Only ship products when it is ready. We don't like products catching flames. But, also do not talk about product when it is not ready to ship. This has been Tim Cook's Apple lately, including constant talk about privacy and raising prices. Apple needs to get his mojo back as Austin Powers would say.

Of course announcing a product that is not ready can be effective in keeping potential customers from buying competitors product. Really underhand tbh.

I was somewhat interested in the AirPower during its announcement as I was looking at charge mats at the time.

So I’d say their strategy was effective on me as I don’t have a wireless charging mat yet today

What’s all this fuss about a wireless charger?
Because it has a little logo of an apple on it.
And apparently it has 3 coils. Wow.
My stand vertical fast qi-charger has 7.

I don’t understand why people - mainly tech YouTubers - have been getting so worked up about AirPower. If it’s not been ready, it’s not been ready, just be patient not as if you can’t charge your phone a million other ways. Although I guess exploding AirPowers would have been good for their viewing figures.
Who cares about YouTubers?
Narcissistic-think they know it all- self centric wannabes.

Other companies would have called it "wireless charger". By using idiotic names ("liquid retina display" anyone?) Apple is trying to fool consumers into thinking that their products are somehow special.

It’s called tactful marketing, it’s rudimentary 101. Does the consumer really care about with the marketing stands for? Likely not. But does that mean that Apple should Not try to be unique with naming certain things the way they see fit? Your opinion on their marketing doesn’t seem to detract from the overall success of their products.

Thanks but no thanks, Apple. I’m content with my Anker wireless charging stand I purchased for $25.

I wonder when they will announce the price? I never wanted this when I only had a phone and iPad, but now that I have included airpods and apple s4 watch to my collection, I am rethinking it. It will probably still be decided by the price.

This could be one of those products where they don’t announce the price, they just announce the product along side with the price at the time (Being it’s an accessory and not a core product). It could be conjoined with a keynote, or with Apple, they are so random, they might launch at any time in 2019 without notice.

Will they wait for an event to announce this, or will it be a silent addition to the web site?

This requires it's own event. Cook spending an hour with performance charts and a 15 minute video with Jony explaining how it is made by sharks with lasers and a plastic that they dip into 25 times. Later on when they ship pads that wobble it will be considered normal and part of the absolutely cutting edge manufacturing process. You never know they might be able to make the unit intentionally unstable and offset the camera wobble.

introducing the Airpower Tetris. When odd irregular shapes fit together magically.

Case in point. I said this in an earlier post:

Agreed. But a lot of people will buy cheap no matter what. If they can buy a cheap wireless charger for $25 (exchange says that's a little under 20 pounds) then that will be how a lot of people will go, even if the thing quits working in a few months.

I think for sales a $150 or higher price will limit sales severely. If it costs more than buying 2 or 3 individual chargers then people will go for the cheaper option most of the time.

The product may be worth 150 plus as far as R&D and quality but it's too expensive for an auxiliary device that doesn't do anything visible. Charging 3 items placed anywhere on the mat is impressive, if you realize the difficulty in doing it.If you don't care, it's money you can spend on something else.

Doesn't work with my iPhone 7+

Won't work with any phone that doesn't use built in wireless charging from any company no matter who made the phone. There are kits to make iPhone 7's (and probably any other brand of phone) charge wirelessly, but you have to use a special case to do it.

If their margins are not going up (in fact - going down slightly), how is it exactly that Tim Cook's apple is raising prices?

Contrary to many posts in this thread, I don’t think that “it’s too late” to sell this 3-way charging pad. Apple sells millions of phones per quarter and a few million may not have their charging pads yet.

I don’t own a wireless charging device. My apple watch uses the link band which is basically a no-go for a flat pad of any kind.

No comment on the price.

First off, the report that the problems have been fixed and the unit is in production is still just a rumor, even if the sources are fairly reputable, which I don't know if they are or not. Apple may not be ready to release the item and it may still never get released. We don't know.

Second, we don't know the price. I have heard $125 or higher but we are back to rumors and speculation.

Third, we don't know how well it works. They may not really have the problems fixed, or something new may show up after the release-if there is one.

Fourth, it might do more than what Apple announced a year and a half ago. I don't know what that 'more' would be, but if we are going to do wild speculative guessing on the first 3 items why not guess on all of them.

Lastly, and this one isn't a guess, some people won't be happy if the news about imminent release is true because of something. Cost, incompatibility, it works with Apple only, it does work with other brands, the color(s) are wrong, the power cord is short, the power cord is too long, the power cord is too bulky, it takes too long to charge, it charges quickly but battery life quickly deteriorates.....The list of why some people won't like it IF it is about to be released is probably a lot longer than what I put in here off the top of my head.

Considering that the only wireless technology that exists has, and still does, use the same basic principles that were around over a century ago then anything that is developed that can charge a device anywhere in a room is likely to be A) Expensive and B) The target of the same fear mongering that cell phones already face about the word 'radiation'. It also isn't likely to be cheap. You may be ready but I doubt your wallet and bank account would be.

Edit for a link:
There’s a wireless “technology” that has been around billions of years that can charge a device millions of miles away and cause cancer.

Yes, and every time I hear people protesting microwave towers or telling me my 1/4 watt phone broadcast is giving me cancer I try to point it out that the largest single source of radiation affecting life on earth is the sun. And without it we die. It doesn't matter. It's giving me cancer as far as they are concerned and there is no logical argument you can make that will convince them otherwise. Their cousin/brother/parent used cell phones and developed cancer. See? phones cause cancer. They may also have smoked or worked around other carcinogenics or just drew the unlucky DNA wildcard but no, its the tv or the microwave or the cell phone.
