I have iPhone 7 black matte regular and don't have this gap. It's sits flush with the back.

I always using my phone in silicone case, so the gap is not visible, but I'm afraid, if I will use my phone when raining, the water will go inside through the gap, and I will lost the warranty.

If It bothers you that much you should take it in for warranty, that's what I would do considering I paid a premium.

Before I claiming this problem, I would like to know, Apple will change the phone to new one, or they can repair (I don't like the repaired phones).

They will likely repair first rather than replacing you with a replacement unit. Nothing wrong with that. If they find that your phone is not repairable due to the bent in casing or water damaged, then they replace the device.

Same here, I noticed it on my brand new Iphone 7 plus matte black, when i seen dust in the gap after 1 day using. Local authorized apple service provider (I live in East Europe) said it cosmetic defect, not functionality - so no replace for me. Only one question bother me, does it affect water resistance...

Strange.. I think, every holes, what are not part of the original design, on one water resistant phone, is serious risk in terms of water resistance. And if we won't take care to this ^cosmetic^ defect and the water will go inside through this hole, we will lost the warranty..

I also noticed the dust in between the top of the screen and body of my matte iPhone 7. I also can wedge a thin piece of paper in there. Since I bought it from a reseller, they want nothing to do with me.

Strange, they don't want to repair or change?

I could accept this, if they ensuring me, this problem won't be affect to the water resistance..

Ah but that's the brilliance of Apples fine print.
I asked them how do I know now if it's water resistant? They told me it's not co reed for water damage anyway.

Could you go to another store? Maybe the behavior is different between the apple stores.

They say they can't see anything wrong.

Do you have photos of the gap you can post here. I'm curious about what exactly is it that they can't see. You can perhaps borrow a friend or familys iPhone 7 and take it to the reseller and show them the difference. Preferably 2 or 3 phones.

Apple use the same adhesive method that other manufacturers do for waterproofing. There is an adhesive gasket all the way around the edge of the screen between the plastic frame for the screen and the metal frame

Source of info : I have a phone repair shop ;)

They can't see a gap they say. Even when there is some dust there. I'm the only one with an iPhone 7 that I know.

So even if there is a bit of dust between the frame and the body it's still ok?

Okay let's experiment a bit here for peace of mind. I remember, when using my Xperia Z5, on Android there was an app that checked water resistance of the device. It worked by using the internal pressure sensors to see if there was any pressure difference when applying slight force to the screen.

If the pressure increased that meant the water resistance was still intact. However, when it showed no pressure difference it meant it was compromised.

So if you could download an app that had a barometer, you could technically perform a similar test to see if your water resistance isn't compromised by the gap. Let me know.

Edit: btw Im not sure how the iphone 7 is structured internally so this might not be accurate considering the speaker grills and headset speakers are semi permeable. You could apply an electric tape over them to get a seal.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem, the gap gets worse and fills up with more and more dust particles every day, until it looks horrendous in day light.

I took mine to an Apple store and they told me its clearly a fault with the Phone. I sent mine back to get replaced, Apple told me the screen should be flush on all 4 sides.

I think this is clearly a massive issue, and a massive f**k up for apple, embarrassing more than anything, especially for such a large company. I gues someone in q-control was taking a nap.

Make sure to get the phone replaced if you have a gap.

Thanks
Hi can u please let me know how can I get the replacement because my iPhone 7 Also same issue and I have contacted icare but they are not supporting!

Just got home from my Apple Store in Okalahoma City, I had the same gap issue with lint and stuff getting stuck. So I scheduled and Genius Bar appointment and took it in. They agreed to replace the screen but phone failed calibration so they gave me a new phone altogether. So I am very pleased with the service I received and think it's completely up to the genius you get when you go in.
