Im far more likely to lose them than I am to damage them. AC+ should cover that but its Apple so.. you know.. complete greed.

Insurance is Stoopid!

I just ask my mom to buy be another one if it brakes.

My grandson is like that. Guess what, he hasn't got a Christmas or birthday present in three years. I think somewhere hidden in the deeper depths of his brain he knows which behaviour change is required to get him back on mine and my wife's present list.

So basically, it's $60 to replace with AppleCare+. $29 for AppleCare+ up front, and another $29 if you need a replacement.

What I'm reading is that it's basically $90 to replace with AppleCare+. $29 for AppleCare+ up front, and another $58 ($29 for left, and $29 for right AirPods). I don't see anywhere where Apple treats both AirPods as 1 $29 fee.

I’ve already purchased my AirPod pro and they’re due to arrive tomorrow and I haven’t AC+.
How do I add AC+ to them?

Is there some way to look up the left Airpods battery capacity like you can do with iOS devices / MacBooks? Or is it only shown with some exclusive internal Apple diagnostic software?
Don't know. But if it's anything like my gen 1 Airpods, you'll be easily able to tell when they dropped below 80% simply by how long they last ...

So doesn’t it seem like the direct here is to buy AppleCare+ and then replace the pair before the two year period is over to increase the longevity of your purchase? Compared with buying the future 2021 AirPod Pro model for $250+, it seems like spending $29 up front plus another $29 makes a bit more sense.

Well the difference is that you will be paying an extra $58 to renew your old model instead of using it to get the latest model with technological advances. And before you say "The new AirPod Pros have everything I need", tell that to all the customers who said that when they bought an iPhone X, iPad Pro 9.7, Apple Watch Series 3. Low and behold everyone salivates for the newest models (iPhone 11 Pro, 11" iPad Pro, Apple Watch 5).

Comparing the AirPod Pros to the regular AirPods is slightly apples to oranges due to the price difference, and I realize that they didn't have AppleCare+ for headphones a few years ago...but imagine buying the original AirPods in 2017 for $160 and adding $30 for AppleCare and paying $30 later as the service fee...is it better to have spent $60 for "brand new Gen 1s" or is it better to use that money towards the AirPods 3 at $160? Again, I realize there is no AirPod 3 at $160 and only an AirPod Pro at $250, but I'm trying to paint an example using similar price points.

Ah, dip, it just occurred to me I forgot to buy Applecare+ on the Airpods I bought back in August, and I missed the 60-day window by about a week.

Ah well.

Take it to the Apple Store anyway and explain your case (nicely). I was able to return my PowerBeats Pro that I bought a month and a half ago because I explained to them that since then the PowerBeats not only got a price drop, but the AirPods Pro were just announced yesterday. It took a manager override but they did accept the return (and it also helped that I basically explained they were getting their money back anyway since I was going to buy the AirPod Pro).

I called Apple Support and was told that all three pieces will be considered one unit if they are all damaged. He gave me the example that if all three had water damage, all three would be replaced for $29.

If water damage is covered and all pieces as considered as one, Apple can already prepare for all the people dropping their Airpods and the charging case in a glass of water overnight (they surely will be dead after that) after two years to get a replacement set with perfect new battery for $58 total ... Or do I miss something here? Even with a new improved model out by then, this would be a very good deal.

According to the AppleCare Plan:

Apple will not provide Hardware Services or ADH Services in the following circumstances:
(d) to repair damage caused by reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct, or any use of the Covered Equipment in a manner not normal or intended by Apple;

and

Apple may cancel this Plan for fraud or material misrepresentation

So, if the incidents of this happen frequently in October 2021, Apple will state your claim is fraud, and you'll have to accept nothing, or fight them in court.

I really wish they would have had something like this for the first gen. Mine crapped out right before the two year mark and it was the batteries...

Personally, I surely won't do that and I really hope that other people stay honest, too – what I always loved about Apple's great customer service it that I can rely on it in case I really need it. I don't want to have that changed to the worse by people with ridiculous demands when it comes to exchange for their devices (which surely became a lot more common judging by some expectations on this board).

The issue for me is that I can’t keep paying $150-$250 every two years for wireless headphones. So if by paying $250 plus an extra $29+$29 for AppleCare+ I can get about 4 years from a pair of AirPods Pro, I can live with that cost over a 4 year period versus replacing them with the latest and greatest every 2 years.

I say all of this as the owner of AirPods Gen 1, with battery life and sound quality that’s inconsistent between right and left AirPods. I like the design of the AirPods Pro but I can’t stomach paying $250 at the moment. If I could, however, I would pay the extra $58 to extend the life of them by an extra two years or so.

I see your point, but knowing what we know now, if Apple gave you the option of paying $60 to cover the cost of a retroactive AppleCare+ where they will give you brand new first gen AirPods, would you take that offer for the next two years rather than buying the new AirPods Pro?

Is this a serious post? My first GEN AirPods (which I purchased in December 2016) are still going strong without issue. When has ever Apple manufactured a product that where the batteries ‘don’t last’? I’d say that’s a bit exaggerative, being I’ve never had a product, especially the AirPods where I was unhappy with the battery life.

Perhaps you don't use them often? My 1st gens are about 2 and half years old and the battery only lasts around 40mins on a telephone call now. It's supposed to be at least 2 hours. So that's well over 50 percent degradation in 30 months.

They do. You can buy AC+ for any AirPods or Beats headphones.
