"Apple would never release a phone with seams on the sides"
"Apple would never release a smaller iPad"
"Apple would never release a larger iPhone"
"Apple would never release a plastic iPhone"

These are all things that were repeated ad nauseum on this board as if they were fact, yet here we are. Apple most certainly would release a phone like that. It's not anathema to anything Apple stands for and even if it would be a mistake, Apple is not immune from making mistakes, either.

So what? It's a fact that iPads ignore accidental screen presses along the margins. Yes, there is a bezel. They still ignore accidental presses, and this could be useful in an iPhone, where it's only going to be the tall, meaty part of the palm that presses the screen by accident, rather than the discrete fingers that would be more likely to accidentally press the screen on an iPad.

And this is why I sometimes just laugh at those that post such dribble thinking they know everything, but come to pass they don't. I never give total stock to these rumors/guesses that this, and that, and the other thing won't be introduced by Apple.

We also read posts that the fingerprint sensor would never by offered on the iphone 5S as well.

We heard guesses by members on this forum about Apple releasing a wider iPhone 5S.

We heard guesses again that Apple will not have an iPhone 5S, but go directly to the iphone 6 instead.

I wasn't aware the iPad mini detected accidental screen presses; I thought the person I replied to thought the bezel was smaller than it was and was getting confused.

I see that I'm mistaken though and it does indeed detect accidental screen presses. Pretty cool :D

I take back what I said!

Oh geez your gracious reply made me realize I was being too confrontational. Sorry about that. I should relax.

I just wish they would do away with the home button and make it capacitive or just eliminate it all together. Then they could just make the physical size of the phone a little wider and put in a much larger screen.

It would be about the size of the moto x, the moto x crammed their 4.7 in screen into a barely bigger than iPhone body.

This is not the first time Motorola has made an iPhone sized device with a larger screen.

At the very least it proves Apple does not have to give up one handed ease of use and have a larger display.

I didn't say Apple wouldn't release a larger phone, I said Apple wouldn't release something like this mockup, i.e an edge to edge display and where the top and bottom bezels aren't symmetrical. And honestly how much screen real estate do you gain by removing the thin side bezels? That's why I hate most iPhone mockups because they all do the same thing - just make the screen bigger and get rid of bezel.

Where would touch id go?

I'd be interested to see a rendering for a bigger iPhone with the same size app icons, but holding the same number of apps per page. Like, increasing the distance between each app like on an iPad. I think that would look really nice. No need to cram as many apps on one page as possible, especially now that there isn't a really low cap on how many apps you can put in a folder

3.5" is THE perfect screen size. This illustration simply proves that. Apple should think about the people who want to use the phone with one hand only!

Really? So I imagine you are still using an iPhone 3GS?

who said apple would never release a plastic iPhone? the iPhone 3G/3GS was plastic...lol

Apple is not a company that does what other companies are doing. its usually the other way around. Will they release a bigger iPhone? Probably. Will they release something like the note or HTC One max? probably not lol. The market for supersized minitablets/phones are so niche and minimal. Most people want a phone that fits in their pocket.

I for one am happy with the current size. 4.5" is pushing it. based on the mockup, i wouldn't enjoy that larger iPhone.

Remember those mockups for a curved iPhone like the ipod Touch? The iPhone 5 or whatever during the time of the 4S? those mockups turned out to be a bust.

I like the idea of having a bigger screen + thinner edge, but I think there should be an improvement in the OS:
- You can place icons anywhere on the screen (like in android/computer).
- Folders should be 'real' folders. Not 9 icons per page. And it should scroll up-down (like in mac OS/Windows), not left right. And you can create sub folders inside folders.
- Some widgets (or Dashboard apps, as Apple calls them) would be handy (and decorative!)

That would be far too androidy for my liking. One thing that i like about iOS vs Android is the simplicity. Being able to put your icons wherever you want on the screen just invites an unorganized unpleasant looking mess. At least in my opinion :D

I don't care what you like me to do. If you don't get my point then the problem lies on your side. Don't you agree?

Not when your point is ridiculous.

Getting rid of the home button wouldn't increase the width.

That is all I need is a longer iPhone not:eek:. I wish Apple had kept the size the same as the 4s. My iPad and MacBook Air does every thing else I need. Sold my 5 and now waiting to order the 5s.

And who are you to judge this? I bet you didn't even read or understand or both.

Hey guys, I just want to apologize for supermassive. He's my younger brother who lives with me and he has Asperger's something awful. Our parents were both alcoholics and didn't do a very good job raising him, which certainly didn't help his condition at all. My wife and I usually only allow him on the internet for 45 minutes a night after he's done with his homework, but we block most social media sites to keep him from bullying people. Seems he branched out to the websites I frequent. He calls himself "supermassive" because that's what kids used to call him in school. Poor guy got bullied a lot and because of his disorder he didn't take it very well.

Anyway, I'm sorry again. I just ask that you guys please don't respond to any of the random insults he hurls around on here. It only further provokes him and by the time we can finally pry him off the computer, he starts breaking dishes or rearranging stuff in our fridge (Pro-tip: There's a reason we don't put meat products in the same drawer as produce.)

To the OP: Your renderings look great. :)

I think the finger print sensor really shuts down any hope that Apple would remove the home button. That said, I don't think the physical home button is a negative aspect of the phone. I mean, it's basically the button I go when I really really want to escape an app. It's almost as useful as ctrl + alt + del :D

As anyone who has used the touch assist functions on the iPhone knows that on screen buttons aren't always reliable. It's important to have a physical home button that can help you escape in a hurry.

That said, I really do wonder about the 4.7" display. Although, it's been rumoured to be in testing, I am some how in doubt that that will come to fruition. There are simply far too many compromises.

The thinner side bezels of this mock up would not justify the thick top and bottom bezels. That said, I have heard people say the Nexus 4, at 4.7", is too big. I wonder if Apple would do a more incremental upgrade like 4.3" or 4.5" and creep up from there? I suppose that'll just piss off the developers. I'm really not too sure what to make of it.

Anyway, no matter the outcome: TLDR, Next year will be an exciting iPhone year.

Trying to be funny? Go practice some more

If they go big and don't leave me a smaller phone option I'm out, Apple.

Agree! I'd love a 4S with speedier performance.

But where's the bigger battery going to go?

You can't have a significantly bigger screen without upping the battery size. The body needs to be bigger to fit a bigger battery in.

No the body size does not have to be bigger or much bigger. Batteries will improve over time with more talk/data time as they are getting a tad better already. Even the iphone 5s has a slightly larger battery over the iphone 5 in the same form factor. You can still get a nice 4.3 inch or 4.5 inch display iPhone someday in just about the same form factor as the iphone 5S and with an improved battery...

The iPhone 5 included a 5.45 Whr, or 1440 mAh, battery. According to the FCC documents, the iPhone 5S will jump up to 5.96 Whr (or around 1570 mAh),

I'd love to see the same kind of rendering with a 4,5" screen. Seems to be a good compromise IMO

Edit: Or just make the phone a bit wider
