I actually like that form factor...does anyone think Apple would sell me one? How would I go about doing it?

Looks good! Wouldn't surprise me if Apple also had some leftover stock.

There's no leftover stock. Once they stop selling a model they mark it down for a bit and clear it out. If after a month or so of that they were are any still left they are turned into service stock.

The reason they can do this and why it takes up to 6 weeks is that some states in the US require that they still be able to service all computers etc for up to 7 years even at customer cost. So Apple has had to keep a limited supply of parts etc to make such units for legal reasons.

Any tips on how I could get Apple to send me a white one instead of the black one I'll be sending in when the box arrives?

You can't. You will get exactly what you sent in. no exceptions.

anyone else find the "dont steal music" weird?

Nope. Thats what they used to put in the packaging… My 1G(B) Shuffle has a card with that on it. On the opposite side of the card it says "FREE MUSIC" and shows the iTunes Store's free single of the week feature.

I have 2 Nano's that I bought from the thrift store… Now I will be able to get SCRATCHLESS ones!

My serial number on mine isn't covered by the replacement program. I wonder if I can go to an Apple Store and get one?

This might be out of line and a mistake and I am sorry if it is and will remove the post if necessary, but is anyone willing to sell there replacement iPod Nano 2 Gen? I always liked the design and was wondering if someone did not want their replacement. If you are interested could you please PM me? Thanks and sorry if the post was out of line and I will delete it if it is.

It's worth a shot, possibly they might.

Currently wading through Congress is a bill that will have deeper implications for "facilitators" of piracy, such as YouTube, Facebook and others. Basically any device or website that is a conduit for piracy may be held liable, depending on how you interpret the bill.

If you look at the history of such bills at the start of every campaign season there is such a bill debated. All they are doing is putting down markers for campaign contributions.:)

WTF is up with the "dont steal music" sticker...

dont tell me what to do.....

It's fascinating that, rather than objecting to being told something you already know and understand, you instead object to the notion that you can't do whatever the hell you like.

Well I hate to be a grammar Nazi here, but interrogative statements need a question mark at the end. Also, being more polite would help if they want us to interpret it as a request.

"Will you please not steal music?"

Right now it is written as a command, as blacktape242 interpreted it.

Thank you! Well said. It *is* written as a command. Personally, I think it's a joke. If someone's illegally obtaining music, a freaking sticker is not going to deter them or make them change their habit. Apply only puts that on there to cover their ***.

Since these are effectively the same thing as Genius Bar replacement, the correct term is "remanufactured" as refurbished means more of the original is kept. With these, everything the user touches and interacts with plus the battery and [sometimes] the storage are replaced.

Nothing wrong with that. I, too, feel it's not Apple's business - or anyone else, for that matter - to tell me what to do. I'm an adult, I know what's right and what is wrong. The reminder is more of a command, and that in itself is annoying. Perhaps if it were written in a different tone it would be less intrusive. There's many of us who don't appreciate being told what to do.

thats awesome!
1. my iPod doesnt hold a charge
2. this iPod i think was the most aesthetically pleasing.

it will be awesome to rock a 6 year old iPod that many will not have seen.

now that is being different =D

Woo! I'm so happy that it's a first generation nano. I can't wait to receive a completely scratch free version.

Sending mine out tomorrow.

Sign me up as one who still hasn't gotten a box yet. Filled out the form on Saturday and starting to get a little nervous about it.

Yeah it's a total shame that they're replacing potentially hazardous batteries with new devices that are out of warranty. No upside to that at all.

Seriously? The only upside is that Apple is providing you with a new device that won't explode and they are giving you a cleaner newer one with the same capacity.

Entitlement..

What a twisted logic, so if you total a 2005 car then are you entitled to a 2010-2011 one from your insurance?

Entitlement indeed

I am disappointed. However I intend to let all the chumps send in their units and I'll wait until the last possible minute to send mine in. If their stock of refurbs still hasn't run out, WTF are they doing with so much old hardware?

I'd really like to get one of these, I'm hoping I can find a used nano and get it replaced. That design is still gorgeous and I'd love to own one.

Imagine some musician finds out that people use iPods to steal music. And he tries to take Apple to court for building iPods that people use to steal music. So Apple goes to court, and shows the judge a brand new iPod with a sticker "don't steal music"! Case closed.

People use iPods to play music, not steal it. The court case wouldn't even get started. Lawyers always win, when will Americans see that?

Well THEN!!!!!

Please start re-production of iPod Nano 5G model!!!!

In retrospect the 5G was the apex of the iPod line to date.

And if you put in 32GB it would REALLY take off!!!!

Is that asking too much? :D
