WTF is up with the "dont steal music" sticker...

dont tell me what to do.....

Wow, nice attitude you've got.

Without people buying music there would be no music industry, and no professional artists or musicians.

The quality of new music would decline dramatically since all those musicians would have to get other jobs and have no time left to put in 100% into their craft.

It follows that that means there'd also be no iPods, no iPhone and no iPads - since the iTunes store and the iPod paved the way for the rest.

But to hell with that, as long as you can get what you want for free - that's the main thing after all.

I got one of these engraved for my wife as a present the night before our wedding. It doesn't get used any more so I think we'll just hang on to it, it means more as a keepsake than an iPod now!

"Yeah it's a total shame that they're replacing potentially hazardous batteries with new devices that are out of warranty. No upside to that at all."

•Uhh, replacing a six or seven year old product long out of warranty with a new/refurbished with a 90 day warranty isn't enough?

"Seriously? The only upside is that Apple is providing you with a new device that won't explode and they are giving you a cleaner newer one with the same capacity."

•I don't get your logic (if there is any besides my lil brothers....'i just want it so give it to me!' We have an assignment for a logic class next Thursday and are supposed to bring in four examples of different types of logic. Just discovered my fourth one I'll call 'my lil bro's' logic.

Replacements for First-Gen iPod Nano Models at Risk of Overheating Now Arriving

That headline makes it sound like the replacements themselves are at risk of over-heating.

A better one would be:

"Replacements Now Arriving for First-Gen iPod Nano Models at Risk of Overheating"

The title of this post can read multiple ways, and what "Replacements for First-Gen iPod Nano Models at Risk of Overheating Now Arriving" sounds like is that the replacements which are at risk of overheating are now arriving.

Not at all. People steal music and they shouldn't.

Imagine some musician finds out that people use iPods to steal music. And he tries to take Apple to court for building iPods that people use to steal music. So Apple goes to court, and shows the judge a brand new iPod with a sticker "don't steal music"! Case closed.

Perhaps they're asking instead of telling you not to steal music.
Well I hate to be a grammar Nazi here, but interrogative statements need a question mark at the end. Also, being more polite would help if they want us to interpret it as a request.

"Will you please not steal music?"

Right now it is written as a command, as blacktape242 interpreted it.

I think that "dont steal music" thing stopped after iTunes were allowed to drop DRM.

As for the replacements, hope they're not the old cheap knock-offs you could buy in China... :)

Chances?

Any tips on how I could get Apple to send me a white one instead of the black one I'll be sending in when the box arrives? Plan on writing a letter obviously but jut wanted to see if anyone had other tips, or if they've maybe received a different colour to the one they had.

Ta!

From what my marketing and logistics roommate once told me, Apple likes to under promise and over deliver. Haven't had to get anything repaired through Apple to confirm their process or procedure, but he says that Apple is strives to beat its own estimates on repairs and such and hence uses overnight shipping when it comes to repairs.

Despite sending mine Monday and getting confirmation about receiving my nano on Tuesday, nothing on the Apple repair status page about mine shipping or even being approved! Still says "November 15, 2011: Product replacement pending." I really hope they don't disqualify my iPod just because I removed a battery that was swollen and dangerous. Should've taken pictures... :(

Also, good to see we're getting nice and shiny refurbs. The amount of entitlement in the thread with the original story about the nanos was ridiculous and aggravating. How Apple does battery replacements has been pretty well documented for a while: You get a refurb that is nicely polished and almost good as new. They reuse the parts that they can and replace the ones they can't and just stick them in new cases. Simple.

You noticed that too. Somebody didn't read the story.

Odd. I'm in Canada, and happen to still have my 1st Gen Nano, and I checked my serial# on the Apple site, when I first heard about the replacement program, and it said I was not eligible. Just checked again, and now it appears I am eligible.

Who's to say these won't overheat in 5 years?

Oh please.. the good artist will always make money from concerts and tours. Its only a question how greedy you want to be. Art should be and art, not a business for some big companies, number of agents.

Did you know that for major label artists, from all 0.99$ sales Apple collects 34 cents and the label keeps 55 cents. 10 cents go to the artist. 10 cents!
go figure..

Are you serious?

"Will you please not steal music?" Really?

That's hilarious.

Either way the thieves will still steal, but asking politely just sounds ridiculous. :D

Ironically, an authoritarian rule/command/instruction like that is the polar opposite of what Steve Jobs believed in.

No exact way to tell they won't, but they replaced the batteries with not only newer ones, but different kinds so they don't explode or overheat. Your post was pretttttty ignorant. Doesn't look like you thought before you spoke,
