There's still a lot of people that actually believe the notch and touch bar are a good idea.
Not me. Notch is as I have three windows laptops with fat ugly top bezels to support the webcam.

Touch Bar is what made me start hating apple laptops.

Touchscreen is great for portability and drawing/writing, but the keyboard is still the best for input, especially coding or using shortcuts.

Tactile interfaces are still superior I think to flat glass, unless you really need to save space like on a phone.

I really don’t understand this obsession lately with foldable products.
I'm hoping for holographic displays, imagine being able to carry a little coin that can produce a 100% opaque screen just as good as any monitor. Then all you need is a keyboard that would have the storage, ports, etc. Yeah its years/decades away

This all-screen concept is where I always imagined Touch Bar was eventually, and intentionally, heading. Baby-stepping a massive user base into an eventual all-screen MBP, where the base of the MBP was all glass, no physical buttons (an iPad). But people freaked OUT about TB and the rest is history. 🙃

I just want a 16" iPad Pro with limited support for macOS apps. I do most of my work on my Mac Studio, but would love to have an iPad that could run a few Mac apps when I'm on the go and Blender/ZBrush for Apple Pencil use.

My guess is if this folding MBP did exist, it would have some sort of Smart Keyboard accessory that could magnetically attach to the lower display. Apple has had prototypes and patents for something like this for ages, but I kinda doubt it would ever see the light of day.

Instead of folding, focus on liquid state transform into solid state with crystals. Thats where it is at. Send me an DM for a job offer.

Apple has reportedly kicked off the development of a 20-inch display, possibly for a future MacBook Pro model, according to a report today by The Elec, citing industry sources.

Per the report, the 20-inch device will feature a 20.25-inch OLED display made by an unknown South Korean component supplier. With a 20.25-inch display unfolded, the device would feature a 15.3-inch screen when folded, larger than the current largest iPad Pro but smaller than the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The report claims that Apple is eyeing a mainstream commercial launch of its foldable device in 2026 or 2027, but is cautious that Apple is unlikely to do so until it transitions the iPad and Mac to OLED displays. Currently, only the high-end iPhone and Apple Watch models have OLED displays while other Apple products have LCD panels.

In an additional tidbit of the report, The Elec claims that Apple is looking to replace the iPad mini with a foldable device that measures 10 inches and notes a foldable iPhone is "unlikely," despite reports that Apple is working on one.

According to today's report, Apple plans to launch 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad models with OLED displays in 2024, lining up with previous reports and rumors. The report also cites 2025 as the year Apple plans to debut a MacBook Pro with an OLED display.

Why not make an iPad that can dock to a display-less MBP. When docked, the MBP runs MacOS on the iPad …

This is pretty speculative. I've heard it will be on the regular MacBook, which will be redesigned to resemble the original "toilet seat" iBook with Bondi Blue and tangerine colors.

Nothing beats a great physical keyboard

On that note, I was playing with a 2008 MacBook Pro the other day that a relative gave to me.

Man I love those keyboards. Such a great feel, bounce, rebound to it -- so tactically engaging.

I miss that.
The current keyboards are ok -- but they've lost a little something

Software/virtual keyboards by their nature don’t have the speed, response and low latency of a mechanical keyboard. It’s even worse when batteries go low or when you enable the sound effects and force feedback typing effect. Lagging like mad.

Virtual keyboards will always be slower to use than a Bluetooth connected keyboard and much slower than a USB wired keyboard.

So many people especially young people now buying mechanical keyboards. Every macrumors, pc gaming and Reddit thread I see of computer set ups always showing mechanical keyboards from Keychron and other Hong Kong companies. These latest gen mechanicals are very pleasing to use, very customisable and quiet.

They even reject the chiclet Apple keyboards and prefer these Hong Kong brands. I even saw people using Apple ADB beige keyboards with a USB adapter.

I’m late to this party, but THIS is going to be Apple’s sneaky way of giving people what they’ve been asking for - a TOUCHSCREEN MAC. And since the max can now run iOS apps, essentially what you have here is a Mac / iPad in one. A true combined experience.

This is exactly what so many people have wanted to see Apple do, so I’m surprised at the negative response. I’m sure the haptic feedback on the keyboard will be amazing.

I think this has the potential to be an extremely interesting device that bridges the two worlds. I guess we’ll finally find out what people prefer when given the choice.
