Kubrick got there in 1968. So it predates Apple as well.

ST:TOS used them predating Kubrick; I'm sure other shows or movies did even before that. ST:NG was late to the game.

I do remember in the early 2000’s some tablets started to appear, but their specs were very poor to decently run Windows.

Prior to that was the Newton, which was pretty decent for its time.

The best next thing were the Compaq (and later HP) iPaq Pocket PCs, running and ARM version of Windows Mobile. I remember paying $800.00 for one of those, plus the extended battery pack, plus a Pharos GPS, plus a $400 CF Card with a whooping 1 MB of storage (I can’t forgive myself for that! I think I still have it somewhere…).

I remember those. I had a Jornada (SP?). Still do somewhere.

I had one of the first consumer models of a portable computer. Back then they looked like this:

Can't imagine why people would be sceptical....

(Actually it was a great machine but was quickly suprassed by the Mac+ IMO, which was nearly as transportable.)
Osborne computer running CPM by any chance?

At the moment, I’m not really interested in foldable iPhones. Apple needs to get it right.

For the upcoming years, Apple just needs to focus on using higher-end materials such as high-grade titanium, iron, sapphire glass. This is what will appeal the consumers the most.

Folding MacBook would be awesome. Imagine how convenient it will become to travel with it.
It's good to know that Apple won't rush a foldable product to market until they feel they've perfected it. Obviously, it will be more expensive than their current offerings...but will still sell like hotcakes.

typing on this will make the 2016-2018 keyboard look great.

apple is starting to just create useless junk like in the 90s.
yep. they seem to be enamored with being ABLE to do something, without questioning whether they SHOULD do it (e.g. FaceID)

+5 for Jurassic Park reference.

Yeah, who would want to type on a hard surface. I remember that projector keyboard thing, and some people loved it to death, and most went 'Meh...'.

I had a 'tough keyboard' to type on, the original IBM PC keyboard, and loved it. Typing on a screen? As a main keyboard? Seriously? Are they nuts? Even using a mouse to drive it all seems a recipe for 'What were they thinking' year end rotten tomato style YouTube videos. Anyone remember the 3Com Audrey? See...

"Apple Exploring 20-Inch All-Screen Foldable MacBook". I wonder when they started exploring. 5 years ago? This seems to be the Apple modus operandi these days. And why would they be doing it anyways? Until Samsung releases suitable panel what exactly can Apple do about it?

I'm sure Apple R&D explores many possibilities, but this doesn't sound like something which would actually become a product. If anything, it would be a foldable iPad, not a Mac.
I agree this looks more like an iPad. You need a keyboard of some sort, and this device doesn't have one pictured. Some portion of the screen could be assigned as a keyboard but for me I don't find touch screens reliable as keyboards. This isn't brand or device specific: Surface, iPad, Samsung phone, iPhone, screen protector or no screen protector, doesn't really matter which. I have a high 'press e-screen keyboard button but the letter does not show up' from all of them.

Reminds me of a certain "analyst" and his persistant predictions over an Apple branded television. At least he finally gave up on his wild-goose chase. ....And that was far more probable.
