While I'd generally be opposed to a rep system, I like what quetzaal said: Only positivie rep. Just so people wouldn't pile on someone because of disagreements about OS choice, politics, or just because the poster's in a bad mood. Don't like the post? Walk on by. Think it was helpful? It'll let other people know that this person helped out.

However, positive reps could have the same problem, but in reverse. The way it is now, it's so easy to see a poster's prior history and thread starts. IMHO, these are pretty good quality indicators.
