Would’ve been nice, but this will do me a couple of years before I upgrade.
Yeah there’s not much difference btw the 1st Gen and the Series 4 I was in Curry’s over the weekend having a play but I couldn’t tell the difference maybe slightly lil quicker and the display abit bigger but I’m pretty pleased with mine the battery has lasted well from 65% battery from this morning just wacked it on charge as soon as got through the door :D

Went to an Apple store yesterday and they ran a diagnostic and my 3yo series 0 battery passed. They quoted $200 for the repair.

At this point I was willing to pay $79 for a new battery.

Chatted with apple support to ask about the $79 battery offer for out of warranty repairs and they referred me to their supervisor without me asking. Received a scheduled phone callan hour later and they offered to send a one time replacement since they replace batteries for the series 0.

We’ll see what I get in the mail a couple weeks from now...

Whatchu get in the mail?

I took my series 0 to Apple Shop yesterday, unfortunately the battery passed the test, so they wouldn’t replace it.

My battery life is much shorter but may pass the test. I’m tempted to set up mail in service but then I may just get my watch back if it passes.

They said they can do the test remotely.

If you set up service online it doesn’t look they require remote testing but I imagine will get tested once they receive it in the mail so could just get send back if passes.

my 1st gen SS model is still slugging along in every day use. no heavy use but it looks nice. well out of the AC+ already.

curious to know what part would qualify on just getting a new one completely?

to update. my screen popped up last week due to the battery swelling. I called apple and they offered to replace it for free even though I was well out of ac+. 42mm stainless steel case. I mailed it and got back a new one today. same model so no bump in model. YMMV.

Has anyone gone through with a battery replacement for an original watch? Apple said mine didn't need replaced when this thread started, it's now lucky to last until evening so pretty sure it wouldn't pass apple's test now. Surely there must be even less 1st generation left for replacements? I replaced mine with a 6 finally but it might be worth going through the battery replacement process even if it is replaced with an original.

Are you saying even if I pay for the replacement and want to send it to Apple they refuse to accept the order?

I think so, I took it to Apple shop, they ran a test and said battery was still fine so they wouldn't replace battery.
I think Apple support can do test remotely.

Well - that's bad news. I wanted to get a new battery before they are End Of Service which is usually after around 5 years after End Of Sales. In that way I could ensure I could use the watch for 10 years or so. If they do not accept my order even so I am paying that's not really acceptable.

It's because they don't actually replace the battery, so they don't want to let people get a cosmetically better watch for just battery upgrade fee if they don't consider battery to be at point of needing replacemwnt

Ok, ok. But it is Apple who decided that this is their service and support strategy. To me - expecting 5 years of service for a $700 watch is not to much to ask for and if I like to replace the battery after 5 years to make sure I can enjoy the product for another 5 it should be accepted and done.

Just sent my Series 1 SS 42 off for screen pop due to battery swell. Hope I get a series 2 or newer. Just got an email stating replacement is being sent out but not much more detail.

I think if you took it to a store they'd replace with what's available, maybe a 2 or 3. Sending away, there's more chance of a Series 1 in stock. Hope I'm wrong

What did you get back? Would be nice to have an update on the same!

My Gen1 42mm SS screen popped out! After over 4+ calls with Apple and a lot of back and forth! The Service Center took the watch in! Fingers crossed for a $79 battery replacement to be approved!
PS. My battery is swollen for sure!

I ran into problems this week with my 0 watch I sat outside in 20c Sun and noticed after a hour my watch was dead

got home popped into charger but wouldn’t charge, plugged into pc it came on that squiggly thing and took ages to charge up I put it on mains overnight it was charging so slow and come morning it was just dead!

I’m guessing it needs a battery so should should I attempt Sending it in via mail?

I dowant to travel to Birmingham city centre atm with the delta variant doing the rounds

So sending it in is my only option will they just swap it for me I’d love a pristine one again lol 😂
