered widespread? Do you have numbers/citations to prove this or are you going by anecdotal threads?

Get real dude.

It is a defect - there should be no gaps on the phone.

Seriously - this is Apple, do you think Mr. Ives would design/release a phone that has "gaps" to the internals of the phone where you can stick a sheet of paper in? Think of all those design videos where they sweat the micro details when designing a phone.

Sorry bro, hate to say it, but head to the apple store and get it replaced. I would.

I was at the apple store earlier and just for the heck of it I tried with a paper and the first 3 display phones had the gap. I had to go plus I looked like a weirdo doing it haha.

Pretty sure its fine.

I did 2 7 and 1 7+. At the apple stores near me they have it set up like this

7 7+ 7 7+ and so on

So I guess it affects all 7's but not necessarily all 7+'es? Is that what you saw in store?
I only did it to one 7+ and it did.

In fact it does it to my 7 too. And I just tired it with my girlfriends 6S. Same thing. Little gap and you can slide paper in.

This is a non issue. I'm pretty ocd about my apple products. Lol. Check my thread history haha.

lol no dude. You are crazy OCD. That dust didn't come from the gap. The phones still sealed.

Every iPhone in the apple store had the gap and there's no dust. Not on my phone either.

My advice Alex stop looking for flaws. Use the phone normally and if you happen to notice a flaw then you can post about it.

Then how did the dust get under the screen

Then how did the dust get under the screen
When they built the phone

The screen is sealed. Dust just can't appear outta nowhere. That's what I read on ifix it.

And your pic doesn't look like dust imo. My phone has the gap. My gfs year old has the gap and no screen protector with no dust.
